Records broken during Cologne day 1

Both concurrent viewers and players records have been broken on day one at ESL One Cologne with the new record set to 257,924 viewers and 227,074 players, respectively.

From the beginning to end of day one at ESL One Cologne, both the viewers' and players' numbers were rising constantly.

Cloud9's Titan upset pushed the numbers over the top with 257,924 concurrent viewers, which - according to Valve - doesn't include duplicate SteamIDs connected to both the stream and GOTV, and 227,074 players.

Concurrent viewers record broken by Cloud9 and Titan

That means ESL One Cologne's day one broke the viewers' record by 5,036, which was previously set during EMS One Katowice grand final between NiP and Virtus.pro at 252,888.

The concurrent players record previously stood at 194,016 set after a big gameplay-changing update on July 2nd.

There are still three days of ESL One Cologne left, so the numbers can increase even further.

csgo is gonna die in 1 year, they said.

What makes it terrible? the movement ain't the best and the shooting is fucking dire at best but it's still playable and watchable, for me it's better to watch than play and the pros clearly don't mind it as they are all still playing it, how many have retired because the game was shit?

2 of the golden five, lurppis, probably more. plenty say the game sucks but they play it for the money, even if they "publicly" say it's okay, probably even more keep their negative thoughts to themselves. the movement is awful, the community is full of retard memers from reddit that only care about skins and matchmaking, the shooting is awful, you can't shoot through anything even if you know they're there, the sound is broken, the hitboxes are broken, the dev team only cares about dumbing the game down and adding MORE SKINS and MORE "OPERATIONS". other stuff im probably forgeting but it's like a chore to play it it's so boring and bad.

the dev team is short on numbers and I believe that some extra pairs of working hands would do them wonders. Topping that would be asking for pro players their feedback since the start of CS:GO or even during development, and it wouldn't take those 2 years. There are a lot of bugs that devs don't know how to solve either and only when some USER finds the solution and posts it on reddit is when they instantly put it into the game. That is why having more devs would help, two heads think better than one. 10 or more should be able to follow the same principle, since I think the dev team consists on 6 persons only.

Well, it kinda IS improved source- look wise. Maps are almost same like source. However shooting and movement are nothing like 1.6 or source. I havnt played cs go since 2012 however, even by specing the game, it looks different from source. I dont want to comment on shooting mechanics of the game however the movement sucks donkey ballz. I dont know if anyone feels this or not but to me, when i used to play csgo in 2012, jumping used to feel like you are in the air for .2 or .3 seconds more compared to 1.6.

what money? money level in cs:go is way way lower than lol/dota2. even starcraft can be considered more profitable than cs (the money goes to one player instead of a team of 5, the organisation spends less money sending 1 man to an event rather than 5+coach, besides that, it's always cheaper to pay 1 salary rather than 5). still, cs:go is growing and it's not beacuse of money or because valve supports it like it should (see riot or blizzard funding events thoughout the year). it's because people ENJOY it. cs:go is not a perfect game but sure as hell is pretty good.

There's literally no other FPS game that competes with CS, that's why. Source was already dead at that time and 1.6 wasn't doing so good either but it still had it's moments. CS:GO wouldn't be this big if Valve wouldn't have committed to do something about it's CS genre. In a micro-transaction generation CS:GO is held up by weapon skins and automated match-making as well as casual system and that's what people enjoy about it not because the game itself is good but because it's easy and accessible. But what really gives this game spectator numbers are the skins. If you took away skin betting, souvenir packages/skin drops/weapons cases and the marketplace the game wouldn't be where it is today. People are committed to the FPS genre of CS:GO but what drives them is the earning they potentially could get from skins. It's all about the money and of course why wouldn't it? I can assure you GeT_RiGhT and f0rest etc. wouldn't be playing this game if tomorrow another FPS with the exact same game mode appears but with larger prizepools, but there isn't. They're playing it for the money in a genre they admire because they're good at it and that's why they don't play LoL or Dota2 where you see larger prizepools. FPS is where they're home and they wouldn't be around CS:GO if a competing game with larger prizepools would appear.

CSGO is the best counter strike by far. we can't live from past, 1.6 was great, but cs:go from a viewers side (our side) is one billion times better. For player, also. CS:GO was terrible when it came out, it was a disaster, but now.. it's great, and every update is making it better and better.

Alot, The maps is awful. Movement is terrible. The weapon handling is terrible. Every single player in csgo has 1 thing in common: they sit down and spray in every duel and hope for the best. In 1.6, you actually could shoot 1 or 2 bullets at a time and you would hit, the weapon handling is so much better in 1.6 It was not randomspray-duels all the time like in csgo.

Uhm if you watch demo's from 2001-2005 it was spray-duels only too so don't talk shit and in GO you can actually 1 tap if you got good aim. Yes the movement is by far better in 1.6 and the maps became a lot better since the launch, they're not perfect, but they're good enough atm.

Well it's not 2001 now is it? In 1.6 you can atleast do it, in csgo NOBODY use the 2 shot method, everybody sits and spray like noobs. "good enough" huh ok.. the maps still suck monkeyballs. And i did not even mention skins.. it screams so much 12 year old over this game.

You can say whatever you want, but without the skins we wouldn't have those big tournaments and without the 12 years olds and other new players we wouldn't even survive for a year. There are still enough people who use the burst or tap technique, but spraying is just the populair technique nowadays and I bet in 5 years it will all be different just like in the 1st counter-strike.

i don't really like US scene that much but i started to like Manajuma and shroud in particular. i was pretty happy he joined ex complexity. these type of moves really work on US teams (see swag=>IBP) but rarely have a positive impact in European scene. all roster changes here had a disastrous effect on team chemistry (except maybe kennyS/shox swap).

cs:go>sc2 for quite some time now. blizzard fucked things up pretty badly in hots. the game is just not that fun to play/watch anymore and you can see this in the number of viewers on major tournaments.

If there's almost 250k watching a group stage game on a fucking thursday it'll without a doubt be over 400k watching the final.

Well, they said about the last thing about the two past majors, we'll see how it goes I guess. I'm guessing 450-500k.

450-500k is unrealistic. that's almost half of the actual active playerbase. somewhere between 300-350K is much more likely. if the scene continues to grow as it should, maybe we'll have 500k viewers in 2015 major events.

The active player base is over 3.3million or something. That's the amount of individual STEAM ID's that played CS:GO in the last month. I do agree though, I don't think it will hit 450-500k. Maybe 350-400k.

This is the fun part, all pro players went over to csgo because of the money, and the casual players did it because of them. HLTV is a retarded community who really thinks players switch game because of its quality, haha. The same amount of money in 1.6 as csgo = Nobody would switch, poor you guys :(

Counter-Strike finaly where it belongs. It is a great FPS game and haters from 1.6 and Source should definately stop crying because i believe that this game as it is now is way far before the others. Sure there are mistakes, but example 1.6 had many of bugs texture fails so what? The developers are making more and more updates and theyre trying to create even better and better game, when i look how CS:GO looked from the whole beginning i dont think i would have play it. Also the good thing is, that the CS:GO smashed the whole 1.6 and Source comunity together. I enjoy how the team changes, how there are becoming new teams and it is more comfortable to watch because in 1.6 every tournament won Natus Vincere or ESC and sometimes SK Gaming or Fnatic. It was really boring though :D Im not saying the same thing was at the beginning with NiP, but now we have a lot of good teams and i see a bright future.
