More info about CS:GO show matches

ESL has revealed more information regarding the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive show matches set to take place during IEM6 Global Challenge New York.

IEM product manager Michal "Carmac" Blicharz a few days ago revealed that the very first CS:GO matches will be played in New York, where Valve will be showcasing their latest version of the popular FPS title.

The specifics about the show matches has now been announced. There will be a total of two matches, one featured Friday at 00:00 and one at Saturday at 00:00 . The match on Friday will feature two teams from Group A, while the match played Saturday will be a battle between America and Europe.

Both matches will be streamed by ESL TV and commentated by Joe Miller, who most likely will be joined by a co-host, possibly a player who is not participating in the show matches.

We will be on site in New York to bring you all of the action from the IEM6 Global Challenge New York and will also be sure to bring plenty of content regarding CS:GO.

CRTs do the job with a small investment, otherwise you will need a LCD with 75hz or more to decently play CS.

They are not as a matter of fact, they consume way more energy than the LCD's and u need a lot of space in your desk to make it fit, besides now LCD's surpass the 100hz. LCD 120Hz>100hZ Crt :D AND they look better and the best definition ;)

I wrote that as a joke-.- Yes, I do have a shit computer that can only run CS 1.6, but there was a time that I used to get 30 fps on CS 1.6. If CS:GO turns out to be a success and appeals to the pro's and extends the life of CS, I would be more than happy for it to carry on Counter-Strike's legacy and I would just save up and upgrade my system to play CS:GO, just like I did when I used to get 30 fps in 1.6. :)

I'll not start throwing shit on a thing that I didn't try yet. I hope the developers of CS:GO accepted all the criticism done by 1.6 community after some videos and stuff showed and changed a little bit the objective of CS:GO, bringing it more closer to a Professional game.. And not a game for fun.. for kids. Let's see how it will go on New York and what pro players will say about it..

The whole "1.6 forever" attitude is exactly what's killing the cs community and allowing games like starcraft 2 to have bigger tournaments and more exposure. Fact of the matter is, cs 1.6. sees practically no new players coming to the game. Not anywhere near as many as other games at least. If you all want CS to be back on top like it was, you shouldn't be so ignorant and immediately dismiss CS:GO. Sure, css isn't as good as 1.6. but it's not complete garbage if you compare it to the other FPS games that are released these days. So, there's a chance CS:GO will address the issues that CSS has. I mean, how many times have we seen the developers say they want a good competitive game with a a larger skill gap? And not to mention, look at how they're reaching out to the cs/css pros for their opinions as well as tournament organizers like ESL/ESEA and possibly others? 1.6 will not be around forever; it's as simple as that. You all are going to have to move on at some point... Why not at least try the game before you all scream "CS:GO = bad" "1.6 never dies."

You are speaking the truth. 1.6'ers has to be more open minded. I can't figure out why some are holding on to 1.6 so intense when there is no future for it anymore. Sad but true. It had a good run, but now its only loosing players and not gaining any new. If you really love 1.6 you should support cs:go, and togheter as a mass try to form it into something worth calling cs.

Also, keep in mind that CS was (if you look back at it all) pretty hilarious back in the betas and upon its release. Many imbalances existed for quite some time until they were removed. So again, give the CS:GO matches a watch but don't be so quick to judge an unfinished product.

As a 1.6 player, I'm embarrassed to be a part of this community. Valve is giving us the opportunity to HELP them make a new competitive game and we are throwing it in their face for zero reason. I envy guys from the fighting game community. Guys who play SF4/MVC3/MK9 because they embrace new games, they communicate with the developers and they support the community. The 1.6 community is full of cry babies who attack anyone who tries to help them. Look at Pro Mod. Its a fantastic fucking game and feels almost exactly like 1.6 but because the 1.6 community is a joke, the mod has no support and probably wont go anywhere. Now we have Valve approaching US to help THEM make a full fledged competitive sequel to the game we've been playing for over 10 years and we give them the middle finger? This attitude is pathetic and this community doesn't deserve to stay alive. At this point, I almost wish all of you frauds who have a nostalgia boner for 1.6 would just fuck off because you make the rest of us who are trying to progress not only Counter-Strike but competitive gaming, look bad. This extends to the professional players to. I saw in a thread on ESEA that a lot of the pro players haven't even tried Pro Mod. They haven't even TRIED it. So much fucking ignorance, its sickening. Fnatic is the only team I respect because they actually made an effort to play Pro Mod but of course, that was thwarted by this butthurt community that would rather play 1.6 and slowly fade away into obscurity.

Why would people not attack ProMod? They have spent 5 years making a copy of 1.6 and because it is a mod they have been unable to address the things a modern eSport-FPS actually needs. As a 1.6 player I don't see the point in switching to ProMod. The game might be a decent copy but why would I as a fan switch to a copy that "feels almost like 1.6"? Should I switch because some people think it is the best thing for the community even though the game is worse than 1.6..? Valve has ignored the 1.6 community since 2003, so I think it is natural for people to be critical even though the company has finally reached out for help - the question is however if that is only to make people think they will make an impact, when in fact they could have just hired x amount of former pro players to work at this game from the very beginning.

The point is though satanioN, players have the opportunity right now to help develop a game, and make it a great eSports title, even better than it's current predeccessor. The fact that people don't want to take a great opportunity because it doesn't LOOK like 1.6 right now, makes me sad. Infact I would go to say angry :P At the end of the day we can help this game, or we can just sit here and cry about it and then Valve will shun 1.6, Source, GO and any future Counter Strike forever, therefore all communities will just continue to dwindle, prize pots will go away, as the organisers will see these games aern't supported etc, and then end up the community will be left with very little. At least GO gives everyone from each of the two communities a chance for their respective games to grown, GO will entice more players to find out more about the game they just bought, so for example, if they pick up GO, they might see 1.6 and think "well I'd like to buy that and see what it's like". Thus in turn it gives the community another fresh person, who he might then turn round and get his friends to come and play etc etc. GO won't be anything like COD anyway, because at least Valve will give it a few years to develop a community instead of getting a new title out every year :P

And I am sure a lot of players will take that opportunity. I don't know if they will do an open beta, but I know for a fact that a lot of people will try to get in a closed one if that happens. I do think it will be a miracle if this turns out to be a good game though and therefore I understand people who criticize it. They might say that they want help from the community but at the end of the day we don't really know how much that is going to affect the game. Valve could have done so many things for the CS community over the years and a lot of people won't forget that because they suddenly want some input from the community - especially considering that the stuff they have shown so far has been beyong embarrassing in a lot of people's eyes.

How can you say they are ignoring us? What they are doing right now should be considered charity. You act like we are some sort of commodity, that this small community of angry, fickle gamers will bring in the dough for Valve. There are roughly 60,000 people who still play 1.6 and another 50,000 who still play CS:S. That is chump change when you compare it to the millions that play Halo or Call of Duty. The fact that they are trying to make a game for us 60,000 people is so god damn commendable that it blows my mind that you would say they "ignore" us. Concentrating on developing Left 4 Dead/Portal/Team Fortress 2/Half-Life 2 is not ignoring us, its putting their priorities on the mainstream market and doing what they are supposed to do as a business, make money. Valve is probably one of the most charitable devs and it always blows my mind when people talk about how they are in it for $$$. Of course they are but they are also in it to make some of the best games ever. They delayed a game like Half-Life 2 for how many years? We haven't seen a single thing on Episode 3 because they don't want to rush the project and they don't want to milk the franchise. Any other dev would release a Half-Life every year or two to rake in the cash. Gabe Newell even went so far as to ask the fans what they wanted first, Portal 2 or Counter-Strike 2 and the overwhelming response was for Portal 2 so thats where priority went.

They have ignored the 1.6 community from 2003 until now in the sense that they have done nothing to fix the bugs in the game (besides those 5 minutes it took for a guy to remove the flashbugs and silentdefuse) and they have created two newer but worse versions. The numbers in CS aren't that great compared to consoles, but they are still the best on PC. I don't blame Valve for making good business decisions, I just don't think CS:GO looks like anything worth playing. Why would I believe that they will listen to - what I consider - the correct part of the community, when everything CS-related from that company has been shit since 2003? I mean, back then they even thought a shield would be a good idea for christ's sake. Who are you to say that all this "input from the community" isn't just a clever way of doing marketing? Everything about it looks horrible, so why not try and get people's interest this way - "come help us fix this shit we made". And yes, that last part was overreacting, but I hope you see my point. I am looking forward to see CS:GO in action with proper players and trying it out myself, I just don't think it will be that great.

Yes you are right, its a clever way of marketing, they dont really care for the community whatsoever, they dont care what people say or think because it's a marketing ploy, yet they can spend thousands of dollars getting players from a community to go to Seattle and try the new game and give them feedback. Valve are evil.... :|

But that is a smart thing to do. I am not saying they won't use that input but I am sure it is good marketing among hardcore fans. Activision and DICE have spent over $1 million dollars on tournaments even though their games aren't really focusing on eSports. Valve has done some amazing stuff for this industry and I don't blame them for not making a CS made 100% for eSport, I just get pretty tired of this notion that we shouldn't criticize because Valve doesn't need to make a new CS.

You should clarify that what you mean is, "As a 1.6 player who doesn't care about the competitive scene" because that is the only way I could conceive why you wouldn't care about something like Pro Mod. If you care about watching matches, watching events, playing with a varied amount of people, a growing community and new players trying the game out and old players returning then you should care about pro mod. If you don't care about any of that stuff, then great, go on your way but for those of us who want to keep playing it and want there to be competition and a varied amount of players, something like Pro Mod is necessary. If you looked at or payed attention to other competitive gaming communities you would probably realize that the 1.6 community is a joke. CS:GO and CSP are both offering these alternatives that other gaming communities would cling to. Look at the fighting game community. Street Fighter 4 is to Third Strike what CS:S is to CS 1.6 but the community knows that the game breeds competition, a new player base and sponsored events. They could easily be fickle like the 1.6 community and keep playing Third Strike, which looks like ass by comparison but plays like a dream but they don't because that path leads to a dead community and a dead game.

Why would new players try out a ProMod of a game they have never tried before? I think a new version of CS would be great, I just think we need way more than a worse copy with shitty graphics to make it interesting for new and young people. If Valve came to me with big ambitions for CS2, I would gladly jump on a plane and move there to work on it, but I will never switch to a worse game just because some part of the community think it is the right thing to do.

We are talking about ProMod and though it hasn't been released yet I fail to see how anyone can believe they will ever make it as good as 1.6 - there will most likely always be slight differences.

Are you for real? We need good graphics to attract new players, thats why I find that CSP has no chance in succeeding because their graphics are outdated already. I also think that events will get bigger sponsors (which will lead to more prize money and more competitive gaming) because people need much better pc's.

I also think that events will get bigger sponsors (which will lead to more prize money and more competitive gaming) because people need much better pc's. If people have the money to buy new computers :D Graphics aren't the necessary thing to a game. It can be very good and bla bla bla. But the game does not have any playability (or gameplay) and a good base/story it will be rejected by the most gaming communities. I still have myself playing SWAT 3, not for graphics but for the gameplay of the game. Pro Mod may have outdated grapichs but the gameplay feels good. At least it is my opinion. Some games does not needs good graphics to be successful :D And yes i'll will try CS:GO if the opportunity comes around, and if i like it i'll play it, if not i'll not buying it :D

True but a game with graphics like 1.6 issn't interresting for new players and the people who play cs1.6 are quitting/retiring so eventually it will die. I really want to make this step. It would be so much more fun when we have a really big community once again.

i've played cs since '99. I've stuck through terrible updates and even gave source a try during the CGS fail era (game is bad). right now the competitive scene is dominated by SC2,LoL etc. and 1.6 will only lose prize money and tournaments from here on out. cs:go does indeed seem terrible from the videos they have shown but we should be open minded about it if we want a competitive FPS game with huge tournaments. if cs:go fails we don't have much of a chance unless a new developer comes out with a new game that is developed for pure competitiveness (this will not happen with a mod..)

and it didn't get all these major events until it hit retail. the community and scene is not like it once was and we need a standalone game to appeal to the scrubs to keep a community alive. new players aren't going to see cspromod and want to start playing it.

And 1.6 was released in a very different time. In the early 2000 you saw quite a few mods get popular, now you don't. Now the game have to be a blockbuster of some sort to become popular.

E-sports began with Starcraft so I don't see what's wrong with it being the main figurehead to the industry. At any rate, CS:GO will probably be a failure, so CS2 (which won't be for a long time seeing as how HL3 hasn't even been released yet) is really the last hope for this game.

Why u ppl can't just admit that 1.6 is almost dead. Just look at the number of ppl on the CS streams. And for ex. look at the numer of ppl on DotA streams. Few years ago - CS > DotA and others. Now - DotA(2)/LoL/SC(2)/Even shitty Pointblank has way more viewers than CS. Here's a little example: ICSC CS1.6 has like ~1.5k - 3k viewers ICSC DotA has ~2k - 6k viewers According to Valve DOTA2 The internationals had 1 million+ viewers LoL @ Dreamhack had 200k viewers. CS is dying. Just like Quake. So just let the new CS a chance to become at least a temporary sub for 1.6. Of course Valve said that "It's NOT CS 2", but still nowadays CS needs something new.

I agree that the term dying is a stupid term. Viewing numbers are important if you want a competitive scene. Viewing numbers give you sponsors, tournaments and most likely more players, which would result in tougher competition. If you play the game because you love to play the game, then keep on playing it. But if you like 1.6 because of the scene, then give CS:GO a try. Give it a try no matter what, give some feedback and me might just get a new good CS game. Right now, CS is falling behind, and it's happening at a dangerous speed as well.
