Evil Geniuses win seventh ESEA title

Evil Geniuses have won their seventh ESEA Invite title, defeating Full Gaming 2-0 in the Grand Final to bag the $10,000 first place prize.

The three day event in Dallas has finished and once again Evil Geniuses have been crowned as champions. EG did have a bit of a rocky start, but still managed to stay in the upper-bracket, following a 2-1 win over Full Gaming in the semi-finals.

Following the upper-bracket final win against UMX.us, EG had a great standpoint before the final, as they would have to win one best-of-three, while the challenger, which turned out to be FG, would have to win two best-of-threes.

The Grand Final started on de_nuke and it was Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert who turned out to be the deciding factor, finishing off with 29 kills and 17 deaths as EG won 16-11. Moving on to second map de_tuscan, first half saw FG on the Terrorists side, able to claim a small lead with a 9-6 score line at half time. EG were able to replicate the 9-6 score when they got the go on the Terrorists side, forcing over-time.

The first over-time couldn't settle the map, with both teams winning three rounds. Second over-time EG claimed a 2-1 lead after first half as CT. ESEA Invite season nine finished with Andrew "Irukandji" Timmerman winning a 1-versus-3 situation, last man standing for FG was stuck at the A site, while the bomb went off at the B site.

Tuscan wasn't made by Valve therefore you can't really blame them, (not sure where he got stuck) but if it was on the door that leads to the underground pass, that's more of a map design fail than a game related bug. Edit: Just saw where he got stuck, it's the first time I've seen this happening on tuscan not sure how he got stuck there :D imageshack.us/photo/my-images/716/bugmtv..

true, tuscan wasn't made by valve, so they can't be blamed for that one. but on inferno, pauLy got stuck on the double boxes by blue door in alt mid, and valve made inferno, didn't they? (that was 1st round of the match, too, so it wass a 4v5 pistol D: )

Those are the boxes, but I'm not sure what role the door had, as when I switched pov to him it was closed. He was stuck there until the round ended. Being pistol round it was especially devastating.

no, the new EG > old EG. the individual skill, teamwork, and creativity of the new EG lineup is infinitely better than the old EG lineup when lurppis first joined. you can't compare one lineup that has only practiced together online, to the lineup that LAN'd all over the world, had several bootcamp opportunities, and roughly an entire year together. the old EG lineup was not even consistently winning online matches until they went overseas to bootcamp. i think any team would become infinitely better given those opportunities. the only thing the old EG had that was better was their awper.

Well imo if one compares this lineup to the one where gfn still was (before dboorn joined), that lineup clearly had the advantage that they had experienced players who knew how to play close situations correctly. In my opinion the fact that these players, apart from n0thing, have mostly had very few opportunities to even play against the very best clearly shows as they make stupid plays in 3v3s, 2v2s too many times. But you are definitely right in the sense that if this lineup could bootcamp in Europe, they could probably learn out of those habits much better and actually be good on an international level. Sadly I doubt this will ever be the case

no, theyre definitely going to bootcamp overseas, its just a matter of timing. there has to be an event over there first, and then they pretty much just buy earlier plane tickets, and work out a schedule with the other european teams in the days prior to the actual event. i don't think any sponsor would send a team across the world JUST to train, without an event attached to it. maybe ESWC, but if im right that's in Asia, and i believe the European bootcamps are the most valuable to teams. either way, gl to them.

well no matter how "bad" EG played, the other team played worse. thats how it works no matter who is playing. i personally think every team played great individual cs at the ESEA Finals, but many teams lost advantages they may have had due to poor strat calling and not being prepared at all on custom maps (i.e. the non-regular 4 LAN maps). i think every team ran into this problem, but ive honestly never seen so many consistent COTW worthy plays from so many players repeatedly. tons of overtime matches. great to watch.

they won 6/7 LAN Finals. one round they were knocked out early by DiNC i believe, and then DiNC lost to excello, in which case coL came up and beat excello. im not sure the details, or if coL and EG even faced off that time. im guessing they did.

of course Eg wins every season now......there is not other team to give them a challenge...every top NA player has been on EG for the last 4-5 years bc there is no other good organization...now that fr0d left, i bet temporary will start to kick some ass once they get rolling..

EG looked incredibly average the entire tourney tbh, FG were in better form the whole time but just couldnt close out a couple of their games that they should have won. Would have been interesting to see how many more maps the final went to if eleint didnt glitch out on that last round of OT in the 3v1. Semphis was easily mvp of the whole comp, sgares played great too

not that i think they are going to do moons better overseas, but EG doesnt even really have to try to beat american teams...and they save most of their strats for bigger tournaments. Its actually not uncommon for EG to pug the entire season, make lan finals, and then win with little effort.

EG is playing deathmatch in america to win ESEA, really its free money for them, they can make top 3 in EU but thats if they play A-game for every single game which hasnt happened in the last 4 years except for MSI in china

First of all the last map was on de_tuscan, it was a 3v1 situation against Irukanji from EG, iru killed both of them but the last guy was in A because he was stuck in the box, that means the last round was cheated. Full gaming deserved to win.

So because EG won that, Full Gaming deserved the win? If FG won that round, it would have gone to another overtime. Your logic was appreciated, though. With your outlook, when n0thing had no sound and was afk on pistol of dust2 against Ultimax Gaming, they should have won. Then when pauLy was stuck on blue door on inferno, EG should have been rewarded that round as well.

Yes, and they would have got the next map which was de_mirage ( FG won all the games against eg on that map )

It would have went to another overtime, not the "next map". And the next map wasn't mirage, you'll recite something that's true here eventually, just have to give it time.
