Friis MVP of DH Winter 2011

Fnatic's latest addition, Michael "Friis" Jørgensen, has won his first MVP title ever for the performance at DreamHack Winter. The experts and the public agreed that he was the best of this event, which is also reflected in the All-Star lineup, as he is the only member of the winning team in it.

MSI BEAT IT championship at DreamHack Winter 2011 ended over a month ago and we've now gathered the results from our polls regarding the MVP and the All-Star lineup of the event. Around 2600 of our users gave their opinion in the Top players article, joined with 30 opinions that we gathered from experts (players and journalists) that produced the following results.

MVP

Both sides of the vote agreed that fnatic's Michael "Friis" Jørgensen was the Most Valuable Player of the event, as he helped the team to reach first place as their best player. He fought off two other candidates who also displayed amazing performances while leading their teams to podium places, Emil "FYRR73" Karlsson from Lions and Yegor "markeloff" Markelov from Natus Vincere.

This is Jørgensen's first MVP title at a major tournament and his biggest individual success, while his influence on the fnatic team overall has been immense, as since he joined they also won IEM6 GC Guangzhou and placed second at MSI BEAT IT Russia.

The voters recognized his impact during this tournament, as in addition to being fnatic's best player overall, he stepped up when it mattered most, especially in the last map of the final.

It was de_tuscan as the decider third map between fnatic and Lions when Jørgensen let loose and started hitting amazing AWP shots, ending up with a 37:19 score (1.81 rating) in a very close 16-13 win. He also stepped up earlier in the tournament when fnatic faced another tough test against Natus Vincere in the group stage, putting up a 27:15 score (1.61 rating) in a 16-10 win, also on de_tuscan.

Additionally, he ended up as the best AWPer of the tournament with 118 kills and an impressive 0.37 awpKPR.

All-Star lineup

In addition to the three MVP candidates whose performances were high above the rest, the only Norwegian player at the event was also picked by the majority. The last place was up in the air for the most part and it ended up going to another Lions member, making the fictional lineup consist of the 5 best rated players of the tournament.

The most picked member of the All-Star lineup was the tournament's MVP and best AWPer, Michael "Friis" Jørgensen. He was the public's first choice (64%) and a close second by the experts (83%).

Experts' first choice was in fact Emil "FYRR73" Karlsson from Lions, the revelation of the tournament and the player with the most total kills. They selected him in almost every lineup (90%), while he barely made the public's list as 5th (44%).

The most consistent player of the tournament who led Natus Vincere to third place, Yegor "markeloff" Markelov, was the public's second choice with 55% and with a similar results from the experts' side (53%), he was an inevitable member of this lineup.

The fourth member is Karl-William "kalle" Haraldsen, whose team ESC Gaming didn't even make it past the quarter-final, but he managed to leave a big impression as the best rated player of the tournament after just returning back to activity.

The last spot in the All-Star lineup was a toss up between five different players, but the experts ended up deciding it should be Lions' Niklas "niko" Johansson, the most dominant player of the tournament. Only a few votes separated him from ESWC MVP Finn "karrigan" Andersen and fan favorites Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund, Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg and Filip "Neo" Kubski who all received over 40% of votes from the public.

He was definitely one of the best players and probably the only one that could in my opinion challenge FYRR73 for the M.V.P title of this tournament but like I said before, FYRR73 deserved to be the M.V.P

FYRR73 deserved the tilte, but Friis deserved it more. They don't count only the public votes. Most of the "Experts" voted for him as well. So please shut up with your FYRR73 and face the truth.

Everyone has their opinion moron, ever heard of that? Friis was the M.V.P of the finals but FYRR73 was the M.V.P of the tournament because his amazing play this tournament carried the team to the finals. Not to forget to mention is that Lions won over MUCH stronger teams than fnatic did and FYRR73 played AMAZING in all those games. Each person had 5 votes (5players), HALF of these users voted for neo and 4 else players. not undeserved... but personally I would have given the title to fyrrte, because lions played, quite unexpectedly, an incredible tournament with fyrrte making a big contribution to reach the final through one of the hardest brackets possible + he displayed an outstanding performance in the final

Comparing this line-up with the ESWC one is pretty hilarious lol As for the MVP, well, as far as i see it due to Friis 1) playing the final and 2) his outstanding performace for fnatic during those decisive rounds in order to clutch the title made him take advantage over markeloff. Maybe it would have been fairest to name Friss MVP of the Finals and markeloff of the tournament as the former was performing a bit so so before the final match.

I didn't follow FYRR73 that much honestly. In the same way I presume his "problem" is that Lions performed more as a team than anyone else maybe. Thus despite his consistency it is hard to not consider his performance more inside the team's dynamics than of him as an individual player. Whereas Friis and markeloff were more noticeable as individual players (with markeloff having the handicap of not playing the final which would have granted him the MVP if he had played as he did throughout the tournament as said). I hope you understand what I mean to say.

The title could go to either friis or fyrte but i think although fyrte destroyed the whole tournament, friis had a bigger impact on his team results. Also, because at the final friis was over fyrte imo, because they won.. I think it was deserved :)
