GeT_RiGhT: "We will cope with defeat"
In our third pre-DreamHack Winter, we pick the brain of Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund, who plays for ESWC champions Ninjas in Pyjamas.
Following our interviews with ESC Gaming's Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas and 3DMAX's Tomas "xlo" Falden, is now time to take a look at NiP, who are widely regarded as favourites to win the title after coming out on top at DreamHack Valencia and ESWC.
The Swedish giants have been draw in what is called the Group of Death, together with ESC Gaming, mousesports and fnatic.
In this interview, Alesund discusses NiP's preparations for DreamHack, his expectations about the tournament and also how his ear infection, which will force him to undergo surgery, has affected him, among other topics.
You enter DreamHack Winter as the team to beat, having won the Valencia qualifier and also the ESWC finals. Is that an extra source of pressure for the team?
Hello, Mira, thanks for having me, first of all! Ehm, I am not sure. A little bit? I am not that worried, if you ask me. It is going to just be nice to play on home soil!
How have you prepared for DreamHack? Have you bootcamped or only practiced online? Do you feel ready for the competition?
We have both played online and bootcamped. We have been playing like we did in the last bootcamp and trying to focus on getting on form. We are looking at small things that we may need to change and also coming up with new strats that people cannot be ready for!
You have been drawn in a very difficult group, with mousesports, ESC Gaming and fnatic. Are you confident you will be able to get three victories?
I never like to talk about things like being top three or that we are going to win the competition, for example. I am just trying to stay focused and get my skill on top to be ready to play well, instead of making a disaster for myself or my team! I am just looking forward to playing at DHW and I hope it will be a nice show for everyone spectating, including those who will be Jönköping watching the games live!

GeT_RiGhT with NiP at ESWC
NiP have not yet lost a single match on LAN yet. Do you agree with the notion that your team is onestep above the rest?
I am not sure about this, we just put in the hours that are needed to be good (like myself, I need to train a lot to be happy with myself before a tournament) and try to be in a good mood before the games to be successful! I am just happy that people can give us that credit, but we really do not think about it.
Do you believe that the team will be mentally strong enough to cope with their first LAN defeat, when it eventually happens?
I am pretty sure that we will be, yes. We have been losing online games and we have different opinions about why we lose, etc. I am just hoping that it will not happen for a while... For a long time!
Are you afraid that, with GOTV and demos now available, other teams will study your tactics and anti-strat you?
Not really, as I think our gameplay is more 'random' than people think, or maybe it is just me just thinking that! We will see if I will change my mind soon about that or not.
Just days before the tournament, Valve released an update which nerfed the Molotovs. Are you happy with this change? Do you think it will modify the way that teams will play?
I am happy for the rest of people who dislike this nade, but I do not really have any opinion about this. In my opinion, I did not think it was that annoying, only sometimes. But I think it is good that they have removed the slowing down thing on it, as that was one of the few annoying things about it!
Recently, Xizt replaced Fifflaren as the team’s in-game leader. Was that the plan all along, or do you think that there was something missing?
It was not the plan all along, we just felt that it was needed and it has been good for us. I am not sure if there was something missing before, it was just something between the guys in the team and we all just agreed on it. I think fifflaren did an excellent job doing the strats and everyone thinks the same. We just felt this was a "little" better and hope that no one is disagreeing on this!

Will NiP win another international title?
Fifflaren has the worst individual record of the team (1.11 Rating). Is he worried about the way he has been doing, considering he is no longer the in-game leader?
I do not think so. I know that he was the in-game leader for a long time in CS:S when he played that game, so maybe it takes time for him to relax and not need to think about tactics like before! He is still helping Richard with small things, though. I just hope he does not think that much about it, so that he can play at his maximum level!
Recently, pita said that he believes you are the most over-rated player of all time and that you only play for yourself because you are too worried about statistics. What do you have to say about this?
People have different playing styles and my team has been giving me the opportunity to lurk around, to do my own thing, so to speak. He can say whatever he thinks, it is his own opinion and he has the right to say it. But it is not like his comments will make me quit or something like that.
You recently revealed that you will undergo surgery because of an ear infection. How badly has this problem been affecting your game these past few months?
These have been some annoying months. As far as my volume ingame and my hearing in real life go, it has been hard for me. I just remember that it was really painful when I played at DreamHack Summer (last tournament with SK), it was really hard for me to play... Also the SteelSeries tournament at IOS, as I took my medicine when it even worse, as I had lost some of my hearing then, so applying the medicine in my ear... It is kind of hard to explain the whole situation, and I just hope that with surgery my headaches will be gone, my hearing will go back to normal and last but not least... I can take a normal shower without a "shower hat" :-p
Until the end of the year, what other events are on the team’s calendar?
We will try to attend as many tournaments as possible until my surgery. This means MindSports in Prague, Thor Open (if we qualify) and NorthCon. Then we will go on holiday, which everyone needs, as Christmas and New Year's Eve are coming closer and closer! Another note: I would like to thank my sponsors, Telia, SteelSeries, CDON and BenQ for providing all the things we need, and my friends, girlfriend, family and my beloved managers (HeatoN, Niklas and Anton Budak).
