Gux MVP of DH Summer 2012

Former fnatic member Rasmus "Gux" Ståhl has been named the Most Valuable Player of DreamHack Summer 2012 by the HLTV.org community. In his last tournament before retirement, Ståhl helped his team add another trophy to their cabinet and he won his second MVP title, thus ending his career on a very high note.

The main tournament at DreamHack Summer ended several weeks ago and the time has come for us to reveal who the MVP is and what the All-Star lineup looks like.

The selection format has been slightly altered overall, although our public vote was still held in the same way as throughout 2011, in our Top players article which gathered over 2600 votes. The change comes in the other part of the selection, as we decided to keep the expert votes internal and fewer in numbers, with the goal of taking the matter more seriously.

Therefore our expert panel on this occasion consisted of three members of our staff and an outside consultant, recent ESEA-Invite Season 11 champion Kory "semphis" Friesen. The fewer experts meant that the point system needs modification as well, but more on that near the end.

Most Valuable Player

With three very good nominees to choose from, the MVP selection process didn't produce a very convincing result, but nevertheless the outcome was never in doubt. Rasmus "Gux" Ståhl received the support of the public ahead of Michael "Friis" Jørgensen and Yegor "markeloff" Markelov with 43% of votes, and three of our four experts also chose him as the event's best.

Gux moments after defeating Na`Vi at DH Summer 2012 final

This marks the second time Ståhl has been named the Most Valuable Player of an event, after getting the same recognition last year for his performance at IEM6 Global Challenge Guangzhou. Same as then, he helped fnatic win a title by being the best fragger of the tournament (0.82 kills per round), and in addition to that he excelled in several other aspects.

His 1.26 rating was the event's second best, but his display in the playoffs was second to no one (1.22 playoff rating). Although he didn't excel in any match in particular, Ståhl was extremely consistent and he was overall the most dominant player, meaning his kills were likely more influential on round wins than other players'. He was also the best entry killer, the best rifler and the best player on the Terrorist side.

MVP of DreamHack Summer 2012:

Sweden Rasmus "Gux" Ståhl (fnatic)

All-Star lineup

The All-Star lineup selection somewhat reflects the domination of fnatic at DreamHack, as four of their members are included with the only outsider coming from second placed Natus Vincere.

All-star lineup of DreamHack Summer 2012:

Sweden Rasmus "Gux" Ståhl (fnatic)
Sweden Andreas "MODDII" Fridh (fnatic)
Denmark Michael "Friis" Jørgensen (fnatic)
Ukraine Yegor "markeloff" Markelov (Na`Vi)
Sweden Richard "Xizt" Landström (fnatic)

The MVP, Rasmus "Gux" Ståhl, is also the leading pick for the All-Star lineup, ahead of his teammate and MVP nominee Michael "Friis" Jørgensen, who ended up as the best rated player of the event.

The event's second best fragger, Andreas "MODDII" Fridh was also deemed an important part of fnatic's machinery, and so was their in-game leader Richard "Xizt" Landström who particularly shined in the semi-final against ESC Gaming.

The final member of the All-Star lineup comes from second placed Natus Vincere, and it is their star player Yegor "markeloff" Markelov. He accumulated the most kills of all players and was the best AWPer of the tournament.

Poll results

Due to deciding to make the expert vote include only a handful of people who would take the selection more seriously than most of the previous experts, we had to alter the way results are processed. That means that from now on each expert's vote will account for 10% of the total result, while the public vote's influence will be adjusted accordingly.

To make things easier to interpret, we will introduce a point system, where a player can receive a maximum of 100 points from both sides of the vote in total. That means that each expert's vote counts for 10 points, while public's votes will, on this occasion, amount to a maximum of 60 points.

Results of the MVP poll:

Player Public Experts Total
Sweden Rasmus "Gux" Ståhl (fnatic) 26 30 56
Denmark Michael "Friis" Jørgensen (fnatic) 21 10 31
Ukraine Yegor "markeloff" Markelov (Na`Vi) 13 0 13

Results of the All-Star poll:

Player Public Experts Total
Sweden Rasmus "Gux" Ståhl (fnatic) 45 40 85
Sweden Andreas "MODDII" Fridh (fnatic) 40 40 80
Denmark Michael "Friis" Jørgensen (fnatic) 46 30 76
Ukraine Yegor "markeloff" Markelov (Na`Vi) 35 40 75
Sweden Richard "Xizt" Landström (fnatic)
31 20 51
Sweden Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg (SK) 23 10 33
Denmark Finn "karrigan" Andersen (fnatic) 31 0 31
Russia Alexey "LeX" Kolesnikov (Virtus.pro) 16 10 26
Russia Dmitry "hooch" Bogdanov (Virtus.pro)
11 10 21
Ukraine Sergey "starix" Ischuk (Na`Vi) 12 0 12
Russia Mihail "Dosia" Stolyarov (M5) 9 0 9

Stay tuned to HLTV.org as the next major tournament, GameGune, is approaching, and soon upon its end we will bring you another vote where we will together pick the MVP and All-Star lineup.

f0rest and a guy like gux is natural born raw gamingtalents. Navi CS 1.6 is more like a Cristiano Ronaldo-history, mostly a result of training products that in comparison worked very very very hard to reach a place among the bests.

He never got the fame like gtr back then but his skill was regocniced among the audience. He was underrated no doubt but his skills in entries were noticed at least :) A key member for both fnatic and SK, that's something only a few can ever accomplish

Would you make your argument for why Friis should be MVP? Here is mine for Gux: He had the most kills on fnatic, best KPR at the lan, best playoff rating at the lan (compared to friis' big matches which came vs. low teams in the group stage that fnatic would have won anyway).

Nope he was simply better overall than all players.. the best entry killer, the best rifler and the best player on the Terrorist side the 2nd best rating, best rated player in playoffs, the most dominant player, and his frags were all important.
