Iceland lineup for EC2013 confirmed

Iceland's captain and manager Johann "shine" Gudmundsson has completed his full roster for European Championship 2013.

While we do not see many Icelandic teams competing in European tournaments, it seems that the country has a lot to offer, as the European Championship lineup consists of three teams.

Three more players from Gudmundsson's team almost extreme have made the list, as well as three from TEN5ION. The roster is completed by a celphtitled duo and a free agent Alexander Egill "HUNDZi" Guðmundsson.

Iceland will be represented by the following squad:

Johann "shine" Gudmundsson (almost extreme)
Andri Már "dripz" Maríuson (almost extreme)
Gylfi "suf" Helgason (almost extreme)
Birgir "biggz" Þórðarsson (almost extreme)
Kristinn Andri "CaPPiNg" Jóhannesson (TEN5ION)

The Nordic island country is 29th on the list and the organizers expect to release several more representatives in the coming days.

i think their surnames has something with their fathers names.. for example: his fathers name is gudjon then his surname will be gudjonson or something like that :D

Son in Iceland and the Scandinavian countries means the same as in English, son, and in Icelandic it would mean that for example: Tryggvason = Son of Tryggva Gudmundsson = Son of Gudmund And for girls it would be "dottir" in the end: Tryggvadottir Gudmundsdottir But what I'm saying is that they get their names from their fathers :) Edit: I don't know if you knew this, but might aswell post it if someone else are curious ;)

Yes, I would assume that ;) Sounded kinda weird for me aswell, but if you follow the "rules" it should be Tryggva :P Edit to your edit: Yes everyone are named after their fathers in Iceland :P I wouldn't call it a "rule", but it's just tradition I guess :)

Nah, they kept it, "we" (Norway, Sweden, Denmark) let go of it some time ago :D But some people still have them in our countries aswell, like: Persson (Sweden) Pedersen (Norway) Andersen (Denmark) Just to give a few examples ;)

That sounds like a total mess, tbh. I mean, I would understand that the whole generation is named Tryggvason. Son is Tryggvason, his son is Tryggvason, etc. Do women take name after their husband? Because if so, that would somehow end up in following: f.e. Jane Tryggvason = Jane, daugher of Tryggva. And she marries George Traustison. She takes his surname and suddenly becomes Jane, son of Trausti. Kinda cute for the boys actually. Not that much for girls. If it works for them in the same manner, indeed :)

I know it sounds confusing, but you just have to take a deep thought and really think about it, haha! Nothing else to do :D But let me "try" and say it simple. We got Trausti Tryggvason his father's name was Tryggva, and that's why he's called Tryggvason, after his father's first name Trausti gets a son, so his name will be Gudmund Traustison (Gudmund is his first name, just took a random one), because his father's name was Trausti. If Gudmund get's a son, his name will be for example Birgir Gudmundsson Now we have: Grandfather = Trausti Tryggvason Father = Gudmund Traustison Son = Birgir Gudmundsson Hopefully I cleared it up for you :D (Just read it SLOWLY and CAREFULLY)

Yes, I am not confused about inheriting male names. Thanks for clearing that up anyway. I am more curious about what applies to females. Do they take a name after their mother? And if they marry a guy, do they change their surname to his? If so, that would literally make them sons.

No, their first name is obviously chosen by the parents :D But the seconds name goes after the after aswell, so: Gudmunsson would be Gudmundsdottir (Which means daughter) And I'm not really sure what happens when they marry someone, because I'm not from Iceland :P In Norway we don't have the same system ^^

depends. If you can get fiber, which is available to many, including myself I get 50/50 But a normal DSL connection that the rest have is like in the are of 12/2 - sometimes lower if you are far away from the main connection site. not sure how many on the lineup have Fiber except for me.

To all those asking for the old seven players for example, none of them play. They haven't even played 1.6 since 2011, except for the random mixing here and there, and that was mostly just vargur. Last year we had the last 1.6 LAN and there celphtitled won, with almost extreme coming 2nd and rws and dbsc in 3rd and 4th. With CSGO this roster is chosen by looking at the LAN HRingur we had two weekends ago. There the team with ofvirkur and dannoz won the finals vs almost extreme with 2 close maps, TEN5ION finishing 3rd and celphtitled 4th - no teams really prepared much for the event, although most teams played together in some form or another for around 2 or 3 weeks before the event. dannoz, ofvirkur and kruzer all from the winning team at HRingur didn't make themselves available for the national team. The Icelandic players you once knew who competed at an international stage have sadly almost all stopped playing. kutter and stebbz have the most experience, with stebbz having gone to SHG Open with rws in I think 2006 or 2005. Hopefully you'll be surprised by how we play!
