DGC 2013 with $1,800 this weekend

South Africa has been quiet so far in the CS:GO scene, but this weekend Do Gaming League Championship 2013 will take place with $1,800 plus hardware up for grabs.

Telkom Do Gaming Championship 2013 will take place on October 4-5th during the rAge Expo 2013 at the Coca-Cola dome, Northgate in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Eight teams, one of which is Damage Control who represented South Africa at ESWC and KODE5 a few years back, will compete in this LAN event that is the culmination of the country's biggest online league.

The tournament will be played in double elimination best-of-three mode and the winners will take home $1,000.

DGC 2013 prize distribution

1. $1,000 + gaming gear
2. $500 + gaming gear
3. $200 + gaming gear
4. $100

HLTV.org will provide match coverage for the latter stage of the tournament along with the event's official stream.

Unfortunately South Africa is probably further behind than most white South Africans are aware: around 10th in human development and 7th in economic development (GDP per capita at purchasing power parity) among African countries. In the world rankings it's about 120th in human development and 80th in economic development. That's pretty far behind the developed world by any standard. It's important that people understand where the problems lie if anything's ever going to change. And, in my experience, many South Africans of European descent are living in denial. I don't think I'm going to single-handedly rescue the country, but I try to bring this up whenever it's relevant to the conversation in the hopes that small differences eventually add up.

Ya.. quality of life and economic development don't always translate. Thats a factor no one can measure and always ignores. Travelling africa has shown me that although poverty is everywhere, people are happy and eager to learn and progress. If anything I'd wish the uk was the same mentally as some africans because we are stuck with a lot of lazy shits that basically get carried through life by hard workers.

since the economic reforms in the late '70s, more than 500 million people have been brought out of poverty. say what you want about the communism party of china, but they seem to know what they're doing. I would also argue that china is semi-commuist since their private sector has less regulations than most capitalist countries. they also trade stocks and bonds internally and externally like any other non-communistic country out there, although the state have high ownership in many/most of their major companies. but that's the situation in a country like norway as well: statoil (67%), telenor (54%), hydro (43%) etc.

True, but the main thing is that the Do Gaming Championships does not only involve CS:GO, but other games such as COD4, Blops2, BF3, Dota, LoL, Starcraft etc. The total prize pool for the event is sitting at about $130 000, but yes.
