EG replace gfn with dboorN

Evil Geniuses have announced the retirement of Ediz "goodfornothing" Basol, while at the same time introducing Derek "dboorN" Boorn as his replacement.

Following Matt "Warden" Dickens' retirement call in November last year, Ediz "goodfornothing" Basol made the transition from Turmoil to Evil Geniuses in order to complete the squad.

Together with the team, Basol managed two straight ESEA LAN final wins and conquering fnatic to win MSI BEAT IT in China earlier this month. Basol also made several international appearances while donning the colors if Evil Geniuses. His spell has however now come to an end, as his retirement was today announced.

dboorN becomes an Evil Genius

To suffice for the loss of Basol, Evil Geniuses have summoned former compLexity member Derek "dboorN" Boorn, with whom they will attend World Cyber Games 2010 in Los Angeles by the end of this month.

"Derek is a player we've been eyeing for quite some time and have just recently had the opportunity of pursuing. We were very sad to see Ediz go, as he was an incredible player, teammate, and person.

But with his decision to retire, we're excited to welcome Derek's talent, personality, and passion, and give him the opportunity to be embraced by his new teammates. We're sure the team's chemistry and ability will be empowered by his presence", Alex Garfield told the team's website.

Evil Geniuses now have:

United States Danny "fRod" Montaner
United States Tyler "
Storm" Wood
United States Jordan "
n0thing" Gilbert
Finland Tomi "
lurppis" Kovanen
United States Derek "
dboorN" Boorn

Due to the World Cyber Games' country restrictions, Evil Geniuses will be forced to employ Travis "tuBBy" Bechtol instead of their captain, Tomi "lurppis" Kovanen, for the event in Los Angeles. The team has furthermore been grouped together with Immunity, Lions and FACE2FACE.

ROFL, you got no clue about CS do you? stats just shows who kills the most, but there's so many more factors you have to calculate before you can say who's the worst player, if that's even possible.

You are too naive. Stats show exactly players performances. I underestand that maybe IGL performance might suffer because he has to think about strats but gfn was no igl. gfn was the reason why they were able to take 1 map against a top team and then loose the other two maps. Except for msi beat it ofcourse. He did really good there. But like i said one good tournament doesn´t excuse his failure before.

you're narrow minded for believe stats mean nothing when most people favor the players who frag the most... stats mean everything. if you have the least kills overall its an absolute negative whether or not your 3 frags were decent

didn't say it means nothing, but there's a lot more roles to fill than just fragging, i'm sure any player in a top team will join me on this.

stats aren't the only thing that matter, you're right. 20 eco kills are not as important as 15 gun round kills, but when you're on the bottom of the scoreboard 90% of the time something is wrong. Gfn is good and a good strat caller, but I think EG needed another fragger rather than another caller.

that might be true that they needed another kind of player, but f.x. i'm confident saying that if they changed a player like Storm who isn't the madfragger they'd lose a lot.

people "retire" all the time and come back playing for other teams. warden has played like 5 esea pugs since he retired and nothing has even remotely shown that he has or will ever think about playing competitively again. warden didn't get cut.

There is not really much point in restarting again with another team which anyways would have very very slim chances of beating EG. Better to retire.

Matt made the decision HIMSELF to leave gaming, and he was not forced out by anyone. I talked to him ~week before their trip to China @ the ESEA LAN finals. Even there he was saying that China would most likely be his last event. He was not forced out, he simply moved on in life. The same with GFN, as you get older you have to support yourself with a job and an income, gaming does not give you enough income to survive solely on, especially in the US.

well now i can finally say EG has a very good chance of winning tourneys that include the big boys. im surprised they didnt pick up tubby however.. feels kinda lame that they would use him as a 6th for WCG 2 tourneys in a row, but not even give him the chance at the starting line up when a slot opens up.

EG just beat fnatic (arguably the best team in the world next to Navi) in a bo3 to win the MSI Beat IT finals. Now, they're even better with dboorN. There's nothing to laugh about. You're either incredibly stupid or incredibly arrogant if you believe this team doesn't have the potential to be the best. Probably both.

Hero is probably one of the best players in the US but he "retired" or quit playing for a while. Irukandji is a versatile player but his specialty seems to be calling strats. dboorN is probably the best fragger in the US next to n0thing.

dboorN is a better role player than hero, and is a slightly better rifler. plus hero has way too many life obligations to be as dedicated as EG wants their players to be, mainly his full-time high paying job. irukandji doesnt fit with EG personality wise. hes incredibly knowledgable and intelligent in-game, and his aim is among the best in the US. hes more lighthearted about the game, while everyone on EG is extremely dedicated and serious. not saying he fools around, but their would be an uneven level of focus with him on the team. dboorN was always the most commited player on coL. the rest of their players started losing their drive as the years progressed. i will say that i dont know how well dboorN will fit style-wise with EG. he's a great player, but i think his style fit his previous coL lineup perfectly, and the 2 teams have very different approaches to the game. i definitely think lurppis can blend him into the team properly, and if he's successful, expect the n0thing/dboorN combo to be something that goes down in cs history ;). gl EG~

My point was that frod is EG; f0rest is fnatic. They are that important to the team and fros is also very good with rifles aswell. Dosen´t really matter what weapon a player would use to make the frags.

Just about every one of the players you listed are worse than dboorn, the only exception MIGHT be dRew if EG needed a strat caller, which they don't. Even if they were better (which they aren't) I doubt they'd build chemistry with the team like dboorN will, most of the people you listed are people the players on EG dislike/probably wouldn't get along with. When/if lurppis retires I'm pretty sure EG will pick up drew to replace him.

Might be exactly what they need leading up to a major event - fnatic and Alternate both did exceptionally very soon after making roster changes last year, fnatic winning the IEM just after picking up GuX and GTR ring a bell?

no, I think gfn is much important in EG.Since gfn join EG, their strategy is much stronger. And before that they always forgot what they should do in the game, seems like they were not concentrate on the game.I think gfn brought in some strong strategy and found out the way against EU teams.

everyone says dboorn > x dboorn > y yeah ok everybody knows that he is a top notch NA player and he was the pillar(along with drew)for team complexity the past year...But give some creadit to gfn..This turkish guy came from turmoil to fill the steps of warden and he helped EG to reach the next level..WHat i mean is that before gfn EG wasnt that bad but not that good either and except for some NA and international results they didnt achieve anything in particular..but with gfn they've beat top5 teams, not only once and if they couldnt they challenged them to 16-14 scores, and won some major tours. He actually made EG what it is today..So good luck ediz and welcome dboorn

Saying one player is better then the other is pointless. Each person has a position to play, lurpiss' job is to call strats. So it doesn't matter if he's a mad fragger, same with gfn. His position was to support other players and hold his part of the map. The only people whose specific job is to get kills are fRoD and n0thing. The addition of another fragger in the form of dboorN is definitely a good move. EG FTW!

well that destroys their chances at WCG i think, however on long term that will improve them i believe, at least in-game.

dboorN answered a few questions about his recent move to EG for those that are interested. He talks about his role within the team along with his thoughts WCG Grand Finals and IEM America. myeg.net/article/article_detail.php?arti..
