mTw, M5, SK qualify for New York

The European qualifier for the IEM6 Global Challenge New York has finished, with mTw, Moscow Five and SK Gaming claiming the three slots.

Eight great teams had made their way into the final qualifier and delivered us high quality matches. In the quarter-finals, all four matches went to third map, in order to decide the winning team.

Advancing to the semi-finals were Moscow Five, who would take on mousesports, and mTw who was paired with SK Gaming. Moscow Five were after three maps able to secure a spot to New York, followed by mTw who very convincingly defeated SK Gaming 2-0.

In the fight for the last spot, mousesports and SK Gaming brought us a stellar show, once again going to the third map, to determine the winner. Having been done one map after losing de_nuke 26-24, SK Gaming won two maps in a row, defeating mousesports 16-11 on de_inferno and finishing off on de_dust2 with a 16-7 score line to secure the last European slot for New York.

With the European qualifier over, following teams are now ready for the IEM6 Global Challenge New York:

United States Evil Geniuses United States Temporary United States Backfire
Sweden SK Gaming Russia Moscow Five Denmark mTw

ESL is still looking for an Asian team to attend the event, to find out more click here. The eighth and last spot will be handed out to a Brazilian team, through a national qualifier.

The IEM6 Global Challenge New York will take place at the Comic Con exhibition, running October 13-16. HLTV.org will be on site in the Big Apple to follow all of action from the $40,000 tournament.

Looks like it's going to be a good tournament. =D (In the qualifier I was surprised to see M5 take out Fx 1st round, and equally surprised that mouz gave SK so much trouble) Hopefully the US teams can give the Euros a run for their money. GL Temporary and EG.

They are all capable of causing damage. Even though Backfire is lesser known internationally, there isn't really a #1 American team at the moment. This should be a good measure though. Hopefully UMX.US can make it somehow too.

They coasted to victory on the maps they won (16-7, 16-4). I'm confused how people are putting people above EG right now and I'd say backfire is the #2 team in the USA for the time being.

I honestly doubt they will find a Asian team with the funds to attend, hoping one more spot will go to Europe. Also, it sounds as none of the Brazilian teams attending the qualifier will have the needed funding to go.

You've never heard of them or seen them play. They had the same record as EG in ESEA this season, and constantly play EG/Temp and it's 50/50 results.

i didn't say canadian teams were good. i can't even name a single canadian team from the past 2 years. all i know is north american cs is a joke and shouldn't be included in any competitions where there is a limited number of spots.

you cant even name a single canadian team, but you feel your knowledge is valid enough to form an opinion on who is qualified for the tournament?

What can I say... Intel Extreme Masters Main Round that took place online was much better than this. System with Online Main Round and COntinental Finals and next Global was really great. 2 groups from twelwe teams... It was real fighting! :D And now? What we have? mTw, SK, M5 + several American teams? Is it a joke? I know... lack of funding, but this suxx anyway :\ Sorry for my poor English, it's getting better :)

first there was an online qualifier to qualify for the final online qualifier, then the final online qualifier qualifies for the IEM New York Regional Finals which is a separate event (about 40,000 USD prize money) but also acts as a qualifier for the IEM World Finals. get it?
