CSPromod 1.05 to come in January

The CSPromod developing team have announced that the upcoming 1.05 version of the mod will be released on 31 January.

The new version will come out exactly one year after Beta 1.04, which was better received by the community than previous releases.

"The thing with this release date is, if we're done before the release date, we'll release the beta earlier and announce it on the website," a CSP developing team statement read.

"If we find ourselves with the beta finished and polished by the 15th, we'll just tell you all about it and release it as soon as the files are up on our servers."

Below you can find the last video posted by the developing team on the Beta 1.05 release. Stay tuned to HLTV.org for more info about CSPromod.

it's been said ever since (or even before) the 1.04 release that 1.05 is going to be the MAJOR one. so hopefully they're getting close to making it an enjoyable game.

With an proper office and more programmers i think it would more doable. Unfortunately that's impossible, since the CSPromod crew is spread all around the world. Being the crew voluntary, having real jobs, family's... makes us think that is quite impossible to finish it, but, noone has done this before, why not give them at least some sort of support instead of hating them. At least someone is trying to maintain the essence of the game we like alive and actual.

I agree that there is a lot of unnecessary hate towards the developers (including from myself) - it doesn't really hurt anyone that they are making this game. I personally just don't think we need it, to keep this game alive but that is a whole nother discussion.

The fact that they are building the code from scratch will allow them to dynamically update the game as and when new gameplay requirements or bugs show up. It will also help the tournaments if they want some custom content (gameplay, spec-related etc) introduced in a much easier way. If the CSPromod delivers what they are promising right now, it would be a big step forward.

You try to get sponsors to sponsor an old game where they can't successful market their new top of the line products. I'm not saying CS:S is the answer, but the graphics allows the companies to market their high end products a LOT easier.

all you people saying 1.6 wont die are completely ignorant... just looking at how many organisations let their teams go this past year and also the loss of arbalet and other tournaments + decreases in prize money should be enough to signal that 1.6 is dying... if i had my way i would love 1.6 to essentially stay as is... but thats not an option if we want to keep this format of game alive for years to come. So with that said i am willing to make some small changes if need be to get the community more lively again (Source was too much of a disaster to change but i believe this may just have the answer with minimal things we may dislike). So you can either chose to embrace a few minor changes to a classic game or just watch it die.. its really the whole communities choice..

Um, i didnt say it was going to die anytime soon, i was merely saying that its DYING because many people here seem to think that 1.6 is going to live forever, so thanks for backing up my statement. Ill shorten my post to help you out in understanding. 1. Yes the game is dying 2. If we want it to be a game that lasts and stays around for MANY years to come such as real sports like football changes must be made.

Why would "we" accept something new that is far worse than what we have already got? It has nothing to do with brain usage or fear, it has something to do with passion. CS is (by the community) considered to be the best game ever made, so why would we ever want to play a far worse one? I have played this game since 2002 and every single year people have told me that the game was going to be dead soon. Now its 2011 and people are still passionate the game - we don't want Promod and we certainly don't need it.

I have never said that 1.05 is worse than 1.6, but I have tried the earlier versions of Promod, which were a hundred times worse than 1.6. 1.05 hasn't been released, so why would you assume that I was talking about that particurlar version? And please don't tell anyone to shut up - at least if don't want your comments to be deleted, thank you.

Are you serious? In this case it obviously means the general game of Promod, not the 1.05 version which hasn't been released yet. How could anyone think that I was talking about that particular version?! It doesn't make sense. Obviously there are some new things in the 1.05 version but every single one they have put out over the last 4½ years (since the first video came) has been extreme shit - so why would I think this would be any different?

Alex, the Promod mod of COD are really easy to do, the CS:Promod is another thing. They re-invent the Source Engine with patterns of the 1.6, if you aren't a coder and know how the Source Engine works you can't do anything, first they need to understand the engine (done i think), and then start to work with the Source crap :D

I think they got some several problems with the movements of the player (not the models, this is another thing), i don't know how to say it on english haha :p The objectives of the promod are really clear: put the 1.6 on a higher "visual" level without loosing the old gameplay and style. If they can do this, the 1.6 will be more attractive to the hardware companies = more tournaments = more motivation = more money $$$

COD's promod only exists (When the game allows mods) to make it good for pro-gaming adding and removing things. COD's promod they just pick the game and change small things, on CSPromod they started from scratch, they don't have access to CS 1.6 original code, they have to go to CS 1.6 shoot 3 bullets with the ak, register where it hits differing the distance and things, it's really an hard job, too bad that most of the people don't respect them, as they love the as much as us and they are ensuring a future for CS and doing it for free. CSPromod, the main cause of it it's the old graphics, which don't appeal for PC company's with their excellent graphic cards to run a 10 year old engine. CS has several known bugs that will disappear on CSPromod, such as duckjump... CSPromod is implementing good features such as, money/health on scoreboard, shoutcasting area, different visuals 1.3/1.6/HLTV/css, maybe new weapons and were bugging them to give us the 1.5 knife. CSPromod at this state it's pretty much CS:S with some modification, but in the future the objective is to have new skins, sounds... eventually in the future you only will need a source game instead of CS:S.

In my opinion, this is the decisive year for this developers of Promod, if they fail to update the game several times this year, my guess is that it will die in 2012, Valve has something hidden in their "black mesa laboratories" and 1 update by year is letting everyone down... But i belive that this version will be very stable and from now on only small patchs will be required. If Valve accepts CSPromod on Steamworks it will be BIG step for it, making the game avaible on the Steam store and auto patching itself like any Steam game.

Stop being negative nannys, Promod could very well be the future of competitive CS. I've been playing CS for like a hundred years now, and while the concept still remains solid, the maps, guns and the overall looks are freaking OLD. Hell, they were getting old and boring four years ago. Everything's been done to death already. If (big 'if' here) Promod can breathe new life to the concept, possibly with new maps, new tricks or just new aesthetics WHILE still having the 1.6 gameplay (and NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING from CS:S) the bring it on. ASAP. The problem is, the Source engine is trash as far as gameplay goes (and frankly pretty outdated as far as graphics go), and I don't believe it can be modified to become as sharp and responsive as 1.6, but we'll see. Also, nobody cares what you 8-digits think. Shut up.

Think about potential sponsors like processors, graphcards, monitors,..., industries. The equipaments of these industries I mentioned above have already reached a certain point that all these current equipaments are enough to run the game in a performance such that doesnt matter if u upgrade the equipament u'll get the same result with a old one. By making a new version of cs keeping its original style and upgrading its visual purposely to still have a market consumer full of people that needs upgrade their equipament for the game to have more efficiency/performace in it. With ppl buying their products to a certain game they will invest in this game making tournaments, sponsoring teams and its developers.

_IMO_ 1.6 is slowly dying, its a fact. So promod is an excellent way of extending its lifetime. And promod is really starting to go in the right direction, we are now finally starting to see some kind of improvment, some kind of result. But the only downside / bad thing is that most of the ppl sees promod as a big joke because they havent achived anything big yet. Its time too realise thats its ---->_ONLY_<---- a beta, a small piece / bite of what it will become. So if promod fails, cs future fails.

No, a beta is not a small piece. Is more like a "really nasty big piece". Even not an alpha is a small piece. But they do it for free, these guys have jobs, studies, maybe families.. Maybe they can extend the CS 10 years more :D

Promod has already failed in the sense that it has taken them far too long to make. The Source engine is outdated already and the fact that you (and others) believe that better graphics is needed to keep CS alive just seems weird to me. Although some companies might not want to sponsor a tournament with an ugly looking game, the community is what keeps this game alive - and nobody in that very same community cares about graphics. Afaik the first video of Promod came out in 2006 and then the argument was (and still is) that CS is dying - now its 2011 and we have more than 100 LAN tournaments every year.

Less tournaments, less sponsors witch leads to less players. Cs was really big 2003-2006 now it just has gone downhill - Sad but true.

Funny how fnatic broke the record for most winnings in 2009, and Na`Vi in 2010 if it has just gone downhill since 2006... Over 100 LAN events in 365 days seems pretty good to me.

That argument is definitely flawed. You can't conclude that CS isn't dying because 1 team won the biggest cash prize in a single year. Here's a fact: from more than 50 countries participating way back 2006 in WCG, 2010's WCG has less than 30 countries participating. Why? because no one's willing to sponsor a 10 year old game nowadays. Here's another fact for you: unlike 5-6 years ago, today we got around 10x more FPS games in the market with better gfx than CS. In my country, CS is COMPLETELY dead. Not even a single tournament in the past 2 years. People would rather play COD, OP7, CF, SF, and KOS to name a few. Btw, I'm not saying CS is going die anytime soon. CS sure still has its big fanbase. But compared to what it was 5 years ago, you have to be foolish to deny that in its current state, IT IS slowly dying.

Everything is dying, so I wouldn't argue with you there. I agree that in some aspects the game has gone downhill, but we still have tons of LANs a year. The fact that the record for most winnings has been broken two years in a row isn't the greatest argument in the world, but I do think it tells us something.

Less tournaments, less sponsors witch leads to less players. It is Totaly false, just look in esl, everyday day new teams are created and new players registered in CS. This is non sens, from what are u saying less tournaments or less sponsors? Today people saying that CS is like a sport(Electronic Sport), Later it wasn't the same. Today playing in international scene is just more difficult than 2003-2006 and pro teams are maybe more less.

If cs will use 1.6 physics everyone gonna play it (even me !) I mean larger recoil (because in source it's to easy to headshot while spray) And allow ducking while running (making this game dynamic !) and bhopping (but bhopping like it is in 1.6 not in source) It would be great !

Air strafing should also be back to how 1.6 was doing it." cspromod.com/faq Has the “duckhop” feature (the ability to jump slightly by tapping +duck) been included in CSPromod? Yes. However, it is not possible to exploit this feature to mask player movement sounds. get your facts right.

It will require the engine it's made to work on. For now, it still needs CS:S because it runs on the Source engine. As far as i can remember the dev team was making it so they could easily transfer the game to the engine it fits best.

It will require CSS for as long as they are using CSS assets. That means for as long as their maps use CSS textures or models, and for as long as they use CSS gun models and other props, you will need legal access to the CSS .gcf for the mod to work, which means you will need to own CSS on Steam to play it. They do have, however, as a long term goal, ridding the game of any CSS content and replacing it with 100% custom-made assets, which would remove the requirement of CSS, and would then only require you to own legal access to the Source Engine. That means you would need to own any Source game on Steam (HL2, HL2:DM, Ep1, Ep2, Portal, L4D, L4D2, Garry's Mod, TF2, etc.).

Change? There is a reason why every single FPS game out there don't even come close to CS in terms of community. People don't always want change, they want to play the best game out there. To state that people are retarded because they don't want to play a game that is far worse than the one they have been playing since 1999 is... well, retarded. Why turn away from the greatest game ever made? Every sport/game is dying, everything is - but we still have over a hundred LANs with CS every year and a huge community, I think most of us are pretty satisfied. People have been telling us that the game would be dead within a couple of years, since it came out - still going strong.

I must say that i've been playing a lot of CSS and 1.6 mixed up, but a combination between them would make CS perfectly imo. Some people might say that 1.6 already is good, but 1.6 definitly needs a refreshment like better grapics, better looking models and a bit of ragdoll expect for the headshots and nade kills ofc

I truly hope they pull it off to make a "upgraded" version of cs,despite i have a feeling that its ridiclously hard to copy game play from a other ( older ) engine and older specs.the lower specs make 1.6 feel rock solid compared to other newer shooters.kinda like why golden eye was amazing in its day on that particular system and newer versions dont feel the same.

Personally, i would not mind a change, IF the game is better. I have played the 1.04 and it was really bad. It just drained the essence from 1.6. I mean you can see people money in scoreboards, is that really 'promod'? Just release 1.05, the longer you take to release, the more dissapointed we will be.

To be able to see the money on the scoreboard is a good feature, for the team capitan to decide what to do instead of waiting for the team to say_team their money. On 1.05 the money will disappear when you're alive, when you're dead or on freezetime you'll be able to see it. Live: media.cspromod.com/devlog/alba/scoreboar.. Death: media.cspromod.com/devlog/alba/scoreboar.. Classic Scoreboard: media.cspromod.com/devlog/alba/scoreboar.. This is only a small part of the new gui. You can read the hole thing here cspromod.com/community/showthread.php?th..

Yep, I hate ppl like this, too. anyway in this case we don't need to try. (I have been trying source for couple of months when it have been released :)) Just have a look on evolution of Quake and CS. And You have an anwser. CS evolution is a f.disaster. The most important concepts of 1.6 disappeared, source isn't new version but a totally new game and it was stated 6 years ago, I'm not a f.genius. Maybe there is a hope for csp, but if it took 5 years to create what have been created; it is more likely to build the game from the very beginning than still modifying source.

It won't be driving like 1.6 just because of simple reason. cs 1.6 netcode is so ancient and must be changed and it surely will affect gameplay. It's not possible to recreate gameplay with new engine and netcode. 100 ppl and 1000000h maybe would help. Edit It would be billion times easier if guys from valve have tried to recreate it in Source, but they've done f.nothing. I don't have any clue why they have only cared about Half-Life 2.0 and had CS deep in their asses and did't think of "no, players certainly won't buy this game just because it contains Counter-Strike in its name."

CS 1.6 will die, so don't keep saying CS 1.6 4ever because its just playing ignorant, even Neo, I think, sayed that cs will die in two years or so. Just wait and see if CSP its really an improvement of 1.6 then most of the players will change to CSP, better graphics and less bugs. You guys haven't even tried CSP 1.05 so don't say it sucks. stay positive and wish that CSP can be a game that everybody enjoys even players from SOURCE, if that happens cs will have much more competition, and all the teams and players that you fanboys love will not quit cs in the next years.

Weird. For me cs 1.6 dont need better graphics. For me CS 1.6 is amazing. Cs 1.6 will die if we stop playing. Promod in 1.04 version was a crap. Footbal has centuries of history and it didnt stopped. Promod can be a solution for a group of fucking bad CS players. For me, bad graaphics aren´'t a disavantage, but a important vantage, because Cs is a game that you can play in the weakest machines. Cs is a cheap game that only requires internet and a normal PC

The football game from the outside perspective didn't evolved much, but, the equipment used in it has been always evolved (Graphics), the fields have become better (New Maps), the games broadcasting has been getting better each year with new neat features (CSP TV), rules have changed etc etc. The raw game itself will be there in the mod, only with a more modern visual, think like that :)

The only think that games need, are people playing. If we play the game don't die. CS PROMOD is a big challenge, for its creators. THey have many to do, because 1.04 didn't satisfie. But it can be awesome, like cs 1.6 was, when they evolue (1.5 to 1.6).

ithink valve believes CS:source have fresh players, money from sponsors but they dont care about quality of the engine, gameplay thats the main reason so many players dont interest source. CS PROMOD its a big challenge cuz the engine of source its not too good for be the next CounterStrike1.6 and i believe the "next" CS must be madeit in a good engine like crysis or CODMW2,rage and some radical changes in the gameplay.

If nobody puts investements in it, obviously its death will come.

Its True CS 1.6 is really dying, Hardware companies cannot introduce and advertise their high end products because of a 10 year old engine. People are just blind and cant accept the fact that Lan events are being organize but the prize money doesnt worth the sweat and hours of training. People should realize that programmers and developers are working hard just to help the CS community survive. They dont get it that these guys love 1.6 as we do they just improving it so more events will be hosted and more prize money for the PRO Players. I hope 1.05 will be a big break

Don't judge Counter-Strike Source by its release date, the source engine has received massive updates since it's launched, Portal 2 will use the most recent Source SDK (The game looks gorgeus), when that SDK gets released for developers CSPromod will be ported to it. And don't forget that when they finish the code they can port it to any engine they want, for example if in 5 years source is like golsrc is now, they can port it to CryEngine.
