No Counter-Strike at WCG 2013

The World Cyber Games (WCG) committee has released the list of games that will be played at the 2013 event, with Counter-Strike a notable absentee.

Back in April, the WCG released a promotional video about this year's event, automatically leading to all sorts of speculation about which games would be played.

After Counter-Strike Online was played as a promotional game in 2012, with TyLoo coming out on top, it has now been confirmed that neither CSO nor CS:GO will grace the stage this year.

ESC won the last WCG event with 1.6

WCG 2013 will run from November 28th to December 1st in Kunshan - the same location of last year's event - as part of a two-year deal reached in 2011 with the Chinese city, which is located inside the greater Suzhou region.

In CS you can be owned by 15 y.o. whose spinal cord is younger than yours. WoT is CS for mature auditory, whose hormones have calmed down. If you think, that you can win standing in a bush - you're wrong. Personally I prefer rushing from the first minute of a battle, however I have 65% W/L and 1900 efficiency overall. And I feel that 12 years of CS experience helps a lot. But competitive WoT is so BORING to watch. It definitely needs attack-defence mode to prevent 10-minute standing on the positions.

Crossfire is one of the worst fps that ever existed. Everything is bad in that game, you have to buy weapons with real money, the servers are always going down,the hitboxs of the player models are really buged, there're many OP weapons that are have really stupid skins (like pink weapons,gold,blue,weapons with flowers e.t.c) The community of crossfire is really bad, kiddos screaming NOOB QQ and then they start a vote to kick you... The delay in game is so big that you can actually die behind a wall that CANNOT be wallbanged. TL:DR Crossfire is a game with lot of bugs and shouldn't be on the WCG list.

While most of what you said is true, on LAN the game is far more enjoyable. No delay in game, no OP weapons due to the ruleset and you have the weapons you need. Also, it's the most popular f2p game available atm and a HUGE deal in China. Btw, you don't HAVE to spend real money to have guns, it's just easier to, if you don't want to spend much time leveling up your account.

I have friend that are inside the Competitive CF scene so IK how crossfire is in lan tours. But look, the movement of crossfire and the in game skill of that game is so random that It's impossible for me to even enjoy 5min of that game. But still, the z8games doesn't give a f#ck to improve in game errors and continue to make updates in the game only with new weapons. That game is broken, the acceleration amont on the game is premade and you CANNOT change it. You can change your sensibility but NOT you ACCELERATION, I mean Wtf? That game gives you no freedom to play and enjoy that "thing" that is considered a FPS.

I agree, the acceleration thing bothers me aswell (talking as a competitive CF player). You gotta keep in mind that it's a free to play game and if the devs have the chance to make money, they will do it. Since the game is being successful, they won't change it. About the movement, I fine with it, it has it's own style. The game skill is not that random, because you can say that the better players are the ones that adapted better to the flaws of the game.

Is it really playable on LAN? I mean, I played on the US Servers 2-3 years ago. Started a while back here in EU. The game is unplayable if you are used to ''real physics created with a decend code''. The recoil is broken The community is worse than MOBA games Movement is just terrible Animations is meh.. These are things that will never change. I believe it's playable on LAN since the major factors that make the game shitty are gone there. The recoil isn't broken, it's just easier than on other games. The community is mostly composed of 12-18 year olds, with some other older people, so yea, it's a toxic community (they will grow up, so it might become better). I like the movement, it gives a different approach to the game. Animations, well, meh indeed. The reason why people play it is because it's free, noob friendly (for the most part) and it doesn't require a good computer (although it really abuses your CPU for some reason).

They've built tournament arenas just for the game, and they have tons of leagues going on there. China actually has ONE of the BEST, teams in the world at LoL too ( Korea and China are the best ). Since WCG will be held in China, ofc they will pick the game that's more popular in their country. And lets not forget the fact that LoL is still a lot more played than dota2, which means a lot more people will go to see the tournament itself / watch it online. Lol, that it will get bigger wasnt wrong. HeatoN said that in april? The game had an average peek of 27k players everyday in april. Now in june the game peeks around 31k players. Which means that the game has grown. Ive seen that the northamerican peek is a lot higher now as well, maybe 3k more than it used to be. I would make a guess and say that the game has got at least 10k active players since HeatoN said this. I wouldnt consider that too bad.

Wouldnt consider them too low, right now. Do you mean the stream numbers during tournaments or just normal streams? Normal streams have grown a lot too, the CS:GO category gets a lot more viewers even when there isnt a tournament going on. The ESL raidcall qualifiers get decent amount of viewers, and during a day of these qualifiers the CS:GO category gets around 17k viewers and this is just qualifiers. Well, lets see what dreamhack can show us since this is the time for CS:GO to really prove itself and hopefully get over 50k viewers another time.

you do realise steam stats show neither the playerbase nor the amount of players who play the game daily but rather the 24h PEAK concurrent players? a huge peak doesn't neccesarily mean a huge playerbase, it simply means there's a lot of players in a certain timezone... namely 1.6 peaks when it's evening time in eatern europe/russia, but after that the numbers drop a LOT. here's a screenshot of mine that i made back in february, it clearly shows that peak concurrent players do NOT tell the whole picture. i.imgur.com/J6E8Yaq.jpg i still fail to see why you think that the more players the game has, the better it is.

no it doesn't... most of the people don't change because their PCs are shitty. i personally know a lot of people who haven't switched to CSGO because they have crappy FPS. in 2009/2010, source became more popular than 1.6 in 1st world countries because guess what, they have better PCs. source had a bigger scene in Denmark, France, UK, Germany, and i bet the US too. on the other hand eastern european countries, Russia, south american and asian countries played 1.6. most of the people who still play 1.6 haven't even tried CSGO.

I hope u guys know that the community of crossfire in china is huge.. Crossfire in china is popular as fuck.. they had an tournament around 2 weeks ago which had a prize pool of 50.000 USD for the winner.. It was never going to be in the selected games list. Ever since they went "mobile only" and then u-turned, they have been an absolute joke. WCG just isn't the same anymore, they have been crippled by financial problems, and are a joke in the entire scene. It says so in the actual list of games they have there. Hence why I say "no surprise". I wasn't counting on it, nor was I expecting it. No one should even be thinking we should have CS:GO in there, as we are probably better off being out of that loop.

Wait so why are all you cs:go haters still a part of this community? This community primarily conveys cs:go related news. I have never played cs:go (hurr durr med school and crap laptop) but I love keeping up with the tournaments and sincerely hope the game continues to progress. It's the only version of counter-strike left and I still find tournaments fun to watch.

WCG is a joke, first they introduced the concept of "Mobile Games" to replace "PC Games". Then they went back to pc games without the two of the largest FPS Games. Call of duty + CS:Global Offensive. No Steam Games? lol Dota2? Who plays Frozen Throne in 2013?

This thread is so full of spite it sickens me. It's not like WCG is an important tournament. It lost its relevance to CS community a long time ago, the last enjoyable and half-important WCG tournament was probably back in 2010. Furthermore, the quality of last year's broadcast was terrible, so overall it's not a huge loss to not have a good game at a mediocre tournament.

Why does this crossfire game even exist? What you think..CS:GO is not gonna hit people's minds..Even pro players dislike the game, but are just playing it for money.. I don't see passion in this game...Valve failed badly..And giving this game half price or free just give a freaken nice image about game.. Even shitty graphic cs 1.6 you must buy full price for it.. CS 1.6 has died as competitive level and that's fine...But at least we can still mix with people.. CS:GO matchmaking for nice feature..Valve should add it on cs 1.6 or source also:D But to be honest I am day by day startin to hate russians..Something has changed inside me:D..I go matchmake and found out there is 2-6 russians playing...Talkin some shit all the time russian..
