Counter-Strike chosen for WCG 2011

World Cyber Games officials have announced that Counter-Strike 1.6 and FIFA 11 has been chosen as two of the upcoming event's game disciplines.

The organizers have put up a statement on the event's website proclaiming that the event's host city and games will be announced sometime during February.

Despite announcing February as the official month of disclosure, German officials have now revealed that FIFA 11 and Counter-Strike 1.6 will be two of the games hosted at the 2011 event.

The news comes to no big surprise as FIFA has been one of the games played out at the event ever since its start in 2000, while Counter-Strike 1.6 has been a tradition for six years.

Counter-Strike is still one of the top E-sport games of over a decade. If they were to actually ignore that fact and only support Starcraft and Fifa I'll facepalm so hard I'll have the bruise on the back of my head. Also I hope there's no boycotting this year, hope to see EVERYONE play lol

I don't read cadred, but I do spot when people from the CSS community come here and comment on stuff. If you don't like our sense of humor and the smell in the HLTV.org kitchen for that matter, then I won't force you to stick around, since I think the majority of our users would read my comment with a grain of salt.

You just stoop to their level though. Besides, two wrongs don't make a right. We all know 1.6. is better. We don't need to explain ourselves. And even though source isn't as a good as 1.6 and never will be, it's still a hell of a lot better than most other fps games that have come out in the last few years.

I don't have anything against the game itself, I don't like it, thats another thing. What annoys me, is the CSS community, well not all of it, but the majority believe the major 1.6 events should be transfered to CSS, simply as its a "better" game.

Ofc i agree with you guys on the fact that CS 1.6 drivers better, plays better and is more competetive than CSS. But i also think some of you guys are overreacting. Source got some major fixes the last 6 months and i must say that is not the crappy younger brother of 1.6 anymore. It's just a matter of style right now:)

how can you say a game such as cs 1.6 is obsolete. The strategy element is what keeps the game on going and hopefully it will continue on to be played at the professional level for many years.
