mTw confirm shutdown

mTw, one of the oldest and most successful organisations in esports, have officially confirmed that they have closed their doors.

The German organisation had been tipped to cease all operations since it was reported that they were battling financial problems, which resulted in their CS:GO squad going freelance.

mTw have now confirmed via their website that they have decided to shut down the organisation, putting an end to an illustrious 15 years in esports.

"We regret to announce that mTw will be closed after 15 successful years," an mTw statement read. "In recent weeks, we had found that the business model for eSports organisations was no longer viable in its long-standing form.

"Under these circumstances, and combined with the lack of a stable economy, it was no longer possible. Therefore, we have decided to end this chapter for mTw. If and when the next chapter is written, is still unknown.

"Once again, we guarantee that if a sustainable existence is possible and if we can give our teams the support they need, mTw will be back.

"Until then, we would like to wish our former teams and partners all the best on their way forward and to thank our fans who made mortal teamwork so special over so many years."

One of the first German organisations to support Counter-Strike, mTw had back in 2002 a highly-successful Swedish team who featured the likes of Abdisamad "SpawN" Mohamed, Michael "ahl" Korduner and Christer "fisker" Eriksson.

After the Swedish players decided to play under the name team9, mTw decided to focus on the German CS market, until 2007, when the organisation merged with NoA and brought the ESWC runners-up on board.

mTw.dk were one of the strongest teams in 1.6 history

The Danish team enjoyed a dominant year of 2008 under mTw's banner, winning tournaments like the KODE5 Global Finals, ESWC Masters Paris, the World e-Sports Masters and the World Cyber Games.

In November 2011, mTw decided to release the Danish team after supporting it for almost four years as they struggled to find a stable lineup following the retirement of Alexander "ave" Holdt.

When CS:GO was released, mTw's highly-successful CS:Source division switched to the new game, but constant roster changes and a series of mixed results made the team take a break from all competitions to find some much-needed stability.

After picking up Andreas "MODDII" Fridh and Lasse "stingeR" Midstue, the team decided to part company with mTw, and are currently known as Torqued until they find a new organisation to represent.

RIP mTw. Will never forget when the CS ger team won LAN Arena 7 waaay back in the day. So many good teams and matches. Also didnt roman ausserdorfer really make a name for himself when he was picked up by mTw. Sad to see a team with so much history shut down like this.

wow, someone here remembers LAN Arena 7 :) that was a great time. roman became well-known with DkH (and to some part with Team64.AMD). At least in Germany. Then he played for mTw.ATI, a-Loser.MSI, Alternate aTTax, TBH.MSI, Mousesports, ... lol he was in almost every good German CS clan.

I think CS:GO killed the fps e-sport really. It has no future. It just feels like a quick bad solution which will not keep the length that 1.6 did. Players quit, organisations quit and I can't feel the hype before a tournament in these days.

Just no, mTw had other games they had been supporting, the reason behind it was due to the sponsorships that they had built originally had pulled out and/or come to an end. Thus why the statement has cited issues with how eSports organisations are run and how they depend on sponsorships to make them at least sustainable. If CSGO was the killer they would have cut the CSGO division and continued with DotA2 only. That would have been the ideal solution.

Counter Strike was also very unstable, it was only the last years in the Counterstrike 1.6 history, that the scene was very stable. Before that you saw clans closing and ppl leaving all the time - especially in Denmark but also in Sweden.

I'm so going to miss mTw.dk, they were the reason I had so much hope for the Danish scene for so many years. We've had so many teams and so many players in all 3 CS scenes, I don't know about source but mTw had the biggest impact on the Danish scene. Ever since 2008 I always hoped that one day a Danish team will be number 1 again, even though it never happened until 2012 with fnatic (barely, and the scene was already half dead; and they weren't fully Danish). I hope that one day that will change.

really sad news, this organization was created when the e-sport became really serious and now after 15 years they dissapear... nowadays are lot of games, but still... CSGO killed 1.6 and source and now they realized it was a bad move... players quitting, organizations quitting, and we have the same thing like last months in 1.6... everybody has complaining before tournament: ''ye ye SK will won, polish guys will won'' and so on. community players were bored watching 3 teams fighting for 3 places because no others can beat them... and now? what is happening right now in CSGO?... im not following it but i know NIP is unbeatable team... organizations trying to mix up source and 1.6 players (dont know why) and they destroying both communities, and result?... make your own opinion..

Yeah, now we got a game that is flamed as hell, it doesn't get half of the viewers that 1.6 had, prize money is low, many big players and teams retired when CSGO appeared, many big events that we had with 1.6 are gone now. That was the most idiotic move in e-sports history: replacing 1.6 with CSGO. In the end it's all valves fault when they decided to create new CS games that are supposed to compete with games like COD or BF instead of upgrading 1.6 with all the things that MOBA games of today have and so on. They could have made the biggest e-sports game ever but the problem is that they have no clue at all about this stuff. People who think that CSGO was good for the scene need to think more in details.

The players aren't the one to quit, it's the manager and the crew above because they lose sponsors and their budget isn't what it use to be. CS:GO didn't killed 1.6. To be fair, it's the model that they tried to sustain which was by far implausible. They forgot they are a esports organization and more of a football club, the cs go squad had members so many various countries. Getting steel to fly down from Canada,moddi from Sweden, HudzG from the UK, nooky from Germany and various others. Plus they had a 5,000 pound buyout clause for the time they signed weber in Source. To top it off, they signed tweedayy to make their movies. They were not realistic and this happened to them, should be a lesson for all organizations.
