ESC go through; SK knocked out
SK Gaming and ESC Gaming met in the last match of Group A, but instead of just deciding the first place as it was expected, they were fighting for the remaining playoff spot. The Poles ended up securing their place in the semi-final after a 16-12 win, while SK is knocked out of the tournament after only getting 1 point in three matches.
The Swedish and Polish giants SK Gaming and ESC Gaming had numerous battles this year, including many on de_train, so this Group A decider was set to be added to their collection of classics.
ESC Gaming got off on the harder side, as Terrorists, but they quickly built up a lead, which they kept through the most of the half.
SK's last chance to get at least a decent score before the sides changed fell through due to miscommunication in a 2-on-1 situation when they ended up not defusing the bomb, letting ESC take a 9-4 lead. Following an eco round by SK, the Swedes won the 15th round for a 10-5 deficit, with things not looking good for their tournament chances.
Things looked even worse for SK when Filip "Neo" Kubski pulled off one of his trademark pistol rounds with 4 kills, increasing ESC's lead. The Swedes still wanted to stay in the game and they did so by winning four of the next six rounds after an eco, making the score 14-9 in favor of ESC.
But then the Poles took their 15th round which meant they would certainly go through as 2nd placed in Group A, and even though SK still didn't give up, they eventually lost 16-12 and finished their tournament with a loss.
