Official: Friis joins fnatic

Michael "Friis" Jørgensen has been announed as the new fifth for fnatic's Counter-Strike squad, replacing the retired Harley "dsn" Örwall.

With the rumor of Harley "dsn" Örwall retiring on Wednesday, Michael "Friis" Jørgensen was mentioned as the guy to join fnatic.

fnatic have now officially announced the arrival of the Dane, who two weeks ago was announced as the new fifth for the Danish flagship mTw. Jørgensen did however never sign a contract with the organization and will therefore join fnatic as a free agent.

Patrik "cArn" Sättermon, fnatic captain, stated the following on fnatic.com, as to why they picked up the gifted Dane:

"Because he has been carrying his previous teams a lot and due to the fact we urgently needed a sniper with Harley stepping down."

Friis officially joins fnatic

Jørgensen went on to say that it has always been a dream for his, to get the chance to play for a team such as fnatic.

"It has always been a dream. The great having to visit one of the world's best teams. Perhaps the best throughout the ages. It's really really big for me. It will be a big task to have to follow their former farms footsteps. But I'm ready for the task and hope the team and I could keep it on." – Jørgensen said on fnatic's website.

With the arrival of Jørgensen, fnatic are no longer 100% Swedish, but none the less consist of the following:

Sweden Patrik "cArn" Sättermon
Sweden Richard "Xizt" Landström
Sweden Rasmus "Gux" Ståhl
Bosnia and Herzegovina Faruk "pita" Pita
Denmark Michael "Friis" Jørgensen

With fnatic signing Jørgensen, fnatic will also miss out on attending WCG, as well as SEC, as the team no longer consists of five Swedish citizen.

The first big test for fnatic will be in Guangzhou, as the team will attend the $40,000 IEM6 Global Challenge Guangzhou in the first days of October.

international team is bad, because it means that country doesn't have enough good players to fill the spots in a top country team, and pick them from another countries. At WCG Friis will not able to attend, it's bad for him, it's bad for fnatic, because they will have -1 permanent player of their team. cArn is a great leader but in my eyes fnatic could be much better if cArn picked MODDII in January intead of pita and +1 sweden player instead of Friis(yes he is a great sniper, but I think he won't help them to get back to the top).

Actually, Friis has shown in the past, and recently, that he is easily a top contender for top 5 in the world. His play on Full Gaming was worthy of Player of the Year, and he played on what some would call a second rate team, not having a complete roster. IMO, this is huge, and could effectively give fnatic the edge they need to counter awp a lot of teams. They have been having trouble on train and this should change things. Edit: Second rate was a little harsh, meant just not a top team. And to further my comparison between Friis and Delpan, Delpan had a .1 higher rating (1.18, friis with 1.17) but had a higher K/D by .3...

This change comes at a crucial time for the FnaticMSI Counter-Strike team as the past few months have not been kind to the team with various roster changes and poor performances throughout the last half of the year. With the addition of Michael - the FnaticMSI.CS team is looking to turn all of this around and take the world by storm with top place finishes. BIG FAIL!

With my red and white colored heart, I must admit I was really pumped about Friis finally getting a spot in mTw. So it does make me a bit sad obviously, but at the same time, I wish him the best of luck in fnatic, as a friend and as player.

The only connection I talk about is that the ones I said, here, in HLTV.org's forum, are the kind that use to talk mindless shit. There are exceptions though. I know Asia is big.

what they lost? they won iem5 and lost two times in qfinals (in a really close battle) against FX and mTw. when u see their results it is actually amazing. they won against NAVI on de_train 16-3 and mTw 16-6. and i think that this line-up is actually better than any previous(2011).

Nice, just what they needed! Though a very weird situation, like I've said, because he joins fnatic after 10 days in mTw, I mean, that doesn't look professional to me. I hope that mTw can get someone to fill in that role as an AWPer so that trace can get back to what he does best, rifling.

sure wemadefox (or project_kr how they call themselfs now) is surly a strong team and they have some of the crazy tact. that i have't seen nowhere else...but the problem is they are from korea and they don't have money to go to some big europa turnaments...on my opinion they could be in top10 if they would attend 50% od turnaments that SK,NaVi or fnatic attend...just my opinion :)

dude wemadefox is one of the biggest esport organizations, and if youve seen their house you would know. they have had all the best players in most games. i suggest u cehck their gaming house, where their gamers live. im not talking about their cs team at all, but i can assure you they have money, also considering they had players like moon and lyn in wc3, especieally moon earned a fortune

i barely understand Swedish unless they speak really slowly and i know the most of my friends feel the same way, so i do actually see it as a problem for them in stressed situations, but ofc. if he is used to play gathers and such with them he might be a lot more used to it than me meeting some swedish guy randomly in the street every 2 month or so.

I guess what surprises me most is that he gave up playing with his fellow countrymen in mTw, who are top 4 in the world right now, to go and play for fnatic who seem to be struggling. I'd want to play with the better team who had a better shot at taking 1st place, which would definitely be mTw right now. So this move by him really surprises me. If he'd been on mTw, I could see them in the finals of the upcoming events. With him on fnatic, he's still not enough to pull their weight and I don't think it's enough to beat the top teams right now. Just really surprised he would choose fnatic over mTw is all. :D

Well, i have never seen Friis do much good against any top awper (Delpan/Markeloff/FalleN). And i have seen Delpan do plenty of damage against top awp guys while he was in MYM. Hence, i rank Delpan one level above Friis. Being said that i do hope that Friis can prove me wrong because there is nothing that pleases me more than SK being humiliated.

it happens in every sport.until contract is signed its still possible for other teams offer contracts. And in esports its not usually that strict, teams like to publish their players asap instead of waiting, this time it looks a bit messed up but in reality theres nothing weird ( expect for Friis' reasons for that but its a different story :D)

mTw: 1. Denmark dream team 2. He lives in Denmark, his home country 3. WCG, SEC 4. top4 World with possibility to become even better 5. more prize winnings since mTw > Fnatic 6. possibly less monthly salary Fnatic: 1. Move to Sweden, even if he is going to play in internet, it's a huge disadvantage for a team 2. No WCG, SEC 3. top4-7 4. less prize winnings 5. possibly more salary _______________________________________ Friis chose Fnatic... Probably I don't know something...

how can you rank fnatic when they havent played with friis yet? maybe they crush like IEM europe? Also, cArn is playing from london when they are practicing, playing from denmark is not even bad, its like 5-10 ping at the most. Both face and moddi are playing from denmark aswell :) so it doesnt really matter.

are there explanations on how it went with mTw ? I mean, he was a HUGE addition for them, can't have been easy leaving for another team just a few days after joining them... anyway, Friis is amazing and definitely a perfect pick for fnatic, however there still are weak links, it will be a miracle if they start owning with this line-up.

That's many years ago, dont really think it have something to do with that..friis said that he saw more opportunities in the fnatic team for the future. He felt like mTw was tired of all the practise, except one person (dont know who).. But i still dont get this, it doesn't make sence at all, how can he feel this already, he have been there for 10 days, maybe been praccing like 7 times.. and how can he see bigger opportunities in a fnatic team, with a 26 year old carn, talking about retirement all the time, gux and xizt who haven't played good in a long time, and pita who have been kicked out of fnatic becasue he wasen't good enough, and now he's back.. it's just wierd, that's just my oppinion, dont know if anyone agree with me.

it's my opinion too, and as a 4 year fnatic fan I know the subject quite well... clearly, at the moment, mTw offers much more opportunities as a team and to get good placements at tourneys. on the other hand, let's not forget that fnatic pretty much is the best organization a player can be part of. it's super steady, great sponsors, no problem with salaries and stuff like that. and Friis knows he won't get kicked like pita, they need him cause he pretty much is the only great sniper available and with enough skill to challenge Delpan and markeloff.

+1 Although Friis won't get kicked from mTw anytime soon imo. But the reason why joining fnatic doesn't make that much sense is that by doing so he's gonna miss both wcg and sec :( two big opportunities to shine and win something. Then again if he thinks that fnatic is more eager to practise and win something than mTw, it would make sense as it's more interesting to play 1 tournament and win it than it is to go to 3 tournaments and not even get a podium in any of them.

mTw must be so pissed right now losing Friis, a very skilled awp player, but imo he should have stayed there instead of going to fnatic.. fnatic have got to do a huuuuge work to catch up to mTw's level, i don't see the point even if the salary is a bit higher in fnatic

anyone else find it interesting that this is the 2nd time that fnatic has sniped a player away from another organization conveniently before they sign their contracts? I mean there should be an understanding that one a player is announced to an organization, that they should feel obligated to that organization. but o well... contract wasn't signed therefore fnatic took him away.

yes that clears a lot of things up Friis made a decision he is 100% behind of. Nothing further on that. What comes to the mTw "unmotivation" i think its just that they're been top for a long time and they've made up patterns to do so well so it might look for an outsider that they're unmotivated but in reality they're not. If you're top of a your game it doesnt requite to be praccing too much and too serious. LAN competition is what brings the best of you out.

I think it have something to do with the loss of ave aswell, maybe it will take sometime for them to get over he's retirement. That can be the reason why he felt like they didn't want to pracc, but 10 days.. you cant say anything after such a short amount of time.

i would say without practise we can understand eachother 50-60%, and since its cs info which alreay is pretty simular, i think it will be no problem. With a little pratise you can easily learn the opposite language up to 90% maybe..

Well a very good joice for fnatic, friis realy is that guy wich is one of the world's best snipers for last 2-3years, from one side i understand friis, yes its fnatic its legend and more, but mTw is not less lengend and popular team with those achievments if we compare to fnatic, maybe a little bit lesser, anyway fnatic this pick needed badly even more than SK need's delpan, so yes pick is 10\10 in rating but fail in corrent situation, because mTw is potential top1 world team (current +- top3) but fnatic i would say are or now or was, top8-10, im sure that friis will get in my opinion best salary in fnatic, maybe that was easyer choice for him

You can't actually tell that fnatic was in their "absolute worst form" just based on statistics, i think they played pretty well against the topteams. Now they've got more motivation(probably) and they will win just like kiev.(?)

How else can you tell their form if not from results??? Fnatic's results over the past few months have been without a doubt their worst in the past several years they've been playing. At _absolute_ best, you could say they're the 5th best team in the world, and thats being incredibly generous and very debatable. Na`vi, mTw, SK, FX are the clear 4 best teams in the world (in no particular order), with fnatic/mousesports/winfakt/moscow5/esc/lions/asian teams/and a bunch of other teams all being competitive for the 5th spot, and at this point (or atleast before picking up friis) fnatic definitely werent the favourites for that spot.

Great news, although I think they could do with another big player before they are a consistent top5 team. Be lucky if they managed to get moddii. Gux Xizt Carn Friis, Moddii. No words.

xizt, friis, gux, those three are scary, not as scary ass gt, f0rest, delpan tho. I think those three fraggers got the best igl in the game right now, but im not that impressed by pita. And I think pita knows he is playing to keep his spot in the team after they kicked him out of it not long ago. Moddii in for pita, and fnatic vs sk would be an equal matchup.

Well good luck to fnatic, I'm pretty sure Friis will do well in fnatic. I'm quite confused, because mTw seems to be better than fnatic now, and he decided to go with fnatic eventually.. this decision is really strange, but I'm sure he knows what he is doing, so I wish him and fnatic luck!

fnatic salary is indeed higher, but the difference between the two salaries (fnatic and mTw) isn't big, and he can earn more money with mTw by winning tournaments.

I still don't see any other reason to ditch mTw. They may have given him an amount of money right away for joining fnatic. Also having the higher salary in mind makes it a fairly rational choise, although I wouldn't do it.

fnatic has a perfect lineup now imo, two top fraggers in Xizt and GuX, pita is your role player, friis primary sniper, and cArn IGL..that's good enough to win alot of matches gl
