US WCG spot abolished

The United States of America will not see a Counter-Strike squad represent the 50 federated states at World Cyber Games 2011, as the spot has been abolished.

Changes were made to the WCG USA program last night, announcing that due to sponsorship funding issues some serious cuts have been made. Team USA will this year not be sending a Counter-Strike team to WCG, as only winning teams in League of Legends and Crossfire will be sent to compete in Busan, South Korea.

Counter-Strike qualifiers will be played out online and will lead into an online national final, which will act as qualifier for WCG Pan-Am in São Paulo, where the winning team will receive a paid trip to Brazil, for the event which will take place November 4-6.

It is not just Counter-Strike teams missing the opportunity to go to Busan, also StarCraft II players will see the chance to attend WCG 2011 slip away.

Changes were made to the WCG USA program last night, announcing that due to sponsorship funding issues some serious cuts have been made. USA is one of the richest countries etc and they can't afford to send one CS team to Korea? It's 5 guys. I'm pretty sure, that the players on their own could pay the trip for themselves and if not, than the organization could help out. Pretty sure Evil Geniuses would win and EG are a pretty good organization. This is just sad..

EG just purchased a house for SC2, Not to mention they send around 4-6 SC2 players to every tournament. EG also just purchased HuK from Liquid($$$). Personally, there is not a single North American team that could do anything internationally. While I think EG.cs is a great team, its just hard facts. North American eSports(Casual & Professional) has shifted towards Console(MLG), SC2, and LoL. I do agree that WCG should cover the way and I don't want you to take this as a "durF" comment. tl;dr - EG.SC2 is a better investment then EG.cs

Doesn't matter, if they can't do anything internationally. It's not like some randoms teams, who will win their WCG qual will do better than EG. Pretty lame, that they won't send a CS team there.

Lol, It's a hard fact indeed. EG won't be sending the team to 95% of the events, why? Because its not worth it when SC2 is the main game driving EG. You're either naive to accept the fact that North America won't return to its former glory days, or just trying to troll me. Btw, while pauLy and hero are great players, they wont improve EG's results internationally.

its not the teams that are having funding issues.. its the WCG organization. If i remember correctly, the organization pays for whichever team wins the countries qualifiers to come and participate... i assume the reason that they cut America is because i dont think we've won a WCG since Team 3D did in 2004

too much vodka here Yes/No? for starters an invention is thougt up and made up. Curry is a generic description used throughout Western culture to describe a variety of dishes from Indian, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Sri Lankan, Thai or other South and Southeast Asian cuisines.

i was using the term "invention" to designate the origin of the dish. curry (kari) in india was used to describe a mixture of spices, not the actual dish. curry, as you know it (the dish of meat/veggies in sauce) was created in england. im really not going to go into the entire history of curry here, you can read it for yourself and then try to make an educated statement

Counter-Strike in the US is all but dead, save for maybe EG, temporary, backfire, etc. A handful of teams here. And none of them good enough to compete on the international level, so no one's willing to invest. The CS scene here is dreadful. There's like an ESEA lan once a year and it seems like that's it. It's not because our country is bankrupt (we are), although that certainly plays a part in sponsors' willingness to dish out money for trips like this when they're pretty much guaranteed not to win any $$$ and since the scene is so small here now, there's not a wide enough audience to warrant the $$$ to advertise their products. The economy here could be the same as it is now, but if the CS scene were much larger here like it used to be years ago, then sponsors would be all over it and we'd have teams going to all the tournaments again. But it's all but dead over here, so yeah. Nothing really to do with the US economic situation. Everything to do with how small and inactive the american CS community is.

No. ESEA is the only reason we still have any competition whatsoever. There is no reason to waste money on a CS team when you'd get 5x as much advertisement/respect/fans for funding an SC2 team.

Who cares what country it is. It's about sponsors willing to pay, and sponsors are about people. Maybe those other countries have larger CS communities with more teams and players, so the sponsors are willing to shell out some $$$ to plaster their brand on everything and get the name out and advertise. What country it is means nothing. It's about the size and activity of the community, and to be quite honest, the American counter-strike scene is all but dead. It's tiny and what little there is is hardly active (one ESEA lan a year, and that seems like it's about it for us).

ESEA taking this WCG flag should of been the best for all US scene. You know how Americans love to put their flag anywhere in the world, specially in probably the best championship out there, WCG. And I'd like to join h3ro1n in his thought, YOU CAN'T FUCKING TELL ME THERE'S NO 1 ORG AT LEAST TO SEND 5 BOLLOCKS ALL OVER THERE, CMON, R'U' KIDDIN' ME??????? I know their scene is pretty dead, but seriously...
