fnatic and eFuture advance to semis

Group A at the IEM6 Global Challenge Guangzhou has finished with fnatic and eFuture advancing to the playoffs.

The first day of the Counter-Strike tournament in Guangzhou has finished. With the first round result between Anexis and fnatic, seeing the Danes get a narrow 16-14 win on de_tuscan, fnatic found themselves in all sorts of trouble.

They did however secure a spot in the semi-fnal after victories over eFuture and Immunity. Anexis seemed like a team to advance after their win over fnatic and defeating Immunity in the second round, but a loss against eFuture sent them out of the tournament.

fnatic claimed first place in the group with a +4 round difference between the three tied teams, while eFuture claimed second place based on their head-to-head win over Anexis. Immunity goes back to Australia with zero points and a total of 13 rounds won.

Next in the pit will be Group B, seeing mousesports, WinFakt, TyLoo and Executioners fight for the two spots to the semi-finals starting at 4:00CET tomorrow.

Fact that speaks the truth to stop all you whiners Extracted directly from ESL rule book on page 18 gfx.esl-europe.net/gfx/media/masters/rul.. The Ranking is primarily decided with regards to the number of points that a participant has amassed during the season. A participant will earn 3 points for winning a match, and 1 point for drawing a match. The below ranking priority will come into effect if 2 or more teams are on equal points. If at any point, the number of tied participants is reduced or divided into several groups of tied participants, the still tied participants will in each case be compared again(NOW AGAIN) starting with the first point. · Points amassed between the participants themselves ('Mini-League') · Score difference between the participants ('Mini-League') · Score (number of wins in the Score Difference) between the participants ('Mini-League') · Overall score difference · Overall score (number of wins in the Score Difference). so obviously, fnatic advanced in the 3-way tie, so that Anexis and eFuture are tied again, therefore point 1 is applied AGAIN, so that eFuture elimated Anexis with a apparent 4 round differnce, 16-12.

· Points amassed between the participants themselves ('Mini-League') 3 points for each team. · Score difference between the participants ('Mini-League') Fnatic through, eFuture and Anexis at -2. · Score (number of wins in the Score Difference) between the participants ('Mini-League') Anexis through, 28 higher than eFuture's 26. I might have misunderstood the rules, would you care to explain exactly what point gave eFuture the 2nd place in the group?

Great, I didn't get my edit done in time. I just woke up so excuse me for missing the obvious point you have in the bold text. I think I got confused by your last sentence; "so that eFuture elimated Anexis with a apparent 4 round differnce, 16-12", seeing as the round difference is irrelevant - if it goes back to the first point eFuture got through because of 3 points vs. Anexis' 0, surely :)

So? I do not think you get it. It is a three way tie, you HAVE to count all of the three teams. See, you can't go for head to head matches, as they all beat each other. So Cartman decides to go for rounds, which means that fnatic and Anexis will move through - BUT he only applies the round rule for fnatic for some reason, and not for Anexis. yes they both have a -2 r/d, but 30-28 is better than 28-26, and I don't know how much youre into sports, but thats common sense. He made a mistake.

It's hard to compare round difference to begin with. Anexis played 6 more rounds in that 3way tie, which is kind of unfair. If they are going compare they should play all 30 rounds of the match. But as we have seen before, most teams doesn't play those rounds seriously :/ I think there should be a rematch between the two..

yes but it is a three way tie which means head to head DOES NOT change anything. Then go to to rounds, which means fnatic is first and then anexis based on having more won rounds.

26-28 and 28-30 is both r/d of -2, Anexis played more rounds but their r/d is the same so it's logical to apply the next tiebreaker decider, which is face-to-face result. For all the guys who said Anexis is better than efuture and deserves to go through, you clearly did not watch their train game when efuture just outaimed Anexis and got 10 rounds as T. I do not know how you can say Anexis is the better team if they got demolished by a newly assemble pug on train's CT side

That is true, and the astonishing part of this is that the head-to-head comes in play when two times are tied in 3-way-tie. In addition to that, we can argue that 28-30 (anexis) > 26-28 (efuture).

The point is that head2head has already come in, and its inconclusive due to being a 3-way tie which is why rounds have to be used. They've then gone back and used head2head twice..

I doubt it. Also now you start to bring up wnv and wcg, let me show you this: "Losing to wNv.cn, FireGamers really needed to pull off a victory against fnatic in the last match of the group to have a shot at progressing, but their 17-13 victory resulted in a three-way tie with fnatic and wNv, both of whom eventually progressed due to having a better round record between the affected teams" You see? BOTH teams progressed due to have the better round record between the affected teams, WHICH means in this case that fnatic and anexis would progress. So how would you explain this? ESL failed. ( hltv.org/news/3213-whos-in-and-whos-out... - group b )

we are not even on the same page. as i said, it was wNv(wNv.gm) vs mTw which they beat mTw on de_inferno which also caused a three way tie, although 1st placer(i dun remember which team) and wNv had the same round difference, but a headtohead was applied AGAIN, so wNv was elimated from group stage.

If I understand correctly "both (wnw and fnatic) of whom eventually progressed due to having a better round record between the affected (!!) teams" Okay, applying to our situation fnatic has +4, while eFuture and Anexis got both -2... Why would you suggest that Anexis is taking the 2nd place instead of eFuture?

Because anexis has 28-30 whereas wnv has 26-28, and if you look at almost any given sport no doubt that anexis should go through. Also ESL rules talks about overall rounds

Yes, you're right, I thought that in your previous statement you said that round difference is counted only between affected teams (without Immunity). However, the logic is quite normal: Fnatic +4, Both eFuture and Anexis -2. But eFuture > Anexis. I agree that to send Anexis home with this shit is unfair. At least a rematch should be given. In any other sports rounds (goals) are counted between all teams, but I agree that giving Anexis the 2nd spot, just because they beat outsiders (Immunity, with all respect) with a greater difference, is also unfair.

Sad for Anexis.. they seemed to be a good team. I've watched the games against fnatic and Immunity and they played good rounds. By the way, I believe fnatic will get to final but will stop on WinFakt

"The rule about ranking of teams that are tied by points will not be altered. That means that direct comparison comes before direct rounds and overall rounds, but rounds still matter. This rule only affects group stages with best-of-one mode, which are usually used at events, for example the upcoming Global Challenge Shanghai." Thats from esl-world.net/masters/news/129801/CS1-6... which is saying that head2head (direct comparison) should be counted before rounds. This ruling they've done with efuture/anexis has counter head2head after rounds which directly goes against their own ruleset..

Great find. So according to the rules, we have a three way tie which means head2head doesnt add up, so we have to go for the rounds, which means fnatic and anexis should go through. great job ESL.. edit: btw link doesnt work for me, so I am only basing this on what you linked.

Well yes and no - because anexis/efuture head2head is inconclusive (due to 3-way tie), and their rounds are tied, then there'd have to be a rematch which is the only remaining option. It doesnt mean that anexis immediately go through, but it DEFINITELY doesnt mean efuture go through which is what they've done.. But yes, their decision in this tournament completely goes against their own ruleset. EDIT: link keeps cutting off hopefully this works: esl-world.net/masters/news/129801/CS1-6-..

Well, I believeoverall rounds means Anexis should go through, seeing as they have the same round difference, but apparently not. Either way, I think most of us can agree that something is wrong.

I'm not sure how they got to that ruling. It seems to me what they did was take the 3way tie, get fnatic as first due to the best round difference. Then take efuture and anexis as a separate 2way tie for the 2nd place (completely ignoring the fact that they were tied along with fnatic for the first place because the first place has already been decided) and deciding that efuture goes through because of the head2head. I'm sure the fact that the tournament is played in China has nothing to do with them going full retard on the ruling.

Well, even thought i know some of the players from anexis i cant see past, if i were carmac i would despite the rules make another match against them to first of all, get more viewers and giving both teams a good chance to proof they are worthy. if you like it or not that's good buisness

If at any point, the number of tied participants is reduced or divided into several groups of tied participants, the still tied participants will in each case be compared again starting with the first point. · Points amassed between the participants themselves (3-way tie) · Score difference between the participants (fnatic +4 anexise -2 efuture -2,fnatic advanced) · Score (number of wins in the Score Difference) between the participants (anexise 28,efuture 26,how come efuture through?) · Overall score difference · Overall score (number of wins in the Score Difference). · If after all 5 points the teams are indistinguishable, a decider match or matches have to be played, in an attempt to separate the participants in question. In special cases, the tournament direction can rule on a different way to determine the order in an unsolvable tie (i.e. coin toss).

yes but according to the ruleset anexis got 2nd in the three way tie. Take for instance the 2009 example from wcg. wnv > fg, fg > fnatic, fnatic > wnv. We have a threeway tie, but seeing as wnv has the best round score they go through, and fnatic has the second best so they go through, EVEN though FG beat fnatic. In this case, we have a three way tie too. fnatic has the best round score, so they go through, anexis the second, so they should go through too, even though efuture beat them. You should first go 'reduce the group' and head2head if both efuture and anexis had 28-30/26-28, not when one of the team has the better score. The rules says "Score (number of wins in the Score Difference)" which means Anexis should go through.

but they have better round score, as theyve won mroe. read the rules, says first it checks score difference, if the same it goes for "Score (number of wins in the Score Difference)" which means 28 vs 26.

(+2) Anexis 16:14 fnatic (-2) (-4) Anexis 12:16 eFuture (+4) (+6) fnatic 16:10 eFuture (-6) Total: Anexis -2 eFuture -2 fnatic +4 Whereas rounds won: Anexis 28 eFuture 26 fnatic 30 So they should have looked at the rounds they won and not check those 2 teams head-to-head?

no cuz its a three way tie. they look at head-to-heads in the beginning, but seeing as anexis won fnatic, fnatic won efuture, and efuture won anexis, they start to look at rounds instead. that is why fnatic is first, and why anexis should be second.

Not exactly sure what you mean, but as the comparison got restarted after the second point, it went back to the first point with only Anexis and eFuture left. And seeing as the first point is number of points eFuture had 3, while Anexis had 0. That is my understanding at least :D

if that is the actual case and ruleset this circumstance would prove how outdated and illogical it is because fnatic will probably go on to win this event without losing to anybody (except anexis) and efuture actually struggled against immunity (probably lowest team this comp -35) whereas anexis beat them really comfortably but in the midst of all this anexis wont even make it out of groups but efuture is in the semis, all because of the most complicated configuration of deciding a 3 way tie

Okay, i mostly agree. But if Anexis beat fnatic (event winners like you say) and easily beat Immunity (lowest team) why they didn't beat eFuture, who had problems with Immunity?

Im not sure why people say "esl fail", "this is stupid". I found it pretty simple. You can say its a 3way tie... ok in this 3way tie fnatics were best according to round difference in 3 way so fnatics are first. Ok by now we know fnatics are first for sure. Because they couldnt define a winner between anexis and efuture they compared them head to head, thats it, its simple and straightforward. Besides nothing is wrong with this math, you might prefer other way of determining who wins between the two, but they used this one.

If at any point, the number of tied participants is reduced or divided into several groups of tied participants, the still tied participants will in each case be compared again starting with the first point.

Notice this rule: If at any point, the number of tied participants is reduced or divided into several groups of tied participants, the still tied participants will in each case be compared again starting with the first point. 1. Fnatic, eFuture, Anexis both have 6 points, according to 1st point of the rules "Points amassed between the participants themselves ('Mini-League')", they both tied. 2. Now, according to 2st point of the rules "Score difference between the participants ('Mini-League')", fnatic is the better. 3. Right now, the number of tied participants is reduced, so the still tied participants(Anexis & eFuture) will be compared again starting with the first point. 4. According to 1st point of the rules "Points amassed between the participants themselves ('Mini-League')", eFuture is better. So, fnatic & eFuture through.

how far i see, anexis ir very fuck'd up, i think its a bit harsh, win to fnatic even round difference is on anexis side, and top7-8 team not getting to semis.. but some top20 team does.. well it is what it is :)) rules rules blablabla.. we just se how lame they are
