ex-WinFakt eye to attend GameGune

After months of inactivity, Tomi "lurppis" Kovanen is looking for a sponsorship to attend GameGune 2012 with a team composed of members of the former Finnish WinFakt squad.

The team consists of five of the six players who represented WinFakt in 2011 as Timi "aslak" Verkkoperä will be starting his mandatory military service in early July and won't be able to participate.

According to Kovanen, the team will start practicing upon his return to Finland next week if they believe they have a reasonable chance at finding a sponsorship to attend GameGune 2012.

lurppis & co wish to attend GameGune

When asked for a reason for the return, Kovanen stated both his brother Niko "naSu" Kovanen and Samu "plastE" Aalto were eager to compete again and said he could not turn down a chance to play with four individuals he enjoys playing with.

Furthermore, he wanted to confirm that his team does indeed have a spot for the tournament, so the problem other teams have faced due to the tournament being full will not affect the squad.

ex-WinFakt for GameGune:

Finland Kimmo "BASiC" Fagerholm
Finland Jirka "jigetus" Ryhti
Finland Tomi "lurppis" Kovanen
Finland Niko "naSu" Kovanen
Finland Samu "plastE" Aalto

If you're interested in sponsoring the ex-WinFakt squad to GameGune 2012 which takes place on July 26-29 in Bilbao, Spain, you can contact Kovanen via e-mail at [email protected].

Obviously you can't read aswell. Players who represented WinFakt in 2011 !! There wasn't anyone named allu. aslak has military services therefore he can't attend. These players are fucking great, naSu is beast when he is on fire.. he had fucking 0 steam hours and demolished that shitty SK

Just matter of opinion and just because he beat SK once doesn't make the team shitty. SK can run over ex-winfakt any time of the day, while drinking coffee and eating chocolate.

Hahaha... not rly. For example SK has GeT_RiGhT and f0rest who mostly plays CS:GO but can still play 1.6 atm, Delpan is pretty inconsistent and when he isn't on fire then SK will probably lose. Stupid thing that you say while eating and drinking...

Big respect to GameGune, inviting a team with no financial backing to the event and denieng other teams which have the funds and probably more movitation than these 5 guys will ever have again. I'm not speaking about my own team not being invited, but teams like Virtus.Pro and KerchNET are getting denied for these guys apparently, and that is a damn shame.

actually we were supposed to have financial backing when we applied for our invitation over a month ago but our original plan fell through - hardly gamegune's fault. had all the teams who are now asking for an invitation already applied for one when the event was announced they would have all received one, but they didn't do so until the last minute - and for that, all they have to blame is themselves. i don't see why you would bring up our motivation but i guess you're entitled to your opinion. there will be some news soon about the second part of your message, both teams will get to attend after all :).

Good news on KerchNET and VP being able to attend! :) Not sure why you are talking about the last minute, the event is more than a month away? Can't expect everyone to apply for an invite the second they announce the event, especially since the GameGune organisation doesn't seem too fond of responding on emails. I remember last year when we found out 1 or 2 weeks before the event we could attend.. Actually I take back my words on your team then, I hope you proof me wrong about your motivation :) Still GameGune organisation could you some improvements communication-wise...

it's a month away, but you also have to realize the event wants to confirm teams as soon as possible so they can book their travel early once it's still considerably cheaper. i've learned years and years ago that you should apply for invites etc early on to avoid problems and it's something most people don't really think about it seems - for events like this, it's fairly easy and quick to send an e-mail and even ask them to hold a spot for you while you figure out your situation (which is what we did a month ago). as far as responding to e-mails goes, i've always had my e-mails answered quickly dating all the way back to the 2006 and 2007 events which i attended. can't speak for anyone else though.

it's either six, nine of twelve months depending on where you go and what you end up doing. you can do things to try to help your chances at getting what you want out of it, but at the end of the day you don't have control over how long you will have to serve.

basic will awp when necessary and my brother might bring out a secondary awp somewhere, we'll see. i don't think having an awper is always necessary, it's just how eg and winfakt played. we will play more rifle heavy with this team instead of having someone use an awp at all times.

Well tbh in Estonia you get 9 or 11 months.. depends on the time when you decide to go. I would pick 11 months even though you go in July yeah. 6 months seems confusing to me..

LOL No. Pure sniper training is only 6 months. If you become militarypolice its 9 months. If you go to officer school its 12 months. And yes you have control on how long you can serve there, unlike you say. What excuse did you give the army to skip service? "backpain?" " I have to play CS" ? :D Wishing you the best, second lieutenant mooN

That makes sense, he actually was a military police, just forgot about that detail. You have some control I'm sure, but my brother was going to be sent for the extra school to become some officer (which lasts a year) so he started missing in the shooting exercises etc on purpose to become more average so he wouldn't have to. contE wanted out of army ASAP and he was forced to become a driver there because he had a license to drive trucks. Once again, no control. I'm sure you can do little thing to try to shift things one way or another, but ultimately it's not up to you. I haven't skipped my service, not that it really matters considering how big of a joke military service is.

No, it's entirerly up to you. If you dont wanna go to officer school you say I wanna finish my school or I couldnt care less about officer school. Your brother was not going to be sent anywhere. If he was going to, he was going. Maybe they invited him to the interview but that's what the interview is for; you can say "I dont want this shit". contE probably became a driver cause he was peeing in his pants infront of the officers and didnt dare to say no firmly. I dont know what youve done with your service but you havent served for sure. 6months is easier than 13 months in civil service imo and you dont have to explain the rest of your life why you didnt go to the army :\

clearly it doesn't work that way because i have a ton of friends who have gotten stuck for longer. jigetus quit army and went to civil service because he was also going to get stuck for a year due to his driver's license, conte style. conte actually yelled at his lieutenant etc and got stuck in army for weeks without a weekend at home as a result. he definitely didn't just accept it. i don't see why you keep bringing up my army service status, seeing as it's not in any way your business, but don't worry, i'll go serve my six months soon. i've postponed it, which clearly isn't exactly a hard process. i don't see why you would have to explain anything, i guess it's one of those things you value once you've gone through it because otherwise you'd realize how big of a waste of time it was so it makes you feel better about it. besides, i don't wanna live in finland in the future anyways, but like i said, i'd rather get it over with in six months and would rather spend a year in army over 13 months in civil service. if a war broke out, i would gladly leave and find a new country to live in, a piece of land isn't worth dying for imo, especially when it's geographically in such a bad place.

I dont need to explain anything thats my point, I was talking from your view point. Doesnt matter to me. If you wanna do your service in 6 months it's easy. You just write on ALL the papers you get "I have no previous leadership skills / I am not interested in leading" or "People do not depend on me" or " People do not ask me for advice". And dont take the IQ test too seriously. And if some weird reason they still invite you to the officers interview you say my girlfriend in US is pregnant or any other bs reason. "i need to finish my degree" etc Why would contE yell at his lieutenant for becoming a driver when it's his captain that decides it, he shouldve just gone to talk with him privately. If you score well on your tests and seem like a guy that dont have any future plans they like to put you to more than 6 months :>

I'm pretty sure it's 6 months for people that don't want to receive any special training (army) and 9/12 for others! edit: Apparently lurppis explained it well, I had reloaded the page earlier and didn't see his reply ;)

well kinda like that.. its really just partially your decision if u want 6 or 9/12 months. 12 months is for truck etc drivers & leaders and 9 months for army police / medics etc things like that. and yes 6 months for "basic" training such as pioneer or infantry.

"When asked for a reason for the return, Kovanen stated both his brother Niko "naSu" Kovanen and Samu "plastE" Aalto were eager to compete again" So, plaste is related to Kovanen brothers or what? They don't share the same name, so I thought it would be cousins related or somethin.

well u misunderstood the sentence. "both of his brothers nasu & plaste" would mean 2 brothers but that means brother nasu............... and plaste

Well yeah, looks like I got misunderstood. btw off-topic, "both his brother" could also mean that there are 2 brothers besides him, am I wrong? ex : "both his parent Luke and Julie are doing something." is that a right sentence? Sorry, I'm just curious about it haha :D

imo aslak was the key to their success in the end and basic calling the strats got them even further.. hope they make some damage but i really am in doubt.

obviously the person a team's playing style relies around is the key to that squad's success. that doesn't mean it was the only way that team could have been good though. basic calling strats got them further for one event before bombing at the next one, at which point he gave up on calling. lesson: randomness pays out because teams don't know what to expect. we plan on trying to capitalize on that if we find funding.

No? Do your normal calling man, you're a beast. Randomness don't really win games. People don't understand that tournament was good only because about 4 of the squad were on fire. + Basic isn't really himself anymore, he's gone way downhill in my opinion. naSu for president I hope! Does he have a user here?

actually only aslak was on fire but he had his best tournament ever and others chipped in when necessary. in reality, if you only look at the real matches (and not group stages where everyone was +20/game), aslak was +60, allu -10 and everyone else -20 to -25 at cph games. they did well because everyone hit theirs shots at the right times to give them breaks and no one knew what to expect. we won't run around like morons, but we won't play the way i'd play with the perfect team because i don't think it's the right call here, probably more of a roccat approach. basic struggled ever since he mindfucked himself at the fnatic semi-final in guangzhou but he's been playing a lot and hopefully he'll be back to his normal self. i think they all have accounts here (can't recall usernames) but i've only seen either one post once or twice ever.

when you're used to playing really well and then have a match like he did vs fnatic (hltv.org/news/7568-fnatic-beat-winfakt-t.. ), you can't let it affect you. i think that match had a huge toll on him and he let it get into his head a little too much. it's good to be bummed, but he went a bit too far and lost some of his confidence in the process imo.

best friend Tomi, sponsorship is actually quite easy - look at the top end CoD or Source teams and they've all got loads of funding with no 1.6 team, I could actually pickout at least 5-10 orgs which would full sponsor a top end 1.6 team (more than likely not salary but all expesnes in source/cod scene for most the top1-5 in each country is quite normal) Or a few console orgs I know have a lot of funding :} which would expand their divisions just a lot of 1.6 teams only look at predominately organisation that have had 1.6teams in the past

he is, me and tomi get along like a house on fire... or not ;] but I've helped out a load of teams in the past it's only putting them in contact with the right people not really anything off my back - if you've achieved in any game it's just knowing who to contact and how to model it, like I said there is definitely a higher percentage of teams with half/full sponsorship in cod/css than in 1.6 - from experience trust me :p

i'm sure there are some organizations that could be willing to sponsor us but we have not yet approached any organizations ourselves nor am i aware of the ones that only sponsor cs:s or cod teams. would be wrong to suggest that i'm only looking at the obvious choices though, seeing as all of my organizations in the past (serious gaming, roccat, crack clan/power gaming, winfakt) were not predominantly cs organizations until my team joined them. feel free to offer advice though, as i said, i'm not aware of organizations that only support other games.

i have never deleted a post on hltv.org, just not my style. i assume someone else deleted it because it's such an obvious troll it's just trying to get some flames your way. i would love to play k1ck at gamegune, but last time i played a portuguese team we won 16-2 starting as terrorists on de_nuke (at eswc vs defs, whose win over anexis is more impressive than anything k1ck has done in 3 years), so the game might not be very interesting.

where is allu? :( i`ve seen that is winfakt 2011. well, seems like lurPISS has something with allu, because allu and H^N wanted to kick him out of the team. he should be more aware of his value as cs player and why they did that. winfakt was better with any player then lurPISS. they wanted to win, and with lurPISS was imposibru! i hope they wont get a sponsor for this event... but i`m pretty sure hltv.org will find one for them or even sponsor them. fuck this shit.

i have no interest in playing with people i find annoying, that's all. i enjoy how you spread your own bedtime stories as if they were facts but no one wanted to kick me, i skipped copenhagen games and went inactive because i didn't want to play with allu and didn't want to kick someone who was more motivated than me, especially knowing that i wouldn't be in finland for june in any case. i don't feel the need to comment on the rest of the story because clearly you lack basic understanding of cs and i'm not interested in teaching you for the sake of one argument.

just if you played cs at high level doesn't imply that you also understand the game. many did, few will be remembered. you are not one of them, so you are pretty close to my level. infact, the only thing you will be remembered for (and a big IF) is that your ex team did 2 times better in one tournament then they did with you in 2 years.

actually winfakt only existed for 8 months so i'm not sure where you're drawing the 2 years from. you clearly aren't aware of what went down from 2005 to 2010 so i wouldn't expect you to know anything. winfakt was the team i played on right before retiring, it wasn't me anywhere near close my better years :)

at this point of my career my level of play is directly related to my motivation. i played really well at e-stars and iem guangzhou but after eswc i lost a lot of motivation due to a few factors (our internet at home made it impossible to play, loss vs sk with 3x 5on2 in a row etc) so after that my level of play sucked too. i haven't played a single round since iem 6 wc which is why i know i can easily motivate myself to playing enough to be good again, i just need breaks after 8 years of attending big events. you clearly haven't been to bilbao but it isn't exactly a holiday spot, i wouldn't want to travel to bilbao with an 8 hour layover in germany if it wasn't for the competition and if i didn't think we could do something there. if we go, i'll have to take off four days of work too which adds to a pretty nice sum of money that i will miss out on (which can pay for a 1-2 week vacation), so that's not it at all.

"you clearly haven't been to bilbao" you clearly have magic powers. Bilbao is a good place to spend some time. The city has a great cultural, social and architectural importance. Holidays is not always about beach and bitches. btw, good luck to gamegune. I hope you guys can get a good sponsor and be at good shape there!

it's not a bad place, but i wouldn't travel 12 hours to get there on vacation if that was all there was to it. like i said, i also have to miss four days of work for gamegune if we get a sponsor so i will actually lose money unless we make top three. cheers

Lurppis Winfakt at Cph games were by far the best finnish performance in history. That team did so good that they shawod you and your achievement before. I dont care if they didnt won but they gave us geat cs compared to yours. Your inactiveness resulted into success for ex winfakt. And no they didnt play randomly. You are jealous of aslak the best fin player along conte, plaste and more. You are not even on My top5 finnish list. Aslak if he wants can fkin rape you any time.. I have been around since 05 and you have never been great player. Top4/3 all your teams.

two wins over good teams (who were playing at a subpar level) at a byoc lan isn't even close to the best finnish result in history. if they didn't play randomly, what might be the reason for getting demolished at their next tournament? they must have just turned to shit if it wasn't random? i never had the role of a fragger in my teams because i was the in-game leader, i'm not supposed to put up the same numbers as the people whom our play revolved around :) aslak is good, but he isn't one of the best finnish players in history, he is far too inconsistent for that.

of course he deserves to be on a finnish top team right now (and was originally gonna come with us until he decided to go to army now), but historically (if you're looking back over the last decade) he didn't play long enough, achieve enough or be consistent enough (he had great tournaments and matches that everyone remembers, but was our worst player at iem guangzhou (until the joke 3rd place decider where he boosted himself), iem new york, iem 6 wc and also at 3rd intel core challenge. one stat basic and i noticed too is at sec during the deciding map vs navi he missed 12/15 "normal" awp shots when we lost 11-16, which could have made a difference. if his career lasted longer there is a good chance he would have become a better player overall (and not to take anything away from him, he has a giant upside because of his skill level) but the inconsistency (which is directly related to how many hours he has on steam, something we refuses to recognize himself) is his main problem.

Question to lurppis: I thought you were writing some articles about your time in EG (and also in WinFakt, not sure about this though). Are they still planned or have you dropped those plans? I liked the one that was published in SK's site about 69N 28E/roccat last year.

I finished the EG article a month ago or so but I have to re-read through it, cut the boring parts and probably split it in two parts, hence the delay (I've clearly used my free time online posting on HLTV forums answering my notifications rather than working on it as you can see). If nothing else, I'll finish it next week or the week after that because I'll be at work and have nothing better to do once reddit runs dry. Expect WinFakt article to follow fairly soon after.

Nobody wants to support a team who functions on "what-I-like-to-do". Play hard for 2 months then quit for irl issues or change lineup. Really retarded. Who wants to support players like that? Ever heard of "professional" athletes who stop working out for a few months since it's not fun?

ever heard of "professional" athletes who don't get paid any salary and who are still waiting for $18,000 in prize money from 9 months ago? exactly, nice comparison. playing hard for a month is what it takes to do well at a tournament a month from now.

and for the record, that is $18,000 divided by five people, so after taxes and winfakt's share, roughly $3,000 each. besides, organizations want to test with new teams all the time, it's how most of our old organizations got started.

18k for 9 months is why you get a lawyer. All athletes who dont get salary/money are by definition amateurs.

yes, let's pay lawyers thousands of dollars so we actually receive no money out of the $18k. ok so now that we have that cleared up, why are you comparing us to professional athletes then?

thousands? more like 200dollars to get 18k isnt that bad unless you plan to hire the most expensive lawyer in Finland. Moreover, if it was my money I wouldnt mind giving 2k of 18k if the option is to not get it at all :S Well I did think you consider yourself as professional e-sports athlete. But now that I think about it maybe not. I mean, professionals get paid, they train regularly, have healthy eating habits, dont drink on tournament days, regular sleep patterns, also exercise regularly evenif your just a pro chess player. I guess you are right. Let us consider you good amateurs then with great potential. I wonder how much better you could do if you would train as professionals instead, maybe even win a big competition :>

esl will pay out the money so the other option isn't to not get it all, it's just to wait. i don't think i have ever called myself a professional, just a competitive gamer. i match the rest of the description but as long as the money is so minimal, it's impossible to put a lot of other things aside continuously, something's gotta give. ironically the only time i could have considered myself a "professional" was in eg when we were in usa where the practice conditions made it irrelevant whether or not we put more time in the game.

Picture taken from your Facebook Fan page: i50.tinypic.com/zsn2np.jpg You proclaim yourself to be a professional gamer on various of social media webs. Quote: "i don't think i have ever called myself a professional, just a competitive gamer." Sounds like your a hypocrit lurppis =) I'am very disappointed in you son :) I was not anticipating this, but I'd figure out that a guy with such personality as yours would have some double moral.
