redCode sign project_kr

The Spanish-based organization has announced the signing of project_kr to be their Counter-Strike division for the 2011 season.

It wasn't the best start on the new year for the South Korean team, who in the early days of January announced that WeMade FOX would end their support to the team. Without a home, the team earlier this month received an invite to the IEM5 World Championship.

Following MYM losing their Russian CS team, rumors suggested that the former WeMade FOX squad would join the German-based organization. This rumor was however slammed last week, as an anonymous source told us that project_kr had other plans and would not link up with MYM.

Today the South Koreans bring good news, as they have teamed up with redCode, who hasn't been active in terms of Counter-Strike for a very long time.

"I'm very happy to join redCode. I'll play my best together with my teammates. Everyone can expect to my team's performance at upcoming competition. I would like to thank the management and our drea partners, Razer and wantz, for enabling us to further play professional." Geun Chul "solo" Kang said in official press release.

redCode - Now house South Koreans

redCode now house the following five:

Korea Geun Chul "solo" Kang
Korea Min Soo "glow" Kim
Korea Young Mo "enemy" Ahn
Korea Sung Jae "bail" Lee
Korea Bum Gi "peri" Jung

The debut as redCode will come next week, as the team will attend the IEM5 World Championship, playing the first group-stage match against SK Gaming Tuesday, March 1 at 09:10CET.

As far as I remember there were rumours with regard to some payment issues some time back and players leaving the organization not very happy. In all honesty though I have too read when redCode announced their 'respawn' that they promised to wash away all their past errors. So I presume it is about to wait and see if that happens.

Apparently there is new people in charge though the name that usually pops up in relation to those mistakes is that of Neider who is still there as far as I know. But, as said, the organization has claimed that it aims to improve those past mistakes with this 'respawn'. So we just can sit back and see what happens in the end.

The defusekids got 3rd at acon under the redCode tag, winning 10000 €. They never got paid by acon but ofc that's nothing to do with the org. but they also did not receive everything redCode promised them/put in the contract. travel lodging etc. they had to pay it themselves initially and later bug redCode about it awhile before they got reimbursed. This is what I remember from talks with apollo, but its been quite a few years ^^

I dont know if they are rich or not, but if the kr team signed, then i guess they promised them good things. Also since they have Razer as sponsors i would assume they are paying most of the bills of the kr team.

that is what the organisation pays them (well what they should pay them, as it was in the contracts :P) so from all sponsors together. Like I said though, this was 1 year ago, awhile after therecession set in, and also after SKs golden era with guys like heaton spawn element potti ahl snajdan etc :> I am not sure but I Think they might have had a bigger salary back then, before the financial crisis, and when SK was the #1 I also am not sure what the players are currently earning

Ye I know, that sponsorship usually means monthly salary in good teams... I just thought, that for example, in SK, there are many sponsors, but I really doubdt all they pay monthly wages to SK.... Imho only ACer is providing with money and other partners are providing only with the services, however I hope all them pay at least smth to SK +) I would like to take money from Kingston rather than USB keys))) Of course I don't know it for sure

as far as I know that is all, which is why many gamers have a study on the side, or a job, or retire at some point. the travelling around the globe is ofcourse taken care of though, and also food/drinks etc. so that in combination with having your hobby as a job, and being respected by a huge amount of fans, perhaps makes up for not earning a big salary for some of these guys.

Neider (redCode CEO) has a dark past. He confirmed that he owe money to some people and he paid back to them. I don't remember so well, but I think he was part of the first Giants organisation (not the current one) with the swede team. These koreans players should have a good amount of monthly salary. In Spain, no one (or almost) gets payed for play, so if you ask me about the reliability of redCode, I would say that I don't trust them. Anyway, I hope the best luck for them, they have a good potential.

No offense towards spanish teams but I simply can't see it working. For some reason they have never achieved anything with any spanish lineup nor succeeded with sending a team to a big event. Really hoped for MYM here :/

I don't see your point. redCode its a spanish organisation, not a spanish lineup with no achievements. Maybe the reason of why you don't see any spanish team winning a big tournament is that we have a lack of sponsorships here. Whats mean that? Spanish teams can't attend to so many european events, and of course they don't get payed, so they don't spend the same time practicing as SK Gaming or fnatic can spend. You saw what happened when Arbalet started his support to the ukranian guys, they won everything. Could occur the same in Spain? We don't know and we won't never know. And for the records, I can't see it working too.

You fail, redCode won few achievements like EPS in CS and CS:S, and they were in WCG 2005 International finals in CS:Source at Singapur too. They also won some important LAN events in Spain were compete teams like x6tence. It's not so much, so they were a top in Spain in the past in few games like CS, CS:S, FIFA, PES,... I hope they will do all that they are saying and they can manage this new korean team.

Well, it basically just proves my point. I have no interest in spanish domestic lans, so I was referring to their appearance at the international level. Thus if their biggest achievement was 'sending' a source team to WCG finals (where as you know the winners of local qualis get their flights and accomodations paid by organisers)... I can't see how you can describe my worries as a fail.

It´s moment to say the true my little lier...talking about cs 1.6 of course. redCode NEVER won any LAN Tournament or internet tournament against x6tence or with x6tence participating. redCode NEVER won any EPS tournament in Spain. redCode was playing the WCG 2005 Singapore finals because x6tence (WCG Champion) was playing WEG 3 in Korea and did not receive permission from the organization to play the WCG finals too.

I think it was bad luck cause they're always 2nd at EVERY tournament lol except at WEM where they won. But maybe this year will be different and enemy will step up and help redcode win sum titles.

From what i know wemadefox are a pretty decent team to sponsor, they have a monopoly on the asian market and are followed heavily in china and korea. The only expenses are the salaries and the few events that they are invited to and require flights. The living arrangements are being paid by the players them selves, supposedly they are using the money they won as a team during IEM to fund their accommodation during this year and they should be able to at least win this back with a win or two overseas during the year. I have my doubts about red-codes ability to live up to it's end of the arrangements but as pro gaming requires a license in korea and is run by a government organisation over there I think if anything goes horribly wrong legal action will be taken by the players against redcode. Previously when organisations have screwed over players and not met their contractual obligations the players have just left without pursuing legal action against the organisation. But with the koreans it's a different story I can actually see them pursuing legal action with the backing of the government department that monitors esports within korea. These guys have played for large companies within korea and are obviously not foolish about the layout of contracts so I'm going to give redcode some credit here. If the project_kr players and manager agreed to the contracts it's safe to say that the deal isn't too bad and they must feel that redcode is able to live up to it. Best of luck to the redcode organisation and its new team, I hope all goes well.

This seems really bad to me....I mean they go from Wemade(one of the most prestigious e-sport org in the world) to redCode? a Spanish organization? They have never eve represented a team even half as good as project_kr....I just feel this will only last for IEM and its just a ploy for rC to get their name out there....I cannot see this lasting for more than a few months. redCode must have made some amazing promises to p_kr and I cant wait 3 months from now when p_kr are owed money. redCode has no money generated from teams which means they are putting up all the money from their own pockets which means they will screw over p_kr the first chance they get just to make sure they make their money back.
