Alternate upset fnatic 16-8

In the first match of the day, Alternate surprised fnatic with a 16-8 victory on de_nuke.

Earlier this morning, the clash between fnatic and Alternate was put on stage and the audience here at ESWC 2011 had a chance to witness the first big upset of the tournament.

With a great CT-side start on de_nuke Alternate built up a 10-2 lead, but at the end of the first half fnatic managed to pull back to 10-5.

It seemed that with those 5 rounds on the T-side, fnatic had a good result especially after somehow managing to win the pistol-round with a lot of trouble. They brought the score back to 10-8 after the anti-eco rounds, but Alternate seemed to be the better team on this occasion, as they managed to take the following six rounds and clinch an unlikely 16-8 victory over the group favorites.

After this upset, the situation in Group D certainly becomes more interesting, as mousesports and Alternate share the top spot with 6 points, while fnatic is third with 3 points from two matches.

There's no more FNATIC without Get_Right & F0rest. If the team want to be on the TOP over again they need to pick up AGAIN but as far i know if NEO & co want to join there they need to pick cArn as their team-manager or smth like that. But still fnatic = a lot of money + AGAIN = trophies.

fnatic played horrible T side. Very slow played right into Alternate's play style. Only rounds won were by luck (first two) or by pushing sites fast (last 3). There's no excuse for carn & gux performance. I think fnatic was going into the match a little blind (not watching the team's demos, scrimming against them, lack of preparation, overconfidence, etc.), which eventually was their own undoing. I don't think they have the motivation anymore to continue with as much drive as they once had. When you have already proven yourself and have been to the top of the mountain, it is very hard to want to climb it again.

Winfakt is not only a top team, but have consistently been beating other top teams. There's a big difference between them and Alternate.

They used to do that all the time when they actually had a good team, and its been a long time since then. Fnatic arent even top 4 in the world and havent been for ages, so i wouldnt expect them to come back amazingly like their teams of old (although anythings possible in cs i suppose)

I dont know the players at all and dont see how thats relevant.. im talking about the teams results over the past 6-12 months have been attrocious (by fnatics standards) and they arent a top 4 team in the world. Back a year or 2 ago they were a clear top ~2 team when they would always have poor group performances and solid playoff results. This current team has average results all around.

Based off their previous results i wouldnt say they are, no. Navi SK Again mtw are the pretty clear top4 teams atm in any given order. With winfakt/mouz/fnatic/m5 and maybe 1-2 others all fighting for that 5th spot. but either way i cant see fnatic making the final for this comp let alone getting out of groups..
