SLAP LIVE #26 cancelled

The organizers behind SLAP LIVE #26 have announced that the event has been cancelled. The cancellation of the event is based on the Gadgets & Games exhibition being cancelled, which means SLAP LIVE #26 has no venue and too short notice to find a new one.

SLAP LIVE #26 was announced to feature a €10,000 CS:GO tournament, as well as tournaments in other game titles, a part of the Gadgets & Games exhibition at in Fredericia, Denmark.

The signup list for the event has been far from impressive, teams have been gunning for a spot at ESWC's 2012 event, which takes place November 2-4, colliding with the Danish events.

The organizers of SLAP LIVE #26 today released the news that there will be no event in the first weekend of November. The cancellation of not only SLAP LIVE #26, but also the Gadgets & Games exhibition is explained in the statement below.

"One of the worst things that can happen for organizers is to cancel an announced event – it is a huge disappointment for us, for our crew and of course for all the people wanting to participate in SLAP LIVE.

The situation is even worse when an event outside of our control provokes the cancellation; unfortunately this is exactly what has happened yesterday. The organizer of the trade fair section of G&G Expo have at the very last minute decided that their sales of booths for the trade fair is unsatisfactory. They have because of that cancelled all activities planned in connection with G&G Expo. Unfortunately they are also the administrators of our venue for SLAP LIVE and this means that this round of SLAP LIVE is left homeless. This is of course a huge blow to us as organizers as well as for the SLAP organization.

All participants that have already bought a ticket, will of course receive a full refund.

It is no secret that our own signups have not been impressive and probably some of the lowest we have ever seen for a SLAP LIVE event. However, make no mistake it was our absolute decision to push through with SLAP LIVE, even with a lower number of participants. We have over the last couple of years focused a lot of our attention on Copenhagen Games and we feel that we have accomplished a lot of what we set out to do during the Easter holidays.

The dreadful truth is that we only have so many resources, time and money to organize events; especially since it is done solely by volunteers in their free time. So as Copenhagen Games took up more and more resources, we regrettably neglected SLAP LIVE, our loyal crew, our own origin story and you, the participants that has tirelessly supported us through the years.

As frustrating as a cancellation is, this is also a wakeup call for us – for SLAP LIVE. The scene has changed over the years and while Copenhagen Games is at full speed, SLAP LIVE has been falling behind.

First and foremost we hope to see you all at Copenhagen Games 2013, which will be the best yet.
Secondly this is not the last straw for SLAP LIVE, it’s a bump in road but we will be back next year with a SLAP LIVE that can meet everyone’s expectations.

Sincerely,
The SLAP Administration"

The organizers will now put their focus on the upcoming Copenhagen Games event in 2013, once again taking place in Copenhagen's Øksne Hallen venue, running March 27-31.

depends on how you describe dying. On the competitive side companies invest in it. From the community side its getting smaller. In the competitive scene there is no place for more than 1000players anyway

more sponsors = more tourneys, larger prize pools = more players playing to win that money

Before all of that you actually need a solid player base.

which will come once the game solidifies itself in tournaments and series, so fanboys can start playing it after seeing their favourite player in so and so event.

actually its fairly obvious, look already at all the NiP and ESC fans, when other teams like fnatic and navi if they stick to it and commit like they did with 1.6.

Just because the fan base has increased doesn't means the player base or viewership numbers will also grow.

a game has to be fun and played hard by a huge number of players, after that comes the competitive side.

yes. but then, no quality game = people stoped played = cs:go isn't even on top10 anymore = sponsors will soon realise it's a waste of money = cs:go deaded

and i repeat myself "In the competitive scene there is no place for more than 1000players anyway" Do you think 32million of these 33million LoL players ever earned money with their game? No they play it for fun. And you dont see that amount of players growing in CS:GO Did you ever saw a tourney with more than 1000 cs:go players? Your simple math does not work everytime. The place for competitive teams earning money is already sold out. SK as an example sits on the save side and invest nothing into that hype. Its a matter of time. If your simple math does not pay off you will see another example turning around. Less players = Less sponsors = Less prize pot = Less tourneys. I mean you have to kinda agree cs 1.6 is going down so what do the tourament organizers? They get a good replacement. Now time will tell how good that replacement was if sponsors realise their view count wont get above 10k The history showed that sponsors always pay for players/viewers. And in the end you can not blame the 1.6 players that they didnt switched to cs:go

your logic doesnt work at all if the only thing that drives a scene is players then why are there no 1.6 tourneys anymore? the 1.6 scene only had really 200ish actual pros the rest were people who played for fun. just like every other esport whos blaming the 1.6 players? the whole point of csgo is to bring in people who didnt already play 1.6/source. you seem to have put a very large importance into people caring what the 1.6 community did. valve invited 1.6 and source pros to test out the game and help develop it. at first they all said theyd never play it. but here we are 6 months later and most of the big teams have already switched over.

1. because cs:go was released and the view count was now enough for IEM so they dropped it and after that other orgs followed their move. 2. store.steampowered.com/stats/ Yeah you see how many 1.6 players are still playing it for "fun" 3.As you said the so called 200ish actual pros switched because its their income. You dont see tons of new players in there. Which logic does make sense now?

pubbers=/competitive scene. the fact that 1.6 still has all those players means nothing. the number of people playing the game has less effect on the number watching than you might think. not everyone who saw the vg vs nip final actually owned or ever tried csgo

and not everyone who owned the game watched the match nip vs vg. No shit bro. And just because you play esl or 5on5 matches doesnt mean you are a pro. competitive hmm depends. Competitive in the way of the pro scene where they earn money? Not every pubber plays in leagues. Or is every competitive player a pro just because he plays in a 5on5 league? Ever thought what competitive means? Competitive = Pro Because he can play on the top level with others. You can not say that about any random 5on5 team player Competitive is competitive and pub players are pub players just like amateur players. For the ones that play on a decent level in leagues you call them semi pro. I mean how long have you been into the scene? i guess years. Why the hell do i have to explain that to you

no, competitive means that they compete at something. it doesnt mean you are a pro. someone who is a competitive football player might just be playing in leagues on the weekends and not a professional.

more or less true. But it would mean in my sense he would earn money if it. But its true. Just competitive on a low or mid level true. But then you could really say everyone is competitive even thought hes the worst because there is always someone better and worse than you. Even in random leagues. Okay from the prospective. The word might even lose the meaning if everyone is competitive :D

Most of the time the guys who ask silly question like: are you stupid? is he? Are the guys with lower end because they dont have any valid point and ask/point out stuff like that. Thank you for proving my point once again.
