No Counter-Strike at WEM 2012

Regardless of earlier rumours of World E-Sports Masters 2012 including Counter-Strike 1.6, the event has announced StarCraft 2 and League of Legends as the only official titles.

World E-Sports Masters or WEM, formerly known as World E-Sports Games or WEG in the earlier seasons, has been supporting Counter-Strike 1.6 since its inaugural season in the beginning of 2005.

WEG started as a league lasting up to two months in Seoul, but as WEM was reduced to a week's length in China. Now due to a smaller amount of sponsor money, the event will be ran in three days and can only feature two game titles.

WEM 2010 was the last event to feature Counter-Strike for now

According to PCgames.cn, WEM organizers stated that due to many CS 1.6 teams retiring or switching to CS:GO, it would have been impossible to invite eight top teams for a season, which ultimately led to CS 1.6 not being included as a title.

this. when source appeared 1.6 still had good prize money and enough people watching it, from what i remember the scene was not so weak like it was this time before cs:go. so either cs:go or no more cs in big tourneys.my opinion:D

How smart, better remove CS1.6 from all tournaments games list so organisations will try to pay salaries for not playing games. HELLO?!

LoL, CS:GO has only 16k playing for the last 2 days, that's the worst record I've ever seen for a new game, even single player games had more players for a longer time. 70,409 70,409 Dota 2 56,914 56,914 Team Fortress 2 38,117 38,117 Counter-Strike 31,287 31,287 Football Manager 2012 26,308 26,308 Counter-Strike: Source 22,183 22,183 Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 - Multiplayer 17,971 17,971 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim 16,992 16,992 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive 15,222 15,222 Sid Meier's Civilization V 6,091 6,091 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Multiplayer store.steampowered.com/stats/

So why do you watch it then? I don't get it. You hate on CS:GO every day but it won't change anything anyways. Pro/semi pro players are maybe 1-2% or even less from the steam stats it doesn't matter if it's DotA, Cs 1.6, CSS or CS:GO.

but it wasn't a competitive game, it was focused on pub players and pretty much died as a casual game. exactly the same is happening with CS:GO, thats why you don't see more people playing.

who will watch the pro players play? other pro players? you need a community of all kind of players and for that the game needs to greatly improve and soon. CSS failed because it was a casualized version of 1.6, we have to avoid that with CS:GO or else it won't succeed. people wants a FPS game with a high skill ceiling, exactly like 1.6 is.

Wall of text inc.. funny that both source and 1.6 got more players playing than csgo according to steam stats, and dont whine about that it's a new game.. when skyrim was released, it had around 200thousand players playing for a month after release, while csgo got less than 20000 players playing half a month after its release?? And dont whine that Skyrim had a bigger fanbase, you know 1.6 and source was two of the most popular fps games ever made! so the pro teams failed a bit when switching to csgo! csgo was one of if not the bigges fail by valve to this day! attack me grammar nazis!

By improving I believe he means that CS:GO should've been based on 1.6, which would definitely have made it more popular. SC2 and Dota 2 are great examples. And yes, even though a lot of people still think SC:BW and Dota 1 are better, most of them still like SC2 and Dota 2.

Some people forgot what Counter Strike is if they want everything to be exactly as 1.6. That would be a waste of time and money

csgo aims at beginners who heard "cs" and played for 1 or 2 times.the crowd is really big and valve knows they can earn much money.that is why they dont copy cs1.6 but creat a new game. valve will get money but ruin "cs". yeah, they don't care.

The only thing that would ruin Counter Strike is 1.6. Valve are doing the best they can to make a game with a different experience to play it

If I understood right, it was supposed to be a game that would unite the previous CS communities. But that didn't happen. It just made things worse.

It will improve during time. And tournaments witch every week are more, wouldn't even pick the game if it would be bad

They already had 50k, seems to me like 35 thousand out of those 50 didn't like the game enough to play it more than a few hours :D...

step one : ruined by source. step two : ruined by global offensive. valve is not uniting, what they were doing in the last few years is trying to make a easier game(more beginners to come)with better graphic quality(associate with hardware company for money). technic is shit.if they provide high reward for Minesweeper.people will also come to "compete".
