The runner-up of our Top 20 players of 2010 list is 2009's eSports Player of the Year and Best Counter Strike player award-winner, Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund. He continued with impressive performances for fnatic by being one of the best players at almost every tournament in 2010 and that consistent excellent play earned him the 2nd place on our list.

Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund was considered the brightest talent in Sweden for several years before he made his first step to the big leagues by joining NiP in 2007. Later that year he was added to SK Gaming's roster, but only as the sixth man, so in the end he decided to leave them in March 2008 to find a place where he would play constantly. Afterwards he tried his luck in lag-blank, but ended up making a team with several friends and they played for organizations such as EvilZone and Giants until the end of 2008.

At the beginning of 2009 he was signed by fnatic as a replacement for Oskar "ins" Holm. That proved to be an excellent move by the Australian-based organization as they ended up having the most successful year in their history, while Alesund became the star of the team and was named e-Sports Player of the Year and Best Counter Strike Player.

In 2010 he continued with the same individual performances, although his team struggled to repeat the success having made a lineup change at the beginning of the year, replacing Rasmus "Gux" Ståhl with Alesund's former teammate from Giants, Björn "threat" Pers.

Impressive from the beginning until the end

At the first tournament of the year, IEM4 European Championship Finals, where fnatic finished in 2nd place behind mousesports after reaching the final undefeated, Alesund already started impressing. He finished as the top rated player of the event with an amazing 1.39 rating, playing well in every match of the tournament. He showed impressive displays against home teams n!faculty and Alternate during the group stage, as well as in the semi-final against Ravens. Also, he was the top rated player of the final against mousesports even though his team ended up on the losing side.

The next tournament for fnatic came at the beginning of March in Hannover, Germany where they finished 2nd once more, this time at an even more prestigious event – IEM4 World Championship. Alesund played amazingly again, finishing as the 3rd best rated player of the event (1.21 rating) without having any bad matches. His best displays included an excellent 36-18 score in a group stage match against mousesports, a 28-16 performance in the 2nd map of the relegation match versus WeMade FOX, as well as once more putting up a great fight in the final despite his team's loss, this time against Na`Vi.

They traveled to Kiev next, to attend Arbalet Cup Best of Four, where fnatic didn't perform as they might have expected, winning only 7 of 15 matches and finishing in 3rd place. Alesund however didn't disappoint, as he was rated above 1.00 in 11 of those matches, ending up as fnatic's best and the 4th best rated player at the event with a 1.13 rating.

From February to April he also led the Swedish national team to their 7th title in the ClanBase NationsCup, as he was the best player of his team and arguably the MVP of the tournament, recording an impressive 1.35 rating.

In the middle of May, fnatic finally managed to get back to the top by winning Arbalet Cup Europe on their home court in Stockholm, Sweden. They played an excellent tournament all-around, while Alesund was the best of the bunch, receiving the Best Player award for his efforts. He finished as the top rated player of the tournament with another amazing 1.38 rating, again playing consistently well with ratings above 1.00 in each of his 11 maps. He shined the most in some tough group stage matches, having a 28-16 score against Frag eXecutors and an impressive 34-21 (24-7 during their second half comeback) in a very close 16-14 win over mTw. He was also amazing in the semi-final against PinG as he recorded a 1.63 rating during the 2 maps.

However, fnatic didn't keep up with that form as they were knocked out at the quarter-final of DreamHack Summer by H2k a month later. Alesund was definitely not the one to blame, as he ended up as the 3rd best rated player of the event with a 1.39 rating. Although, that was mostly thanks to his performance in the group stage, but he still didn't disappoint any more than others in the quarter-final encounter either. His best performance was in the 15-15 match against Fair Frag in the group stage, when he led his team to a comeback from being down 3-12 at the half, finishing with a 29-15 individual score.

An opportunity for fnatic to rise up again followed at ESWC in France, but they were once more held up at the quarter-final stage, this time by eventual winners Na`Vi. Alesund played excellent again having a 1.23 rating, although for the first time as second best in his team.

Ending two tournaments at the quarter-final stage caused fnatic to react and make a lineup change, returning to their 2009 roster as Ståhl rejoined the team. They then went to GameGune with their newly found motivation and already climbed to the first place at the Spanish event. Alesund played consistently well as always, having a rating above 1.00 in 8 of 10 maps (1.24 overall). He was top rated in two matches, in the Upper Bracket quarter-final against k1ck with a 23-11 score and in the next match against CNB with a 26-15 score. In addition to that, he was the best pistol-round player of the tournament and he was impressive in clutch situations, winning 7 of them.

The next challenge for fnatic awaited them in China, where they attended IEM5 Global Challenge Shanghai. They finished 1st once more, while Alesund was for the third tournament in a row the second best in his team, but still with an excellent performance and a 1.20 rating. He was again super-consistent with 7 of 8 matches rated above 1.00, including all 3 maps in the extremely close semi-final encounter against Na`Vi.

Their next tournament was also in Asia, as they traveled to South Korea two weeks later to attend e-Stars. They dominated the Continental Cup and the group stage of the King of the Game tournament, but were then stopped in the semi-final by WeMade FOX and had to settle for a 3rd place finish. Alesund was the best rated player of the event with a 1.28 rating, with 11 of 15 maps rated above 1.00. His best performance came in the semi-final against the home team despite fnatic's loss, as he brought them the 16-10 win in the 1st map with a 32-13 score, and afterwards was the only one fighting back during the 3rd map 11-16 loss, having a 33-17 score.

At the end of August, Alesund helped his national team to another title, this time their 5th in the ASUS ENC, as he attended the LAN Finals of the competition with Sweden. He ended up as the 4th best rated player of the tournament with a 1.20 rating, practically never disappointing his nation with his performances both during the online stage and the Finals.

In September, fnatic took part in MSI BEAT IT tournament in China, where they finished in 2nd place behind Evil Geniuses. Alesund was once more the best player in his team, with another excellent 1.23 rating and another display of consistency. His best match was against Lions in the semi-final, as he topped the scoreboard with a 26-10 performance in the 2nd map which secured them a passage to the final.

During the EPS Nordic II, which fnatic finished as 2nd after losing the final to mTw, Alesund also excelled, finishing as the 2nd best rated player of the event with a 1.22 rating, again playing well in practically every match. He also made one of his highlight rounds during the competition:

Their next LAN tournaments were DSRack #3 and KGC #2 in Denmark, where they reached the final of both events. At DSRack #3 they were defeated by Full-Gaming in the end and finished in 2nd place, while Alesund was the top rated player of the event with a 1.30 rating, playing well in 11 of his 13 maps. He especially shined in the semi-final clash with Lions, when he was top rated in both of his team's map-wins. At KGC #2 they got revenge on the Danish team, defeating them in a very close final, while Alesund was the 2nd best rated at the event with an even better 1.33 rating. He particularly excelled in the Swedish semi-final match against RAGE, recording a 26-9 score in a 16-3 third map win, as well as in the final against Full-Gaming when he had an impressive 34-18 performance in his team's close 16-12 first map win.

At the start of November, they visited China for the third time in 2010, now attending World e-Sports Masters. They lost two matches in a row in the double-elimination bracket, to Frag eXecutors and then Evil Geniuses, which sent them home early as 7-8th finishers. Alesund himself however played well in both of those encounters, finishing with a rating of 1.11.

During the online stage of IEM5 European Championship, fnatic qualified for the LAN Finals in Kiev by winning all 5 of their matches, while Alesund was the team's third best player with an excellent 1.21 rating, standing out in several matches. EPS Nordic III wasn't very successful for fnatic in the end, even though they made it to the LAN Finals, as they ended up last of the four teams. Alesund didn't disappoint in this competition either, having a rating of 1.00 in 14 of 16 maps and ending up as the top rated player of the tournament with a 1.30 rating.

At their last tournament in 2010 and the last one for Alesund as part of fnatic, they were knocked out in the quarter-final of DreamHack Winter by Na`Vi. Alesund had his worst tournament of the year, although still with a very solid 1.09 rating. He was the team's 3rd best player, which was the first time that he isn't among the top two, and the reason for it can most be connected to his performance against the Ukrainians, as he had his worst display of the year in the first map and thus finished his career in fnatic on a slightly bad note.

The best fragger of 2010

Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund continued with his form from 2009 when he was considered the best in the world, as he didn't have a single bad tournament during 2010, while he had more than plenty of excellent performances.

He was the best fragger throughout the year, having 0.84 kills per round during international LAN tournaments, which coupled with the shared 3rd least deaths per round (0.59), earned him the best rating of 1.25. He was also the player who was most often top rated in a match (37 times) and the 2nd most consistent player having a rating above 1.00 in 79% of his matches (104 of 132).

He won 4 titles with fnatic – Arbalet Cup Europe, GameGune, IEM5 GC Shanghai and KGC #2, and his performances were crucial in each of those achievements. He especially excelled at Arbalet Cup Europe, where he was named the Best Player of the tournament after a really splendid display. He also had plenty of other achievements with his team, such as 2nd places at IEM4 European Finals, IEM4 World Championship and MSI BEAT IT, as well as 3rd place at e-Stars, and he was fnatic's best player in each of them.

He was placed 2nd on our Top 20 players of 2010 list in front of Heldt, even though they have very similar stats, mostly due to being far more consistent. Alesund also has an individual accolade from Arbalet Cup Europe, while Heldt has none, and the Swede also has more international titles with his team.

Return to SK Gaming

At the end of 2010, fnatic's once dominant lineup split up and the players went different ways, as Alesund and his teammate Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg joined their big rivals, and also Alesund's past team, SK Gaming. Alesund is expected to continue with the same level of play in the other Swedish powerhouse during 2011, while both his ex-team and the new team will try to reach the top of the world.
