Xperia PLAY reaches playoffs

Eight teams moves on from the second group-stage at Xperia PLAY, entering the final stages of the tournament, which will be played in a best-of-three map single-elimination bracket.

The second group-stage has settled, seeing sixteen teams being cut to just eight remaining. In the "Group of Death" also known as Group B, Lions came short of scoring any points, losing to SK and fnatic, the Swedes decided to leave WO against munkka. SK got the bragging rights against fnatic, sealing a 16-10 win for the top spot.

Danish stronghold mTw topped their group, despite a loss against Online Kingdom in the last match of the group. Joining them in the playoffs are Moscow Five, who advance based on a better round difference than Online Kingdom, with who they were in a three-way tie with (alongside mTw).

In Group D RG-Esports secured first place in the group, following a 16-14 win against TCM-Gaming on de_inferno. The Danes will despite the loss move on to the playoffs.

The last match to finish was Frag eXecutors against mousesports, a battle where the two teams tied, meaning the Polish team advance in first place, with the German squad following in second.

The picture for the playoffs has been painted and the bracket looks as follows:

Poland Frag eXecutors
vs. Denmark TCM-Gaming
Denmark mTw vs. Sweden fnatic
Germany mousesports vs. Sweden RG-Esports
Sweden SK Gaming
vs. Russia Moscow Five

The quarter-finals is scheduled to start at 18:00CET, with semi-finals to follow at 21:00CET. Grand Final and third place decider is scheduled to begin around midnight.

I don't know what their rulebook says, but 3-way-tie is how it should be done, not that 'all teams' matches count' like you stated. That was my point. If they ignored their rulebook, that's fail tho.

OK had a better round difference than M5, but the admins decided that the rounds from the face! game didn't suddenly count? :) so M5 went through instead of OK. Why on earth did they even play the game if the rounds didn't count/matter? Every single game should count if it's a groupstage. Great lan, great admins. What a joke.

Because apparently the admins ignored the players when they confronted them. I just find it funny, a team that did well and better than the other team is out of the tournament. OK beat mTw 16-8 and m5 lost to mTw 7-16.

Are you at IEM right now? No? Thought so. If their rule set says something you SHOULD follow that rule even if YOU disagree with it, they made the rules (which say stop at 16 & count the +/- from ALL matches) and should stick to them. PS. If mTw lost by 2 more rounds, 100% sure this rule would not have applied because there is simply NO WAY mTw would have dropped out when the rules were on their side. //My two cents, won't be answering so no need to respond

I'm simply referring to the fact that the rule, which ruled out OK, is the same used at IEM. I'm not picking sides, nor do I agree with how the rulebook for the competition (Xperia PLAY) is set up. The rulebook had a flaw, we've seen it before, I genuinely just hope tournament could invest the time needed, producing a proper rulebook, to avoid such things. It's a 10year old game for crying out loud.

I dont think it changed, as far as I'm concerned, the was a flaw in the rulebook, as they hadnt copied all lines from their usual rulebook, which is SLAP(LIVE) one, the same organizers who run that even, execute the Xperia PLAY tournament.

imo they should drop the grupestage and the bo3 playoffs... and just go for double elimenation bo1.... the first groupstage was fine to find the weak teams from the pros... and there have been many times when there have been teams faceing off way to early where they would have been the final game etc... games like navi vs mtw early in the playoffs... and many groups of death... and with a double elimenation bo1 the 2 best teams will allways meet the in the final (allmost) plus 1 game in a bo3 can be extremly long (wcg 2010)... and a double elimenation bo1 tourny is much much more spectating freindly sry for my bad english

Do you really think OK stronger than mTw? Maybe mTw just didn't want to strain, when they already in play-off? OK is a good team, but M5 is better (16-7). And stop this trolling.

cmon man, OK is not going to procede in the next round. face! has lost to everyone; why should it be counted to the round difference... Imagine other teams except M5 were playing with them starting on the most preferable side... and M5 on nuke started as T... it's the same as starting on train on T... If M5 were playing on CT first the score would have been smth like 16-5... and them OK is also out..

According to the tournament, every game counts to the round difference: "Round difference in ALL series".

Meh, counting round difference is kind of dumb in this situation, it's more of "how bad did you beat an awful team" and because they're not playing all 30 rounds they can get started on T side train or something and get screwed because of it. They should have had this in the rulebook though (not sure if they did or not, but most people claim no), as it's kind of unfair to arbitrarily make up a rule, even if it makes sense.

the meaning of the statement was if the team loses to everyone, why should we count them in the round difference... It's not the case now, but imagine if 3 teams tied up in 15-15 in all matches with themselves and won against another 4th team like 16-0 16-1 16-2, u think it's really fair that the team who won 16-2 is out?

Haha of course you'll go on defending the russians. The tournaments own rules say "Round difference in ALL series". The admins/arrangers even said to one of the teams something like "have you counted the round correctly because, EVERY GAME IN THE GROUP COUNTS". This is what I find irritating.

The tournament broke its own rules. It was said from the very beginning that RD counts in all situations in every series. When the arrangers were confronted they suddenly applied a rule from SLAP that the match between the tied teams counts or something, and not RD in any way anymore.

i dont understand. you mean last match of the group dosnt matter? is it like this in most of the tournaments? well i can understand they need to make their own rules in cs. because it would suck if they had same rules as football or ice-hockey.

Ye thats true, and then the admins broke the rule.. Then they had a discussion with the head arranger of the event about this, but he couldn't change the admins' decisions for some reason.

Yes, that rule can be found in many previous tournaments. But the rulebook for this particular tournament says "Round difference in ALL series." We have the right to be frustrated.

What an enlightening comment! The rules for this particular tournament were "Round difference in ALL series". The tournament broke its own rules and changed them, of course we're "crying" over it. I know you're happy since your beloved team got through. It was due to an unfair decision though, which you, nor apparently anyone else can see through.

You can't expect people to believe what you say, when you don't have anything to back it up. I am not saying that Freon or SETT.fi are lying, but you have to understand that people want to see the ruleset for themselves, especially since the scenario isn't mentioned in the ruleset on copenhagengames.com.

I don't expect them to believe me. I want to see the rulebook myself too. I do believe that this is the case though and that it was an unfair decision all-around. Why would they come up with such things if they weren't true?

I believe that the ruleset is only available at the LAN itself, they would most likely provide a link to it if it would be available on the internet as well. This whole thing seems a little odd to me.

in THIS PARTICULAR TOURNAMENT the rule was "Round difference in all series", not between the 3 of them in a three-way-tie, which means that the matches against face! should have been counted.

mTw loses on purpose: to SNG, WCG 2010, not to face NaVi in bracket to eSAHARA (15-15) (were winning 15-13 and when knew MYM won SK, lose 2 rounds not to face Na'Vi in play-off), IEM euro 2011 to coL, IEM world 2011 (NaVi again) to OK, Xperia Play 2011 (trying to screw M5, i think) fuck mTw

If the rules-book said: "all the rounds counts in both group stages" and "round difference counts to decide wich team advance to final bracket", then this final bracket ir unfair for OK, M5 shouldn't be there. But I can't affirm it with 100% sure, just as satanioN said, at least in HLTV.org there is no print/file of Xperia rules-book (unfortunely)...

how could anyone do that since the rules are not online and i believe the admins (or Nix0n, who made the decision to drop OK) wont put it up because then they would have to admit they made a wrong decision, or at least a decision against their own rulebook :)

I wonder how do you know that it was Nix0n who droped OnlineKingdom? ... There is no need to put the rules online, just take a print/photo wtv of the specific part where is stated the "round diference" rule.

i've talked to few different guys who are there atm and all of them said its Nix0n who did it. If I got the right idea there are no actual admins (?), Nix0n was acting as a consultant and the head admin of the event couldnt cancel his/their decision

If you can't prove it, then there is no way to believe in you. How fine it'll be if the rules were stated here!

Nixon already said that he didn't make the decision. Guys you spoke to might be wrong or is that not an option because it doesn't go well with your theory ?

Are you really that stupid? How the hell should Nix0n be able to make a call in the Xperia Play CS tournament? Get real, and stop these false accusations right now.

That's just what I heard from a reliable source. Also, this is what online-kingdom.org writes about the time after the decision: "I've tried to speak with multiple admins, none return the call or answer the text message, e-mail some others and even tried to join qnet channel, where I found we were all banned. So if there is any responsible admin out there, could you please explain your decision?" So even if there was an admin, he really couldnt care less about being available.

What does that have to do with US? We are not responsible for that stupid tournament, we are a coverage site, wake the fuck up.

As always its the obvious fanboys crying and whining. Just like when fnatic, sk or navi doesn't reach whatever they want them to. CRY MORE FOR THE JELLYBEANS THAT IS NEEDING FLUIDS!

i thought in a group , if 3 teams tie , than the round difference counts from all the matches ONLY and ONLY if all 3 teams have the exact same rounds is the 4th team kicked and round difference counted again if AGAIN all three teams have the same RD then they need to replay the matches between the 3 teams only logical conclusion to me :/ oh and it needs to be MR 30 not MR16 in groups IMO
