X-CUP announced with €930 prize pool

The first major CS:GO tournament in Brazil will take place later this summer, with a prize purse that amounts to €930.

Despite the fact that most of the big-name Brazilian teams from 1.6 and CS:Source switched to CS:GO some months ago, there has not been a single big LAN tournament so far, with online leagues, such as the Razer Challenge, the only thing to play for.

The lack of activity in the Brazilian scene has already made its first victim, with Raphael "cogu" Camargo's paiN confirming their disbandment earlier in the week.

To turn this worrying situation around, ESEA, together with the L.G.X Centro de Coveniência LAN center, will be hosting a tournament in Sao Paulo on September 29th with cash prizes in excess of €900.

The prize purse could still be increased, depending on the number of teams who sign up for the qualifiers, but the current breakdown is the following:

1. €585
2. €240
3. €100

There will be four qualifiers taking place for this tournament, two of them online, on August 4th and 18th, and two of them on LAN, in Sao Paulo, on September 15th and 22nd.

when mibr had sponsors, cogu & cia used to bootcamp in sweden 2~3 weeks before major tournaments and those bootcamps really made the difference for them. now that they don't have these kind of sponsors anymore, it's REALLY hard for them to play in other countries. we really have good players, but they just don't wanna spend their own money to play ]:

who does? its a huge amount of expense... the only reason orgs do it is because of marketing opportunities... From the Americas you're looking at ~$25000 when you account for airfare, lodging, food and everything to send 5 people to europe

This is interesting. If 5 people in the team were to work a normal job for 1 day they would almost make as much as the current first prize. And considering the qualifiers and having to go there they would probably end up making more money just working.

pretty sure anyone except nip would be better off financially by just working a normal job all year round instead of playing cs:go all year round. in fact, most would probably only have to work around six months. it's not about the money (and if it is, you're in the wrong business).

i have no idea how much nip gets in salary, although i doubt it's more than a bad real job. i said that because they make a ton of money from prize money, even if some events don't pay out.

it's an added plus, but 1) most places get extremely boring and repetitive after a while (e.g. germany, sweden, paris) 2) cs:go has only had one tourney in north america for europeans, none in asia. not much cool travel yet, although for 1.6 it was great.

To be honest, and I know most people on HLTV won't understand, is that it is a start. This can get the ball rolling for more events in Brazil, and that could only be a good thing. Yeah a small prize purse, but a start.

Maybe, but at the end of the day, it is a starting point. Having done thorough research in the UK, a CSGO tournament really only needs to be around £1,500 to get good interest in the UK scene, from there it could grow if the scene gets behind it. It's all about baby steps.

I think there is not enough brazillian teams, thats the problem. If esea thought theyd attract a big crowd im sure youd already see it, similar to the european esea. Oddly enough euro ESEA was a failure in 1.6, dont get why it worked in GO
