Natus Vincere have announced that Sergey "starix" Ischuk has stepped down from the active line-up.

The news comes as little surprise as several Na`Vi players had publicly admitted that the team would have to undergo roster changes if they continued to underperform in the biggest tournaments.

Last weekend, the Ukraine-based team crashed out of ESL One Katowice in the quarter-finals following a 1-2 defeat against EnVyUs, a campaign that fell shy of their semi-final appearance at the previous major, DreamHack Winter.

And Sergey "⁠starix⁠" Ischuk, who was the second worst player in Katowice on a 0.74 rating, has now decided to hang up his mouse and keyboard and take up a position as team coach and manager.

Until a permanent replacement is found, Na`Vi will be playing with Egor "⁠flamie⁠" Vasilyev, who left HellRaisers on Monday, as a stand-in.

I love NaVi, and for me, its not that sad, because starix didnt leave NaVi - like ceh9, he still works for NaVi, but he is not playing for this team. Now Im just curious, what about the old NaVi manager...

Well he said that he was stepping down if they failed in Katowice, he has been playing for a long ass time aswell. He isn't even quitting the team, he just changed role. Nothing sad about it

I dont think that his level with regard to the understanding of the game or fine feeling is detereorating. It's lack of motivation and maybe lack of good and strict organisation (little pressure from team management) that make him underperform in terms of stats. To cut a long story short: he needs a kick in his ass^^

Considering how good zeus and starix have always got along, now that Na`Vi has more firepower, Zeus can focus more on his game and calling a bit whereas starix will focus on coaching more. Na`Vi looks like a top2 contender at the next major for me if their chemistry is good. I'm scared for other top teams. Edit: starix in 1.6 was a top3 aimer for me so he was a really good player, just unfortunate he couldn't bring that level to CSGO and now this happens. Best of luck starix!

Don't see the problem in starix. Yes, if you would replace him by s1mple and look at the raw skill he would be better but the times NaVi performs bad it always looks like they're not prepared 100% on EVERY map except their safe ban (de_nuke). When that happens, most of the time, every player of them looks really bad.

I miss the 1.6 Navi: Zeus, Starix, Markeloff, Edward and Ceh9 One of my favorite teams at the time, really liked watching their de_mirage.

This is crazy, I've been a huge starix fan since 1.6 but his level in GO is no where near what he was capable of in 1.6. Sad to see him leave the active roster

starix was the one who was given the GO to create a super team back in 2009-2010 by Arbalet's Marat Jamashivich (my spelling of his name is wrong though) and now the guy who created the team and picked the line up back then out of which Edward and Zeus still remained gone! GL Sergey! Tnx!
