No CS:GO at GameGune 2013

The GameGune organisers have announced that this year's event will not feature any Counter-Strike title.

This is the first time in the history of GameGune, one of the most prestigious e-sports events in Spain, that it will not stage a Counter-Strike tournament.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II on the Xbox 360 is the only game that will be played at the event, which will take place under the wings of the Euskal LAN party, from July 25th to 28th, in Bilbao.

The signup fee for this invitational CoD tournament is €45 per player. All teams who wish to get an invite are to contact the organisers at [email protected].

GameGune stops CS support

GameGune has one of the longest traditions in the history of Counter-Strike, going back to the early days of competitive gaming. Ninjas in Pyjamas, fnatic, mousesports and Made in Brazil were some of the teams who were crowned champions at the event.

fnatic's Danish team were the last team to win GameGune, defeating Na´Vi 2-1 in the grand fnal of the 2012 edition.

grow up people. The game isn't to blame. It's the competitive scene in general. Name me 1 other popular shooter that is at the same level as csgo right now on PC? Exactly. There isn't any. It's all about RTS and MOBA games right now. LoL gets 200k viewers on daily basis, easily. Whilst csgo barely reaches 15k daily, let alone on big tournaments. It's just not the same crowd anymore. If we compared 1.6 in it's prime, to Starcraft 1&2 or League/DotA2, it would still not be as successful.

Like that matters... the gamers have spoken. They'd rather watch a MOBA or RTS esport event, than any shooter to-date. Believe you me, I fucking hate it just as much as the next person, but esports has a long way to go, before it's seen as a viable way earning income in ALL esports games. This world would have to become very game driven, in order to see the views and level of sponsorship that sports today gets on a regular basis. It would firstly have to be televised across the globe (as much as people of this generation would like to disagree, but TV matters) and I personally don't know if I'd want to see that future. Imagine the type of world we would live in, if csgo was as popular as the World Cup. I'm not sure if I'd be as pleased as everyone else. Can't be 100% certain.

if im not mistaken the ONLY game is going to be featured will be cod 45€ per member + manager. When other years there was also starcraft, cs, etc. and the entrance was by invite, Its not they dont like the game or whatever lmao ever heard about the crisis?

if they only playing COD on the fricken Xbox, then its obvious that they have large sponsorship to do this and have left out csgo for these reasons. You guys should know that Valve isn't a government, they're running a business, and unless we give them a (monetary) reason, they won't do a thing. We gotta advertise CSGO, make people watch streams and at least buy the new game, get rid of the the whole "csgo is shit, 1.6 4 life" thinking, make our own tournaments, etc.

Have you ever seen any international event made by them? Why DOTA II is at the third major event and there is none for CS? Because the community backs up valve with the cash. Most of the money spent in the event comes from their profit with the in-game store and items. You got to understand that CS:GO was just a game released for extra profit, it was never their real intention to make a 1.7, they just wanted to make some more money before 1.6 and CS:S died. It was developed as a CSS port for the Xbox 360 and it never moved away from that.

No need to worry Guys. Nobody can us take away CS 1.6. The last 1.6 Updates didn't ruin the Game and even Valve knows what a holy Meaning this Game for a huge Part of the FPS Scene has. So if everything goes down with CSGO and those shitty Games the whole Scene has still the Opportunity to return to 1.6 and play it forever like Football is being played since a Century unchanged.
