We got a hold of one of the winners of DreamHack Winter 2014, Richard "shox" Papillon, to see what his side of the grand final looked like.

Following LDLC's overtime win on Overpass, HLTV.org talked to Richard "⁠shox⁠" Papillon about the grand final with NiP. He shed some light on how the veto went for his team, shared his thoughts on all three maps and went on to reach out to the community to ask them not to hate fnatic.

NiP vs fnatic fnatic won 6-1 but it was supposed to be mr3, but fnatic went 4-1 as T then 2-0 as ct on the OT NiP complained to the admins because the OT settings were "wrong". But the objective decision by admins would've been to set the result at 4-1 instead, since they won 5-1 then 2-0, which is the same as 2-1 2-0 in an mr3, but NiP got a replay of the OT nonetheless, and fnatic won again. fnatic were pissed because nip tried to sneak a win by them, understandebly they were angry, angry enough to not shake hands, they also trashtalked nip. The reddit community got all upset and called it unsportsmanlike, to my mind NOONE needs to shake hands, they had already shook hands from the match before. But since its such a "requirement" now, players should always shake hands :/ because the community is so sensitive while also having a substantially large impact on prizemoney, sponsors etc etc Players need to please them in whatever way possible.

There already is proof about flusha cheating. So the accusations are not totally unfounded. Is the proof 100% convincing? It is not. But then again, 100% proof isn't needed in the court either, it's all relative. What's the right amount of proof needed? I don't know. But it's not right either that if someone doesn't get VAC banned he isn't cheating. Because it's very easy to cheat and not get VAC banned, we would have half of the pro scene cheating before long (if they already aren't).

It has been translated. It's not destroying. Destroying would be trash talking it into oblivion back and forth for everyone to hear. He just talked with people in privacy and it has been released. Judging by their behavior...That decision was made by organization, not the players. They were blaming the community for having to reset the game. Hate is strong word, but strongly dislike both Team Fnatic and Dreamhack as organization. I don't get it; for me fnatic won from LDLC. At least if my assumption is right that both of their boosts were found "illegal". The reasoning behind is that fnatic could have seen that LDLC used it first and were thinking; if they are allowed to use one, we are as well. Obviously knowing a better one, but they just got beaten at their own game. So in the end just let the match be played and go with the result. IF however the admins thought it was "illegal" during the match, they should have interfered when LDLC was doing it already. They let it go on, fnatic got a smarter one and won. End of story for me. If I got my facts straight at least, but from what I saw, heared and read afterwards, that was pretty much it. EDIT: It doesn't really matter for the point I'm trying to make, but yes I also think that fnatic boost ruins CS on that map, however, as I said, looking at the facts, it shouldn't have changed the outcome of the match.

what fnatic did was game breaking, what ldlc did not. if you think rational you cant deny that fnatic knew that this is a game breaking mapbug. you are right both teams broke the rules so the options are: disqualify both. obviously not possible. replay from ldlc 13-2. not fair to fnatic because ldlc also broke the rules while getting 13 rounds. replay from 0-0. not fair to ldlc because they had so many round and the bug they used wasnt affecting the score. use this rule: The following actions are strictly prohibited during a game and will result in round loss (the amount is determined by the tournament director) which will be deducted at the end of the match, and a warning. fair imo. so iirc ldlc gets -5, fnatic gets -12 and ldlc wins because of higher score. two other ways would be: 1) threat the legal played round as one half of a full game (ldlc 8 - 4) and play the second half of the game as mr6 in which ldlc needs one round to win. 2) look at the game as a whole mr15 (from which 12 round = mr6 are already played) and finish it as mr9. at a score of ldlc 8 - 4 there are 18 open rounds. every team gets 9 on both sides and the team with 16 rounds in total first wins. fnatic should have known better and subjective ldlc did nothing wrong (even if it was against the rules). dw even said they knew about it for months so they decided not to tell valve and abuse it in the tournament as something you cant counter in that situation. conclusion of all this drama: if you lose start to bugabuse and you get atleast one half replayed. gg.

I agree it was game breaking man. But you have to draw a line where one "breaks the game", in that point both did. You can't say one broke the game more than the other, you have to be consistent in that. 1) admins should have interfered the moment LDLC did the boost. 2) let them both play the map to it's ultimate (yes game breaking), who-ever finds the best boost, and go with the score.. after all, LDLC are some great talents together and it's a "french dreamteam" so they probably do deserve to be with the big 4 now. Once I saw that new LDLC line up I was like, they gonna own bigtime. However, I do think with maikelele, NIP has the stronger line up, but LDLC won that match fair and square.

Wow. LDLC crying their way through the quarter to semi, reporting an illegal boost by Fnatic while using illegal boosts themselves. In terms of game-breaking, yes the Fnatic boost was better (congrats to them for finding it) but in terms of actual DreamHack rules, both teams broke it and Fnatic won 16-13. That should be it. I wouldn't want to hate on fnatic but abusing that God spot boost (where you can see the whole map) for the entire ct side was really disappointing. I wasn't a fan of LDLC but when I was watching the whole game. It was sickening to see such an abuse and knowing fnatic knew it for 2 months and not reporting it to valve in order to win 100% sure by using that spot. kinda disgusting :( Legal or not.. it's just not right seeing that. loved the finals. both teams justifiably battled with that map. always 1v2/1v1 esp in overtime. they really did their best. kudos to nip and ldlc.

People hates fnatic not because they used that bug; I thought that was cool on their first eco but because they used it every round as their receipe to ldlc. It looked so bad. Match didnt make sense at that point. It was different to other boosts because it was giving high level of information. Ldlc used their boost before tournament so at least teams could adapt.

Hated them ever since the match against NiP where they cried about having replay the overtime and not shaking NiP's hands. In that situation where NiP was complaining about if they knew that the overtime was different they wouldn't have spent all their money for that "final" round(that's like saying you only have one more day to live in the wilderness before coming back home and then having the guy say, ooops sorry you have another week to stay here while you already ate all your food)
