ESC edge SK to join Na`Vi in the final

ESC Gaming and SK Gaming played another extremely intense match in which the Polish team came out on top after 3 maps, 16-14 on de_nuke, 11-16 on de_mirage and 16-14 on de_train, which secured them a clash with Natus Vincere in the final of IEM6 World Championship.

SK Gaming and ESC Gaming met in the second semi-final of IEM6 World Championship in Hannover, in what was a repeat of the WCG 2011 grand final and also the same stage of competition at CeBIT last year. The Poles came out on top on both of those occasions, although this time SK would feature their latest addition, Martin "trace" Heldt for the first time against ESC.

The first map of the match was de_nuke where the Polish team had a promising start by winning their Terrorist side pistol-round, but it turned out it was nothing but false hope for them. After losing the next two eco rounds, SK Gaming started up their machinery and locked up the entire map, winning twelve rounds in a row. A large part in not allowing the Poles to win any buy rounds was great individual play by Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund, who racked up 19 kills.

ESC Gaming desperately needed the next pistol-round if they were to make a comeback, and they succeeded in that making their plan start to fall into place. Round by round, it was now SK who couldn't find a way to get on the scoreboard, and the Poles got very close, which prompted SK to ask for a timeout while leading 13-12.

The pause didn't help much, as ESC won the next three rounds and reached match point at 15-13. SK had one last attempt at getting something from this map, but the last round belonged to ESC Gaming who clinched an unexpected comeback win of 16-14. Similarly to Alesund's exploits in the first half, ESC was helped a lot by impressive play of Jarosław "pasha" Jarząbkowski, who had a 22-5 score in the second half.

Up next was de_mirage where the score didn't turn out so uneven, as after losing the Terrorist side pistol-round and the following semi-buy, ESC's Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas turned a 1vs3 situation into a first round for his team. He followed that up with another 1vs1 win, which propelled the Poles into an 8-4 lead. SK managed to respond with three of their own rounds and the half ended with an 8-7 scoreline.

SK won the second half pistol round and went back into the lead 10-8. At this point individual heroics went into play from their side as well, when in the first buy round Martin "trace" Heldt won a 1vs2 situation, securing his team a 12-8 advantage.

Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg was the next one to step up, when he won an even more unlikely 1vs2 to gain a 14-9 lead and break his opponents' money before the deciding round. Match point followed for SK, and even though ESC stuck in there for another two rounds, the map went to the Swedish team after a 16-11 result.

The deciding map would be de_train, on which the teams already met two days earlier in the competition's group stage, with SK coming out on top with ease 16-4. Same as then, ESC started on the CT side, but the result wouldn't go exactly the same way. Unlike when showing horrendous defense then, the Poles now seemed like a completely different team, locking up the bomb sites and winning rounds convincingly. Apart from winning one round, SK wasn't able to find another solution, so the Poles cruised to a 14-1 lead.

The match wasn't over yet though, as it was now SK's turn to defend and they started showing a similar display, not allowing their opponents more than one round for a while. In the end it all came down to the 30th round of de_train, with both teams under high pressure. ESC Gaming was the one with more composure as they finally won the round they've been chasing for a 16-14 win, which brought them the overall victory in this semi-final.

The scenario ended up being quite similar to the last season's encounter, with the Polish team winning the 3rd map 16-14, while just as then they will be meeting Natus Vincere in the final. That match is scheduled to start tomorrow at 09:10 , but before that, SK Gaming and Lions will play the 3rd place decider starting today around 16:00 .

They sure did, SK needs to practice on their teamplay, they have three of the very best players in the world and they don't reach the finals. That's bad, but ESC also played an amazing game, where trace was the only one shining when SK needed it.

Absolutely, I just think TaZ was better in the semis, Pasha got to play two awp-maps. (Mirage and Train) Lots of cred to the poles though, they're always underrated and keep winning tournies, or go to the finals. Even though Neo didn't have his best game, they still won due to TaZ and Pasha. SK needs to practice on being humble, they would've had a bigger chance winning this if they hadn't been so sure they would win it. (14-1 says it all, ESC is great, but 14-1? Come on, what the fudge)

Being totally objective i have to say polish fanboys are far worse. Whenever ESC loose you don´t really see often f0rest > neo comments vice versa you to so. As you can see majority of swedish users are just posting: what an awesome game it was!

robban did fine. they did the same strats as they did in the groupstage against ESC which resulted in a 12-3 lead. But then ESC countered it this time. And I hope you realise maybe SK didn't have time to prepare anything else as t on train, and that resulted in them having a hard time adapting to the situation.

no I answered your question. They did have stats and they DID work, but then ESC countered it, and they didn't prepare anything else. And I think you answered your own question. They didn't have much time to practice, they had to practice every map with trace, and train being one of their stronger maps probably means they didn't use most of their time on it

i'm sorry to say but i think you did not see the match. There was virtually no strat calling whatsoever. On nuke they were just getting naded on t side every round, except the one they rushed the upper site. It was not a matter of team chemistry, but instead robban just "brain froze" and didn't know what to do and how to use the 3 talented aimers that he's got

Robban doesn't know how to enter bombsite with 4 amazing players,end of story. Also quite obvious Poles have Balls to end the game at tight scores(2 times 15-14). SK will be better next time when they will have their T-side fixed.

it's not about trace only...SK had a line-up that should've easily demolished every1 even with delpan, but let's get real...robban is nowhere carn/threat's level in sweden.....he's probably one of the best fragging igls atm but strat-wise SK is not really well-equiped!

He's been fixing that T-side for over a year now! SK have always been a great CT-team since GTR/f0rest joined! It's true that they can overrun literally every team with worse aim than theirs, but they finally face some1 at their level Na`Vi/ESC, they cant walk into the site and kill everybody...with the right tactical changes (meaning robban improving his strats or eventually opening a spot for a better igl) SK would dominate 2 out of 3 events!

they have amazing T side on train. Watch their two previous matches where they crushed ESC on de_train. It is funny how people easily forget good things you do, but when you once do something bad it will be remembered forever.

why did that happen? because they were impressive in the first few gunrounds...that's the problem with SK, once their opponent gets their momentum, they dont really have an idea how to suprise the opponents, they rely heavily individual skill! My point SK losing 0-8 on T-side they just cant get a round Na`Vi/ESC losing 0-8, they'd do something amazing and break the opponents momentum! SK are a team that when they win they have to overrun their opponent, they dont have any mid-game

Well, only option for all-star team is to rely on their individual skill since that's the way they like to play. Changing their style now would surely effect on their individual skill. This game was close and it could go either way so I don't know why are you mad on RobbaN now.

pashas developement past years is simply amazing and huge boost for ESC. LUq was no were near as good as pasha is today and he keeps getting better and better each tournement.

in fact there wer times that LUq was godlike AWPer, pasha is still not on this AWP level.

What stupid statement. That man is a PRO GAMER. He does that for a living. In matches like these, he and them are writting CS history and can earn a LOT of money. Tears are simplest human emotions, like laugh, just the same. So if you can laught at loud, why should not you cry? So, no, at this level its not just a game, it soemthing that you live for and prepare for days and months. And when you lose, yes, you will cry. Maybe not publicly, but in a dark of youre room definitely. That does not make you better.

im pretty sure that other e-sport players don't cry if they can't get to final or if they lose. Or have you seen anyone expect GeT_RiGhT crying because of cs match?. Good example, im playing poker for living and i have never seen or heard about poker player who would start to cry if he can't get to final or win. And in poker we usually have much higher prizes than CS players ever have

they gave away the final @ de_nuke. But what a great display of teamplay and will to win from both sides. I think that SK will take CPH games. I can not understand one thing. When SK have changed lineup they brougt big names and they are on top. When Golden five change lineup we have no name players.... but altought then can be on the top. i remember: mirri, zibi, napalm, rulon, pionas for a while, LUQ! BEFORE playing in G5 nobody knows them.

but in poland is one good team... its sad and strange.

Incredible, even with f0rest, gtr and face, trace was the best again and by far... simply incredible. He's now the best of SK, along with f0rest. I'll believe even more in SK in the next tournaments, such an amazing addition to the team.
