DreamHack Winter with $35,400

The DreamHack organizers have divulged information about their biannual tournament, proclaiming $35,400 for the winter edition.

DreamHack Winter 2010 will take place at Elmia, in Jönköping, from 25-28 November, with 32 teams involved in the Counter-Strike competition.

A staggering prize purse of $35,400 has been announced for the tournament, including a gift card provided by the car auction company KVD worthy $14,100 which will be handed out to the first-place finishers.

The tournament will see eight groups of four teams, where top two advance to the playoffs. mTw, who won DreamHack Summer 2010 after beating H2k in the final, have been given direct access to the main tournament.

Whichever team manages to seal first place at DreamHack Skellefteå will receive a wild card to the main tournament, while the organizers will distribute more wild cards to several professional teams.

As usual, international and online qualifiers will be held throughout the world, as well as the BYOC tournament on site.

Just like DreamHack Summer 2010, the grand final will take place in the DreamArena Extreme which is able to house over 1,000 spectators.

DreamHack Winter 2010 prize distribution:

1. $14,100 + gift card worthy $14,100
2. $4,250
3. $2,800

You kids do realise that a $14,000 voucher for a car between 5 isn't that much money. roF. If they want to benefit they need to spend twice what they are receiving, unless they want to split a car 5 ways.

losers are losers. Go get a job if you want everyone to get a fair ammount of cash for playing a fucking game. Would be more fun to watch if everything went to the winning team instead.

If the organization reduces the 1st prize, and increase the 2nd prize DH should become more competitive.

That doesn't really make any sense, as it is now it will work as a motivation boost to win it all. I really like the idea of a big first prize and alot lesser second, third place prizes, i think it will make the motivation to win the tournament higher and thus more competitive.

In my opinion its not fair the difference between the 1st and 2nd prize. I think 2nd prize should be 1/2 of 1st prize, for example. The motivation should be higher (fair imo). It is not fair in my opinion, the prize difference between the winning team and a team that took second place and fought, probably as much as they took first.
