South Korea to host WCG 2011

The World Cyber Games commitee has announced that South Korea has been named as the host nation for the 2011 event.

The decision means that the prestigious event will return to its homeland, where it hosted its first four events, after hosting tournaments abroad for the past seven years.

The name of the city which will stage the competition has not yet been made public, but reports in Asia have suggested that Busan, the country's second biggest city, will do the honours.

The actual dates for the event have yet to be confirmed, but it should take place around September/October, before the ESWC finals, which will run sometime in the last two months of 2011.

Nine official games, including Counter-Strike, have so far been announced by the WCG commitee, who confirmed that more titles will soon be revealed.

Rumor has it 2011 WCG is the last edition of WCG due to the conflict of Kespa and Blizzard.

I'm not buying it. Kespa is a joke and has no power whatsoever over WCG. If they did WCG would've removed Blizzard games from its lineup to begin with.

ofcourse it's sad for us, with this timedifferences, but hosting wcg in asia is the right thing for them, they would get alot more visitors then for example in USA or in europe.

It's about prize money, which IEM has a lot of. IEM has well more money involved than WCG and ESWC I think in CS 1.6. I think it's a harder competition in IEM.

ah, that is true, that means alot. But for the fans and the spectators it is the worst with this delays. And it also shows how good the organizers are. Apparently not many organizers are good enough to not make the viewers waiting.

why you guys whine about time zone, ffs asian ppl are having the same problems for 90% of the tournaments, which are mostly hosted in europe. So it's fine to make it able for them to watch the matches in a proper time for once. Plus it's a great place (money wise) for the organization.
