bit: "No team is unbeatable"

HLTV.org sat down with Bruno "bit" Fukuda Lima ahead of the DreamHack Summer 2012 tournament to question him about the upcoming event and more.

This year's summer edition of DreamHack will be upon us in less than one week, gathering many of the world's best gamers of various game genres to fight for glory and prizes.

Brasil Gaming, composed of some of the very best players to have graced Brazilian Counter-Strike, are among them. The team has been spending a lot of time at the famous Inferno Online venue in Stockholm practicing for the grand event.

In-between the team's heavy practice schedule, we talked to former mibr talent Bruno "bit" Fukuda Lima, who usually carries the playArt banner, but is representing Brasil Gaming for DreamHack.

Find out how Fukuda Lima and his team has been preparing, what he thinks is required for leading a team through an event such as DreamHack and much more in this interview.

How confident are you going into the on-site qualifier for DreamHack Summer 2012?
We are confident going into this tournament because we finally have another chance to do a decent practice before a tournament. It's really nice to see how much we are improving since we arrived at Inferno-Online, this 8 days of practice will definitely make our game stronger and boost our confidence which is also a very important thing when big games comes up.
The qualifier will most likely not be a stroll through the park. Do you fear anyone in particular? (If yes: who and why?)
Everyone knows that there's no team unbeatable so we will have to play 100% if we want to go through this byoc tournament before we face the best teams in the world. To be honest I don't know too much about the teams attending BYOC. I heard eSrael wont be playing because of exams and no idea about Anexis but there will be others good teams like Virtus.Pro, zNation, a2g and so.
Not including yourselves, who else do you think are strong enough to go through to the main tournament?
As i said before i guess Virtus.Pro, zNation and a2g will be strongest opponents in BYOC.
Why have you brought along Thiago "btt" Monteiro and not your teammate Bruno "bruno" Ono?
One month ago there was a poll with the best Brazilian players so people could vote for the best line-up to represent Brasil.AMD at Handy Show Games Cup, after this tournament gaules decided to keep this line-up that won the tournament for DreamHack, so it's a different thing. playArt is our team and to play for Brasil.AMD we have to be called by gaules.
Tell us a bit about your cooperation with Brasil Gaming and their decision to send you all the way to Sweden.
Brasil Gaming was just created a few months ago but they are already one of the best organizations in the world in my opinion also AMD is doing awesome work helping with everything they need to send players to others countries and big incentive in brazil for also others games like SC2 and FIFA.  As i said it works like a national soccer team that gaules will choose who's gonna be the team that will represent the brazillian flag on tournaments, so we were called to help our country and we just accept it with big proud.
How does it feel having the support of a Brazilian legend and an experienced man like Alexandre "gAuLeS" Chiqueta? Has he helped the team in any way? (how?)
You have played together with Monteiro in different teams for years. What do you think his main qualities are?
I think that the way he plays fits really good together with fnx because both players are aggressive especially on CT sides so this is a mostly where we need to focus to get 100% of both players.
I might be getting your hopes up by asking this question... What would be your ultimate dream scenario at DreamHack? ABBA reunion on stage after you win the whole event? Being overrun by jailbait as you claim the winning round of the final? Only your imagination limits the possibilities in this question.
Hahaha that's a good question. I've been there last DH summer watching the mTw vs SK final and it was awesome to see such a big and beautiful crown even if i guess most of people will be cheering for Swedish teams or European teams, still would be a really nice feeling, unfortunately we've not been able to reach a big final like this for some years but we are working hard to be there again.
Ah, yes. DreamHack Summer 2011 did not really go your way. You were still playing under the playArt name, and your team did not pass the group stage. Did you learn anything from last year's event?
How do you feel about DreamHack focusing less and less on Counter-Strike as a tournament title?
Well most of people at moment prefer Counter-Strike 1.6 including me and CS have its own history after all these many years. We just hope that the possible next game become as perfect as CounterStrike1.6 is.
Could Counter-Strike: Global Offensive be the next game? (please share any thoughts you might have about the game, too)
You have been bootcamping at Inferno Online in Stockholm. How have your preparations been? (hours, practice etc.)
We've been putting a lot of hours on our preparation trying to start at 11 in the morning talking about strats, thinking about what we can do and discussing a lot and then practicing with teams from 15 to 00.
From a leader perspective, what traits do you think are necessary for leading a team through an event such as DreamHack?
I guess you have to be focus 100% to read the match well and call the shoots at the right time, winning pistol rounds is really important too so a mixture between good strats, read and of course getting important kills.
Is attending more events under the Brasil Gaming banner a possibility in the future?
Yes. I'm not sure about our calender from now on but we will definitely be often playing tournaments, we just have to thanks a lot our sponsors AMD and CoolerMaster for this great opportunity and show them how much we are working to make everything happen again, if we keep this working for sometime results will definitely appear sooner or later

How confident are you going into the on-site qualifier for DreamHack Summer 2012?

We are confident going into the tournament. Finally we have another chance to get some decent practice in before going into a tournament. It's really nice to see how much we've improved since we arrived at Inferno Online. These eight days of practice will definitely make our game stronger and boost our confidence, which is also a very important factor when big games are up ahead.

The qualifier will most likely not be a stroll through the park. Do you fear anyone in particular?

We all know that no team is unbeatable, but we will have to give it our 100% if we want to go through the qualifier before facing the best teams in the world. To be honest, I don't know too much about the teams who are attending the qualifier. I've heard eSrael won't be playing because of exams, and I have no idea about Anexis, but there will be other good teams like Virtus.pro, zNation, a2g.

Why have you brought along Thiago "btt" Monteiro and not your teammate Bruno "bruno" Ono?

One month ago, there was a poll wherein the top Brazilian players were listed. People could vote for the lineup they wanted to represent Brasil.AMD at Handy Show Games Cup. Following this tournament, [Alexandre "gAuLeS" Chiqueta] decided to continue with the current lineup for DreamHack Summer. This is, however, a different thing, we're still playing for playArt.

Tell us a bit about your cooperation with Brasil Gaming.

Brasil Gaming was created just a few months ago, but are in my eyes one of the best organizations in the world already. AMD is doing great work, like helping them send players to different countries, which is a big incentive for Brazilian gamers of all genres.

Alexandre "gAuLeS" Chiqueta will also be by your side at DreamHack. Can we expect to see him cheer you on in the same way Aleksander "ZeroGravity" Kokhanovsky has been seen doing for Natus Vincere?

Haha. I think that they have different roles, because gAuLeS will be trying to help us with tactics and that sort of stuff, while ZeroGravity looks like he's there to boost their motivation etc. But I can't really say for sure since I don't know him.

You have played together with Monteiro in different teams for years. What do you think his main qualities are?

Both btt and [Lincoln "fnx" Lau] are aggressive players, especially on CT sides of maps, so their plays fit together very well. This is what we will have to focus on to get 100% out of both players.

I might be getting your hopes up by asking this question... What would be your ultimate dream scenario at DreamHack? ABBA reunion on stage after you win the whole event? Being overrun by jailbait as you claim the winning round of the final? Only your imagination limits the possibilities in this question.

Haha, that's a good question. I was here for last year's DreamHack Summer, watching mTw versus SK Gaming in the final was awesome, and seeing such a big and great crowd, even though most of the audience will probably cheer for a Swedish or European team, it would definitely be a great feeling getting to play in front of them.

We have not been able to reach a big final like this for some years now, but we are working really hard to get there again.

If you do gain access to the main tournament, what group are you hoping to be entered into?

There are no opponents or group we'd choose over the other, to be honest, because both groups contain three great teams each. Right now we're hoping to reach the main tournament and play our best, at least reaching the semifinals.

How do you feel about DreamHack focusing less and less on Counter-Strike as a tournament title?

Well, most people still prefer Counter-Strike 1.6, including me, and CS has its own history after all these years. We just hope that a possible next game will become as perfect as Counter-Strike 1.6 is.

Could Counter-Strike: Global Offensive be the next game?

I can't say too much about Counter-Strike: Global Offensive because I have only played it a couple of times, and that was against bots, not real people. Let's just hope they will keep working hard to make the game better.

You have been bootcamping at Inferno Online in Stockholm. How have your preparations been?

We have been putting in a lot of hours in our preparation, trying to start at 11:00 AM to talk about tactics and such, thinking about what we can do and discussing a lot. Then we pretty much practice against teams from 15:00 until midnight.

From a leader's perspective, what traits do you think are necessary for leading a team through an event such as DreamHack?

I guess you have to be a 100% focused to read the match well and call the right shots at the right time. Winning pistol rounds is really important, too, so it's a mixture between good tactics, reading your opponent and, of course, getting crucial kills.

I am assuming what you just described will be very important in the qualifying phase, seeing how the qualifier will be played out in a best-of-one manner. How do you feel about this format?

It's hard to predict, but there are always reasons to worry about it. For instance, with this format, you know that if you make a crucial mistake, it can cost you everything and thus send you crashing. Luckily, we are confident and satisified with how things have been going so far.

How much does your game revolve around Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo's AWP play?

It depends on what maps we will be playing, just like any other team. Of course there are maps where it will be a big advantage for us having FalleN on fire, for example de_train or de_dust2, but we can still use his abilities to make a difference in situations, like, where our economic situation is rather poor, because he is really good with the Famas.

He is a big part of our team, just like [Yegor "markeloff" Markelov] is for Natus Vincere and [Marcus "Delpan" Larsson] for SK Gaming.

If Toledo does not hit his shots, can someone else step up as much as he is expected to?

We are all working really hard for this to be a great tournament for our sake, so I believe that if he does not hit any of his shots, any other player on our team will be there to help out.

Is attending more events under the Brasil Gaming banner a possibility in the future?

Yes. I'm not sure what our calendar looks like right now, but we will definitely be playing tournaments. We just have to thank our sponsors, AMD and CoolerMaster, a lot for this great opportunity and show them how much we are working to make everything go our way again. If we keep this up for some time, there will definitely be results.

Brasil Gaming's DreamHack Summer 2012 venture starts on the opening day of the enormous event, June 16, with the qualifier scheduled to start 17:00

Brasil Gaming are represented by:

Brazil Bruno "bit" Lima
Brazil Thiago "btt" monteiro
Brazil Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo
Brazil Lincoln "fnx" Lau

what about k1ck? :) I think that u cant cheer for them 'cause they don't like to play tournaments or if they like, why i never see them causing some damage in the others teams? :/ unfortunately, here in brazil, we dont have a good internet connection, so, we can play only with the brazilian teams, but in ur country, i rly think that ur team should be better, thinking that u can play with all europe anw, PT sucks, there are only 2 players that i can respect (fox and coachi), i rly like to see this kind of comment, it is always written for frustrated fanboys xDD

The title is out of context and makes it look like bit think they're a lot better than they are. "We all know that no team is unbeatable, but we will have to give it our 100% if we want to go through the qualifier before facing the best teams in the world."

GO BIT&co.!! I'm 100% sure this team will qualify at BYOC and can do a lot of damage to fnatic playing with cArn at groupstage! fnatic with karrigan is the best atm though. They can beat any team in the world, of course they would have troubles to beat a strong and trained Na`Vi and fnatic with karrigan. SK and M5 right now are low imo. Favourites for this tournament are WinFakt, ESC(Always is), fnatic and Na´Vi.

We've got one with markeloff coming up, but that one is also about the K1 league. We haven't really had much time for pre-coverage, sadly.

this is the best line up of Brazil, if they win the early rounds, especially the pistol round, has a great chance! Mandic because the team has advanced in the WCG 2011 n pq slow to enter the games if they correct this error, can repeat the damage mibr team in good times!

He didn't talk big, he said he hopes to get in the groupstage. The title is misleading. "The qualifier will most likely not be a stroll through the park. Do you fear anyone in particular? We all know that no team is unbeatable, but we will have to give it our 100% if we want to go through the qualifier before facing the best teams in the world."

I don't know if you didn't read the whole iview or if you're just dumb. This time, they're doing EXACTLY what mibr used to do: one week bootcamp at Inferno Online before the tournament. That's how mibr managed to win ESWC, Dreamhack and GameGune coming from a country that has the worst internet you could imagine, without any good teams to practice with. On the last two years they didn't have done this, that's why their level dropped so much since the golden mibr days. Now, FalleN is replacing cogu, and AMD is replacing mibr as main-rich-sponsor. I won't tell you they will win this tournament, but if they keep bootcamping like this for the next two or three big tournaments, you can expect this team to be able to repeat mibr history.

Not really, when they won Dreamhack Winter 2007, they only did ONE bootcamp with that lineup (fnx, bit, btt, cky and ton) and ending up winning the whole thing beating SK in front of their fans. This time, I think at least two, maybe three more, and they will show their A-game, I hope it's enough to get close to SK, fnatic and Na'Vi level of teamplay.

CS is a totally different game now a days man... They've crashed out of every tournament they've been in in the last few years. Get realistic, it's not gonna happen any time soon. In the future, after quite a few more lans, maybe. But it's very unlikely we'll ever see them winning international tournaments ANY time soon.

Not a disaster. They have so much more to improove untill be fighting for the 1st place. It's just a step for them. They need more bootcamps and tournaments on europe. I am expecting a rly good performance, maybe reaching the semi finals, but I dont see them winning DH right now. I think if they keep doing this schedule(bootcamp+tournament) on europe, in a space of 3 more tournaments they will fight for 1st place.

Well, they're at a big disadvantage, since they rarely attend international tournaments, compared to ESC, SK and Na'Vi. They can do some damage, and they've skilled players, but I don't see them winning this tournament. Not by a long shot. Prove me wrong, though. Good luck!

BR football and cs >>>>>> PT by far You guys are acting like this cause won against sX? Bitch pls, sX is not even top5 here in Brazil. They only have money, but they lack a lot of skill. And in football... pls no comment. Brazil is the biggest football power of history. PT is not even top5.

The gist of the interview is "no team is unbeatable" and the spirit of the Brazilian team going into the tournament is right. If that's the mentality with which BG are gonna play the qualifiers, I'm pretty sure they'll get past it. If they do, playoffs will be a big reality check though. The rest depends on their adaptability.
