NBK: "I don't know what happened"

We interviewed VeryGames longtime member Nathan "NBK" Schmitt after his team's shock 15-15 draw against ASES and asked the 18-year-old what went wrong in that game.

The French team got off to a flying start at DreamHack Valencia, conceding just three rounds in the first two matches, but then looked way off the pace against ASES and were made to work hard to secure a draw, which still leaves them at the top of Group B.

In this interview, Schmitt comments on the result against ASES, the team's sniper-oriented strategy and also NiP manager Emil "HeatoN" Christensen's comments made on Friday about the two sides' chances in the tournament.

Your team won the first two games very easily, but were held to a draw against ASES. Is nuke a bad map for you, were you overconfident or were you saving strats because NiP’s players were watching the game behind you?

We played the match as best as we could. We did not care that NiP were behind us, we just played our game. We had already practiced against ASES, so we knew about their level, especially on de_nuke. I do not really know what happened. It was probably because of the individual performance of some players, including myself. We are really satisfied with our performances in the first two matches, but we struggled against ASES. But even that match showed that we have the experience to come back. So we are pretty satisfied with our overall performance.

I noticed that sometimes three of your players used the AWP, which is not very common amongst 1.6 teams. Do you think that this strategy will be an advantage in the first tournaments?

Actually, I think it will not only be in the first tournaments. We have four snipers on the team, and on some maps against certain teams it will be very interesting because it gives an advantage in long range over players who use rifles. Right now, few people master the AWP, so it is an advantage for us.

Yesterday, NiP’s manager Emil "HeatoN" Christensen said he thinks his team can beat yours. What is your opinion about his comments?

I think he should not be so quick to talk. We are still a good team and we are expecting some good games against NiP. We practiced against them like once or twice, but we had just started playing the game, so we were not very good at the time, but I think we have the strategies and the skill to overcome them.

Last weekend, you attended a CS:Source tournament. How did you prepare for DreamHack Valencia, considering you also had to play at that CS:S event?

We knew the teams who were going to the tournament, so we did not really practice for it and we did not play Source before the event. We just practiced CS:GO throughout the LAN.

and VG have been playing Sauce for years, and usually VG fans say VG is better than NiP exactly because of this fact. Remeber, both GO and Source have the same engine. (I'm not saying its exactly the same thing)

They played only 1 LAN tournament that VeryGames didn't attend cuz of CS:S LAN tournament at the same time. Just because the news about verygames switching for cs:go comes some weeks ago it doesnt mean they didnt play cs:go before that news. NiP didn't practice so much for this tournament cuz of Xizt's vacation and believe me as 1.6 player I can say that ALL OF US need a lot more time to deal with the game than CS:S players. (delay of switching guns,nades; not haxing all the walls, etc.) Both of the teams have same start, but I do believe that NiP is the strongest team and if im right don't try to excuse verygames for losing just because NiP got 1 cs:go lan tournament behind their back. In this point we can say that verygames had their team (teamplay) for a long time and NiP is a pretty new team.. which also sound to me like an excuse :D I hope for a great final and I do cheer for NiP *\o/*

cadred is long dead. Even the sAucers are all here in HLTV.org, because this is the place where CS happens. When HLTV.org decided to cover CS:GO, they killed cadred, period. Btw, HLTV.org is covering this event on site, with their usual top of the hill quality coverage. cadred is just doing their online reporting and bad coverage as usual, there is no comparison, HLTV.org is just the best in this business.

Yeah, they did focus on that but since newer titles came out I assume they had higher priorities, they'd be stupid to not cover LoL/SC2. Obviously they still do cover CS:GO and they are 50/50 when it comes to news posts, I assume HLTV would win at event coverage

I would rather read 50 comments of genuine English than "OMG CS:GO LOL" "Stupid sAucers haha!" 300 times written by a general 3rd world userbase. Just because they don't have the same numbers as HLTV doesn't mean their coverage or articles are any worse, I have no doubt that Gonzo can write 10x better than the writers here, obviously with no disrespect, I don't agree with how he generally acts but he is a damn good writer/journalist, and he is doing his job well if he provokes a response

HLTVorg is a news website, they are not here to write long-ass articles about their opinions, they are focused on informing us, the users. From what I have seen Cadred is mostly biased, I wouldn't call that shit 'journalism'. Also HLTVorg has mainly users from Europe (mainly 1st world countries), just take a look at the users flags and you will notice a huge difference between the amount of latinamerican/south east asian/african users and the amount of european users.

I hope VG will become a top team in CS:GO and beat NIP asses in this tournament.

I've always browsed this site for news..even though I played source. I enjoyed reading/watching 1.6 events. The whole time nothing but 1.6 > every other fucking game comments...for years. Now it's "saucer" this and "saucer" that and how csgo sucks in every other comment. It's getting really old. And "saucer" excuses....he was stating in the article that they have been practicing for what..a month compared to a team who has been playing for 3-4 months + way more per day...not really an excuse. Just facts.

Don't try and reason with the regular hltv commentators, it's fruitless and a waste of time. Just skip the comments like I try(and fail) to do.
