UMX announce US-based team

ULTIMAX Gaming have announced the enrolling of the former Ruins squad to their ranks.

The team, who hail from the United States, are currently thriving in the ESEA Invite with their second place position behind iDemise.

They have now received a major boost by being picked up by UMX Gaming and are ready to fully utilize the organization's support.

According to the official press releaseUMX will provide the team with a California-based house for them to practice full time in.

"We're all very excited and have put off school, work and our personal lives for a year to live and train together. As UMX.US we intend to make the most of this dream each and every single day. Special thank you to Tony 'xaN' Lo for all of his help," Dustin "dizzaman" Dilyerd said.

Furthermore, the support will make the team eligible to attend most domestic and international tournaments throughout 2011 - the period which their current contracts will last.

UMX.US boast:

United States Kyle "flowsicK" Mendez
United States Dustin "dizzaman" Dilyerd
United States Chris "TRULS" Navratil
United States Ric "iNERTIA" Bundy
United States Ricky "sLip" Cohen

The team will, according to ESEANews.com, have their first official debut at the ESEA Invite Season 8 LAN finish.

I seriously don't understand why all of these companies keep putting time and money into players that have already had their chance. Not to mention, these guys really aren't all that great, no offence. I give this team 3-4 months before either breaking up, changing players, or the organization cuts them. There are literally hundreds of highly skilled north american players that have never been given an opportunity, I just don't understand.

pretty sure slip, dizzaman and truls never really got their "shot" with a real organization backed by a corporate sponsor. this is a true organization which the entire north american community has been lacking for the past several years. so i seriously don't understand YOU.

because it really didnt pay off for Na'Vi. All of the players had their chance in teams like Virtus.Pro / A-Gaming, KerchNET etc etc... Assuming they have the right level of raw skill, living together is the biggest improvement a team can make. The cost of a house in the US isn't cheap, i would of those UMX would of made a bid for WemadeFox.

They couldn't have made a bid for WMF, considering there main team is Taiwanese and the whole org is based in Taiwan. I don't know much about the US scene, but I think this is them trying to make UMX a worldwide name, rather than just top 2 in Taiwan

that made no sense at all. "They couldn't have made a bid for WMF, considering there main team is Taiwanese and the whole org is based in Taiwan" "but I think this is them trying to make UMX a worldwide name, rather than just top 2 in Taiwan" they could of made their "worldwide name" with a team that is already top10 in the world. + closer to taiwan. The only reason that makes me think they went US, is because ZOWIE is based in the US, and ZOWIE support UMX.

my understanding is that starix lives very close to the flat location, and could just walk between the two. Not to sure whether it was before or after IEM. Regardless it's definitely a big reason why a team consisting of those players went to world #1 in the space of a year.

I appreciate your comment, that's a really good point. The only difference between NaVi and this team is that markeloff and company have extraordinary talent, whereas these american players are nothing special in any respect. Of course, only the future will tell, but my point touches on the fact that international CS is top level because of the mix of experience and new talent. You see up-and-coming players making a stand in all different teams throughout the history of international CS. First there were newcomers like f0rest and zet, then there were newcomers like roman and n0thing, now a days we have trace and minet (who seemed to come out of no where) as well as dennis, ect... CS has always relied on 'fresh blood' throughout different eras, and that fresh blood is always exceptionally talented. Teams and organizations in europe are always looking for new TALENT whereas american organizations are only looking for known names who have some experience, they're not willing to take a chance, and that's the difference.

Yeah, both your points are correct if these players end up 'doing nothing'. ive only heard of a few, and probably only seen a handful of games ever of them. So i guess time wil tell if they have the talent of Markeloff and co.

As an American who has seen these players playing in ESEA invite for what feels like years now. I feel I can say they are good players. However, they don't stack up to the Na'Vi players. They still have a chance to make ground internationally. I just don't see them doing any better than EG. :(

"We're all very excited and have put off school, work and our personal lives for a year to live and train together." *Facepalm* Unless you're the best players in the world, CS should be a second thing you're doing not the main thing. They shouldn't have put off important factors in life. What will they do if they DO become the best in this 1 year? They would have wasted 2 not 1 year if they decide to play another year. Regardless, good luck ;)

You can always return to school at any time of your life, not so much with an opportunity like this. I dropped school to work for 2 years, saw that it wasn't what I really wanted and picked it up again. Now I'm in college and doing great, sometimes you need to take a break and do what you think it's better to figure things out. Just my point of view, obviously.

School is one thing, I was commenting on other things. How many friends of yours will remain close if you neglect them for a year? Will their jobs last when they are out for so long? What if they have a girlfriend? Trust me when I was 14 I had to travel for a year, I came back and they were still friends...then I had to travel again for 6 months and I haven't heard of them again. Of course I have a lot of different friends now, but I still regret losing those to traveling for so long. Even now I LAN a lot and I'm in a good team, I usually wouldn't have time for my friends until I realize I'm neglecting them. SO even if education is put on hold and can be brought back, your "personal life" can be hard to recover. It's just that part that I don't understand, even top players have lives and have time to party and spend time with girlfriends. Many top players take education in the same time, why not do the same?

It also depends on where these players come from. Any Americans know where the players from this team live? If they're from California or somewhere on the West coast its far less of a deal than if they come from the East coast.

"wasted a year" what is the point of life in the end... to enjoy it right? I don't understand how a bunch of very young people 19-24 can't take a year of their life to give a shot at something they love to do? They are putting aside some of their obligations, not forgetting them. There is so much time for hard work and stress in life, i think not taking advantage of a very fun and unique opportunity would be more of a waste tbh, unless doing so really screws up your life (which it shouldn't, and won't for these guys)

Your last part is what I was going for in #151 (right over this post). Education can be put on hold (although that may affect when you'll get a stable job for a few years and find a wife...then again I'm in my 20s so I guess that's just my mind) Edit: Though I do agree it's a once in a life time opportunity, just that it's not a good idea to cast things aside. It's the attitude not the idea behind it. It's one thing to try to balance life and a hobby, and to pick one over another.

Not sure why people are so quick to critize a team and players they know zero about. They have improved majorly together online already over a shorter period of time. If they stick at it for the full year they will be major contenders with EG, finally someone

It is disappointing when sponsorship money gets thrown at room-mates rather than real talent. Anyone who thinks this team has more potential than the former-DINC lineup is delusional.

He was definitely not one of the 3 "managers" and not including the original CTO and CMO "figures" at the start when Loaded had one of the various different CS 1.6 lineups led by Steno which is now DINCNESS (another new lineup). He was just a staffer but you do make a good principle point and a rare comment based on the full facts and background.

Yeah, they could've just bought a apartment in sweden or anywhere in scandinavia, most poeple do talk english here anyways, plus it costs as much, difference is they'll get more competition here.

I think its a good choice. Players on this team are good individually and have been part of teams which have got good results against top teams like EG in US. With this kind of intensive practice, maybe they will make that proverbial leap. GL.

Looking at the success of past and present US counterstrike teams I don't think it's a wise decision for lesser a known (worldwide-wise) and lesser skilled team to drop school and work to train for a year.

probably would have been better investing in some mid-lvl european team just below the top like eSahara or SpraynPray or maybe TCM. Since it seems like they can give extraordinry conditions for getting really far and into the top, just like it happened to Na'Vi.

thomz was only recently unbanned from league play for playing s0nny's account last season, so that's why he's been 'a ghost' so far. He's too good not to be picked up if he's planning to keep playing competitively. Besides, he just lost his passport on a bus to the airport. Shit happens.

I don't think thoMz would personally waste his time on any team in USA after playing with compLexity besides maybe playing for EG when Storm retires. That whole passport situation was dumb but over exaggerated. coL had a lot of problems prior to that, evolution and hero hating each other.. drama drama. As far as it looks dboorN Irukandji and thoMz are still ESEA buddy friends so I would hope they go for him instead of really sub-par replacement 5ths.

Saying UMX.US is top 5 in US is meaningless because the gap from maybe the top two and every other US team is huge. Just look at ESEA-Invite; the 5th best US team, ttb, is 3-6. Plus one win is against a team that is 3-7 and the other two are forfeit wins. They're going to get moved down to ESEA-Main next season. Right now, EG and iDemise (formerly BackFire) are the only two US teams that are consistently very good. Maybe with a year to dedicate to CS this UMX.US team can get up to their level, though. They're one of a few US teams made up of good players who just haven't played together very long. Part of the problem with cs in the US is teams stay together for one season of ESEA-Invite then break up. Just look at sLip's team history, which is a perfect example of how players jump around: esea.net/users/216300?tab=history. Now that they're signed by UMX for a year and live together, there's less chance of them breaking up at the end of the season, though I guarantee they would change out at least two players without the UMX sponsorship.

truls and dizzaman are the core of the team. won main together and been top 4 team in the usa last 4 seasons. this is chemistry. my ranking (invite mid tier) inertia carried winout with entry frags to 4th place at arbelat cup dallas. my ranking (star player) flowsick was on the dinc / loaded team who was top 3 in the usa for 3 seasons including beating complexity on lan and placing second tho i always thought he wasnt on par with others. my ranking ( top main player ) sLip was on the dons and placed 4th last season. dont know much else but from what i hear hes very solid. i also seen he pecks invite kids in the head. my ranking ( potential ) this team should fair well given this oppertunity

Team has potential but the entire US scene is a joke. ESEA is the only league in the US and the invite division just can’t seem to hold it together. Ever year there are 12-16 teams that start in invite and by the end of the season over half of the teams are dead with 2-3 dying before the season even starts. The invite division is full of drama and half of the players in it is giant trolls and douche bags. Professionalism for the most part in the US scene is a joke, teams get hijacked, many don’t follow league rules, the teams use ringer constantly and it is just a shit show. Then in general all of US CS is full of bad mannered, immature elitists who believe if they don’t win their division in 1 season it is time to reform the roster, which causes massive amounts of hate and drama.

the US scene is definitely trying to make a comeback with this type of announcement. Although coL went in another direction with their brazilian lineup, it brings back the concept of the old CGS house that coL rented. Also the JMC house. Now, if these players can live together will be a different story. Don't want to see another CuZ incident :P

The US scene has been trying to make a comeback ever since CGS died and that has worked out SO well. This team will be lucky to make it through the next ESEA season without breaking up.

The attitude of the competitive CS players in the US needs to change before anything can really be accomplished. I mean most teams can’t get through a match without talking shit and seem to just want to make it as public as possible when it happens to try and make the community pick sides and shun the loser of the argument not even the match. There needs to be an age limit set for ESEA and a policy on manner and conduct that will result in some serious penalties that could potential affect the outcomes of the matches.

It's funny how much better the NA scene was before ESEA and pay-to-play were the only things left. I think a big portion of the problem is that before CGS there were always local LAN tournaments. They weren't huge, but it helped a lot of the players get LAN experience before CPL or WCG qualifers or whatever. Now theres only a handful of LANs around (and dwindling), so most players only LAN experience comes from making ESEA-invite finals which is only a few times a year. Of course coupled with the fact that most of the NA community spends time trolling and measuring their e-peens with each other, all the people who ever were worth a shit gave up a long time ago. It's unfortunate that a new game hasn't been able to compete with CS, it would at least allow for a fresh start again because the CS community in NA is ruined.

I don't think it matters about LAN experience because most of esea invite are the same rehashed teams over and over that there is rarely any new players that show up. If you were to have the esea playoffs today the top 6 teams all consist of players who were at the last 2-3 esea finals except for maybe 1-2.
