Hiko confirms Nihilum move

Spencer "Hiko" Martin has announced on his stream that he will join Nihilum Gaming.

Spencer "⁠Hiko⁠" Martin's future had been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks as many expected him to play a pivotal role in the roster shake-up that is affecting the upper echelon of North American Counter-Strike.

He had been tipped to build a dream team with the region's best players together with Tyler "⁠Skadoodle⁠" Latham, but when the talented AWPer opted instead to sign for Cloud9 he was forced to join a pre-existing squad.

After carefully considering his options, Hiko has decided to join Nihilum Gaming, one of North America's strongest up-and-coming sides, with a recent 5th-6th place finish at the ESEA Finals to their name.

Hiko reunites with SEMPHIS in Nihilum

In Nihilum, Hiko, who will step into the shoes of Andrew "⁠Professor_Chaos⁠" Heintz, will reunite with a familiar face in the shape of former Cloud9 team-mate Kory "⁠SEMPHIS⁠" Friesen.

Despite previous suggestions of tension between himself and his former Cloud9 team-mates, Hiko insists that all is well with the Canadian player.

"I have full faith in this team," Martin said on his stream. "SEMPHIS and myself work really well together."

For a while, many believed that Hiko would wind up joining CLG, an established team with considerable resources behind it. The player, however, insists that such a move was never under consideration by him.

"That's not the route I wanted to take, I talked to a lot of people I trust, I could not see my future there," he explained.

"I never considered CLG."

I agree with you Mr. Brain. I think that P_C would be a better choice than Valens just due to raw fragging capabilities. Regardless of Valens intelligence level or game sense it wont matter overseas(or versus top NA teams, hue) where you simply get outaimed and punished for every missed shot. The only reason I think that they kept Valens is that he is some sort of package deal with Autimatic or Sancz in which if he doesn't play they don't play. Kind of like Sgares and n0thing or Anger and fl0m.

if ur right about that it throws really everything said by hiko and this video youtube.com/watch?v=1U6FlgLOsCk off. since i dont want to believe that, i am hoping that valens brings something to the team that is more valuable than another fragger or that PC had some issues within his game or within the team that we dont know about. i mean i loved PCs play when i watched them, but who knows. also valens was the most supportive support player ever like literally giving up 100% of his own game to help out the team, so maybe he just looked worse than he actually is, we'll see i guess.

Yeah I see what you're saying and it's not like haven't seen igls who can't still frag. Happy, xizt, NEO/TaZ (they switch I think) and even DaZeD come into mind. Maybe this new lineup will allow us to see why they kept him, but until then I guess we just have to assume that they see him as a more valuable player than PC.

I don't know. Possible, but Ska on C9 improves that team. Hiko on Nihilum improves that team. Pyth and PTR on LG improves that team. I think the NA teams are at least marginally better.

Picking up Hiko is an awesome move, That being said.... it makes 0 sense to cut PC. PC was by a long shot the highest ceiling player on that team... his aim is absolutely bananas, and I can tell you from playing on several teams with him that he is also one of the nicest and easiest going people around. Why keep Valens, who I do like as a person, just to be an IGL with minimal skills when you have 2 other solid and probably better IGL options in Semphis and Hiko.. literally one of the dumbest moves.. cut your top lan performer. Le sigh NA

Expected Hiko to go to Nihilum tbh, did not expect P_C dropped. I don't think they know how hard it is to IGL when Semphis is on a team and not the IGL tbh. If they did, Semphis would be IGL in a heartbeat.

I thought Hiko left C9 because of Semphis? Anyway, they are now twice as good as the lineup that beat C9 at ESEA lan. Should be interesting to see how they fare versus the new C9. But it's pretty funny how he joins a fairly mediocre team after boasting about how 90% of the major organizations approached him to make a team.

If you watched his stream, he explained it all out the reasons why. Nihilum has 3 very hungry players with a priority on improving as a team and the dedication to make it happen. He likes the management of the team, and feels there's enough skill to be competitive. Seeing as two weeks ago without Semphis and Hiko they managed to bring Fnatic and Titan to overtime on a map, there might be something to what he said.

You're mistaken. They put up 13 rounds against VP and 10 rounds against fnatic on the first maps in their Bo3s, then proceeded to get raped on the second maps. Hardly a noteworthy accomplishment. Personally, I think he's extremely overrated as a player so in my eyes, he fits in with the team. But it was just funny seeing him hype himself up only to join a team that would struggle to dominate the NA scene let alone win a major.

Everyone keeps looking at the player ratings instead of objectively. The only rating for Professor Chaos came from the CEVO LAN. HLTV doesn't have the ESEA LAN, where P_C was only marginally better than flowsick AND Valens. Both Sancz and Autimatic are better players(they were solid at both CEVO and ESEA). Yes, Valens is the weakest on the team. Semphis could maybe call, and they could potentially keep P_C, but honestly he's not as good as most of you are saying he is. It wouldn't have been much of a change in the long run, frankly.

welp... nihilum now has the best lineup in NA. this shuffle has been weird. luminosity has the most wtf stupid line up, c9 signed a lift freak that doesn't play longer than 6 months at a time when he gets on a team, and no one knows whats happening with CLG and Liquid. depending on who CLG and Liquid pick up then Nihilum is without a doubt a team that has everything they need to become the best in the region.

Nihilium was the strongest team at the ESEA LAN Finals...and no NA team is great either way,they look good only while playing against other NA teams.

autimatic literally takes tips from hiko during gameplay, not too good. valens is good but cant really break out any fancy plays to make himself known. sancz is pretty beast when hes on point, but when i watch him he still doesn't have the play style that fits the pros just yet. semphis is good fit but again he played with hiko and the chemistry was ok at best. Roster changes after 2 months guaranteed.

RIP Professor_Chaos. Lighting a candle for him [*] And as many have said above already it is a very surprising move indeed, since P_C has been the most consistent player within Nihilum. And his LAN performance at last ESEA S18 finals clearly showed that he formed a major part of the 'spine' of Nihilum. Yes they lost to VP and FNC, but they schooled C9 on Inferno and closed out convincingly on Cache. I highly enjoyed that match. I do feel they made a huge mistake by cutting him off and not having the guts to let go of Valens instead. But yeah, maybe they needed to keep Valens as IGL since Hiko did say a few times on his stream that he didn't want to be an IGL anymore. Ah well, time will tell if this was a sensible move. In the meantime, If I were CLG, I'd make haste to contact P_C and see if he's willing to join them. In any case, all the best to P_C. You will be missed. And not just only because of that awesome nickname.
