SnypeR: "Australia deserves 2 spots"

We caught up with Iain "SnypeR" Turner to get an idea on Immunity's preparation and expectations going into FACEIT Finals, how their matches went and more topics surrounding the Oceanic region.

Iain TurnerIain Turner[/header]

Immunity were pretty much the surprise of the tournament, as they came close to getting a map off NiP in the initial round, after which they overcame Liquid on three maps before going down to the Swedes again in the second place decider.

We managed to get a hold of Iain "SnypeR" Turner and talk to him about numerous topics, including some not surrounding the tournament itself, such as the current state of Oceanic competition.

You insinuated that the Australian scene can be compared to the NA scene, which it can't be. Only fanboys/haters will tell you anything of the sort. Ask Thorin the question and he'll say it's still miles apart.

It maybe was an exageration, but many tier 2-3 teams in EU are underrated because they often play against either each other or against tier 1 teams, where they obviously lose. But so does the NA and AUS teams. Teams like dignitas, mousesports, LGB, Penta, Property, copenhagen wolves etc etc are probably as good as the best in NA/AUS.

Yes it's obviously better to increase the global sale of the game but not if it lowers the competitive value of the game. Else give free spots to India and China since those are the two countries with the largest population.

So you'd rather invite shit teams that get 4-6 rounds per map over the best teams that give us the best and exciting matches? I'm all for giving these teams a chance but if they get that chance and fail as hard as this then they can fuck off in my opinion, I want to see the best teams available. If we use that logic lets bring back the Indians, maybe fly over some of the Chinese or Japs so they can get 4 rounds a map as well just to make it more global.

Did I say that? Immunity & Vox have both proven they can compete with the worlds best, they maybe not quite up there in terms of taking big wins against some of the worlds best, but they can give them a very decent run for their money. At the end of the day, for CS to keep going and continue being successful, it needs to have a global audience. At best we have a very western audience at the Majors, and it's about time we started dishing out more spots for more regions. The domestic scene for Australia, is now really really decent since Vox got a spot last year at Katowice, and continued to keep coming back, other domestic scenes like India/South Africa/Asian scenes need that same chance to continue developing the talent pool. It's a win win for everyone involved. I'm simply saying that for CS to continue growing at a good steady rate, it needs to get some more global reach as iirc that was one of the reasons why 1.6 eventually got dropped from multiple tournaments because it wasn't "global" enough in terms of audience and actual competing teams.

That is what happens to every one of these teams, they do well against EU teams for a couple maps but then once their style has been seen they just get rekt. These SEA teams that come in and surprise teams like fnatic, NiP etc only manage it because their play style is so different, after 1 map, they are figured out and never get close again.

put it this way buddy boy, vox and imm best teams in aus, go overseas get stomped, only because they dont get the chance to do it often, but they are only getting stomped by teams who have been in the top tier best in the world position for the past 10 years. their 1 - 2 trip experience vs 30+ major event qualifiers, ofcourse it's expected for aus teams to lose, the only way we'll get better against the top tiers is if we continue to attack the scene until we become the best. simple, fnatic and nip or navi wouldn't be shit today if they weren't around for 10 years in the hardest competitions, why not let the future of csgo carve the fate of new eras? do you want fnatic or any of them to keep winning every major for the next 10 years? how boring and pointless would majors be then? if other teams weren't allowed to compete because they just simply weren't up too par for major tournaments or internationals?

yeah fully agree. the reason EU teams are so good is because they are always going to minor events that happen all the time. since we are so far away we can only play domestic teams, and unfortunately for iM and Vox it's not always a challenge, so they aren't getting the same practice and experience as the Euros get. but doesnt explain why NA is so trash atm so i dunno hahaha, love to see some more Aussie games.

You kinda did and compete? taking some rounds isn't competing unless I'm going senile and Australian teams have taking maps against the Euros then I apologize. CS has grown enough, how grown do you want it? if CS hasn't caught on now what's going to change that, more skins? another spot? tell me how having 2 Australian teams at this event instead of 1 is going to make it grow even more globally, why not invite the team from India to make it grow more? 1.6 got dropped because the game was old as fuck, it dominated the FPS e-sport market for like a decade, the game just died and I very much doubt it had anything to do with how global it was. How global was SC1? WC3? Q3? pretty global games yet they died off, it happens. Being ultra global won't stop CS:GO dying eventually as well. Simply put, in my opinion what's going to make CS:GO better and stay better is having as many of the best teams as possible at as many events as possible with less shit as possible. We want quality not quantity.

I was talking on average regarding the rounds and who wants to see the best teams in the last 3 matches when we can see them in EVERY match? why invite a bunch of shit teams with absolutely no fucking chance then see good matches on the last day? This LAN is 3 days so you have to invite the best teams in smaller numbers, maybe if the LAN was a week long we can invite your shit teams and have 50 teams here but who wants that? We don't want 50 matches with 100 teams over a week, we want the best teams playing each other all the time over a few days. I don't hate shit and you guys ain't catching up in the slightest I just hate people like you or the Brazilians acting like they deserve stuff when they deserve fuck all mate, Aussies have been at a few events and done nothing yet act like you deserve more spots? Where are teams from China, Japan, India and all that? why not invite random teams from Europe as well like from Russia just to make it more global, what makes Australia so fucking special?

"Where are teams from China, Japan, India and all that? why not invite random teams from Europe as well like from Russia just to make it more global, what makes Australia so fucking special?" That's exactly the point of a, wait for it, "global" game... I would love to see other areas represented. Why do we have to watch European teams every game? How boring.

I'm pretty sure Flipside3 would beat any Australian side as well as the other two teams you just mentioned, you beat some dog shit American side and now think you can compete? Who said the game had to be global, because it's called global offensive? get real mate, it's just a name lol. You don't have to watch Europeans but if you do, it's because it's the best CS has to offer, is your solution to lose half of the best teams in the world to bring in teams from countries that suck? aye, let's get rid of VP to replace them with a team from Nepal to make shit more global. And if you get bored watching the best teams in the world maybe you should find another game to follow. Quality > quantity.

Flipside lost the an Australian team, hard btw, last major. So don't invite flipside because they are no good, yeah?? Because they want to grow the game. I don't know if that flies over your head, but there are more people outside of just Europe who play CS:GO... The more involvement they get, the better... It isn't exactly brain surgery here...

Valve want to grow the game, what does that have to do with FaceIT and SLTV etc? think they give a shit about it being global? ok maybe Faceit does but the rest? as I said before get real. The current Flipsid3 lineup? show me as I can't remember that. Nothing flies over my head, you just have it stuck in your mind that people want this game to be global and nothing else so they need to invite trash to achieve that, you guys are lucky to get one spot you only had to beat fellow Aussies for and to come out and say you "deserve" 2 is fucking scandalous. I'm all for you guys getting 1 spot then seeing how you perform but to say you deserve 2? and with the shit you're talking about being bored watching the best teams CS has to offer? I honestly don't get what you're mindset is here. You get bored watching the best in the world yet want more teams that on average bag 4 rounds against the teams that bore you. Now that's the type of shit that flies over my head.

We're on the same page I think. And it was the Flipside lineup that got rekt hard last major. To be honest I don't think the current lineup would make a difference and for that matter Vox have changed their lineup too since then. I will honestly say I haven't actually watched the video and I assume it's about Faceit tournaments. But my argument is coming from the bigger scale and just having more recognition in general. That being said, Brazil and SA and Africa, Asia should get more teams as well. "...and nothing else so they need to invite trash to achieve that..." So flipside, dignitas, 3dmax are all trash then? You can't deny facts. Vox have beaten all three of those teams recently...

Pretty sure that's the Swedish lineup that was probably tier 3 and I'm 100% sure the current Flipsid3 lineup would make a HUGE difference and Vox have changed 2 players and couldn't even qualify for this event, they ain't even the best in AUS now are they? I agree having more recognition is a good thing but we can't have that at the expense of quality as I said, we can't stop some of the best the game has to offer coming here just so we can mix it up and make it more global, we can't give these guys free rides as well which Immunity got, if they get here on merit then sure but don't dish out special privileges just because we want to see more global teams. So beating a tier 2 team makes Vox less trash? come on bro, I know you're an Aussie but wake up and smell the coffee. Fact is those 3 teams have done MUCH better against these teams than Vox or any Aussie team has yet because Vox beat them they're trash? lol ok.# You're clutching at straws here, oh we beat a few teams we deserve more spots and we're good enough to compete, you beat a Flipsid3 team that consisted of tier 3 or even 4 at best players.

It's stupid that na got the same amount of teams as Europe. Australia deserve 2 spots and keyd 1 spot NA 2 or 3 spots. na teams have been given the chance for years now but it's amazing how little they learn from European cs. Sure the ban gate fucked them over pretty good but the other teams should have learned that run n gun don't work on a higher leve.

Tell me something, if Immunity had to qualify for this event against the rest of the European teams that didn't make it here do you honestly think they would be here? Same goes for Liquid and Elevate.

No I do not. But I'm coming from a global perspective. There's a tournament every couple weeks with the best EU teams... Faceit is represented worldwide basically.

I understand that perspective but that's what majors are for, that's what Valve want and not the majority of the other big events, do Dreamhack want it? Fragbite? SLTV? FaceIT moved into the Oceania market aye but that doesn't mean should see it more often, as I said before you're getting chances to show if you're good and not taking them so to then say you deserve more chances and more teams is a piss take.

Obviously if they increase the teams invited then invite 2 Oceanic teams but if you're only going to invite 8 teams then hell, I'd not invite any Oceanic or even Americans, it's just free wins.

Another difference between csgo and 1.6 regarding all of your "globalization", they are making a load of money only from NA and EU, so sure they could go for bigger markets in asia, and im pretty sure money-machine Valve would like that! But as a player and viewer i dont see the point. As long as they keep making new skins etc, they'll get loads of money! Regarding the question about Oceanic spots, i would say 1 is fine as of now. But i think(Im not sure how it is now) they should have equal rights and opportunities to qualify as other EU and NA teams.

Funniest part is that you think EU are getting caught..... A team that no one has seen before manages to have a decent map against NiP and "the gap is closing".... wrong. like i said in earlier post, these teams come to Europe, play good for a couple maps while the other teams figure them out and then they tank like everyone else. The gap isn't closing one bit, Fnatic and Envy are being caught by other EU teams and the gap is getting bigger to everyone else.

They said that when I said Vox would beat 3dmax... They said that when I said Vox could beat Dignitas... or Flipside They said that when I said Immunity would beat Liquid... I know I am patriotic, but I'm not dumb. I only said a chance, against Titan. Give the Aussie teams a couple months in Europe and I would say at least 30-40% odds...

i gave them almost an year sine they appeared at cologne 2k14 ffs keep beating tier 3 teams - thats their place in a tournaments like coppenhagen games or something they are even worse than penta which is in my opinion the worst tier 2 team right now im tired of "giving them 2-3 mounths" its time to show or go out

Dignitas, 3dmax, flipside? All beaten by vox at the last major. I wouldn't say they are horrible teams. I'm not saying the Australian or even NA teams are that great, but I do think they deserve more recognition with placings to grow the game. We need more teams, not less teams... the best teams will still end up playing each other in the finals...

even if more euro teams play, then we have the problem of having to see the same teams at each tournament. tbh, that gets boring quick. besides, euros have more opportunities than the rest of the world. i would rather see asian teams and oceanic teams play with the big teams and watch them grow, and see how far they can make it.

you would rather see them getting destroyed every time? i arent think that and what do you mean its getting boring look at what tsm and navi did yesterday i guess australians like different cs im down with that thats why you have asian tournaments where such teams play. and of course eu will have more opportunities - they are the best in the world in this game and rightfully so 1 year ago i would say that na cs was getting close and would give them actually 4 na teams for a major but now even 1 is to much for australia and asia ....

Thats true. Probably because the more big tournaments there are, the more the eu teams focus on cs. More and more eu teams can get salaries by this and being able to play full time. I honestly don't see how this pattern can be changed

x2. only reason NA teams do "well", like getting 13-14 rounds against good teams is because they surprise with their playstyle. If the european teams prepared like they do against other european teams the NA teams would been crushed.

While this is partially true, you act as though NA is somehow prepared for EU the other way around and EU is the only one not prepared to face new playstyles.

Haha if you go to an European event as an American team I hope you prepare and study they European play style. But for the European t1 teams it's just another t3 team that they will beat easy if they play their own game so they don't waste their time to scout them. They need to focus and scout the real threats instead.(other t1 teams) and all t1 teams are European right now.

Lol, no one gives two shits about Australian csgo. Sure they proved to be at the same level of CS as NA, but the Europeans don't want to beat some chump Australians at CS go. They want to beat the muricans, that's why we keep getting invited, its the only chance Europe gets at besting the United States of Murica.

It's funny that teams like Liquid that are being paid to play CS still can't beat part time teams who have full time jobs and go to Uni like Immunity. Considering Vox and Immunity play CS in their spare time they are fantastic teams.

But you're trillions in debt to the Chinese? Your unemployment is HIGH, your crime rate is HIGH, your houses are built of fucking paper and cost a fortune. Land of the free my ass, your minimum wage is HALF of ours and your country has 12 times (roughly) the population hence larger economy. We just know how to manage ours better, that's why AU is the greatest country on earth. Soz 'murica.

The only continent that deserves the spots are EU, considering we have all the top eight teams here. Giving spots to NA is the reason of the low competition in big tournaments.

If you really want a fair tournament that includes teams from all over the world, you'd need to expand it: 6 Europe 2 North America 2 Oceania 1 Asia 1 South America 12 teams, which is difficult logistically and financially to put together. Anyone saying "Only EU teams deserve to go" really doesn't understand the point of competition. I assume that China should be able to send multiple gymnastics teams to the Olympics, while Switzerland sits out, right? Because we only want to see the best compete? Also, who wants to see the same 6 teams in every single tournament? I can only watch Fnatic vs. nV so many times before it's boring. You need teams like Immunity and Liquid to play in these tournaments. It's how they get better, and how we keep the games interesting. Plus, upsets are always extremely entertaining, though they are rare.

Any T2 EU team is a solid opponent for even top NA teams. Top T2 and any T1 EU team dismantles any of the teams I've listed previously. Even KeyD 16-8'd CLG in March.

What, do I really have to list every single one of the EU teams of T2 and higher? >Vox beat dignitas And got 16-3'd by both Fnatic and Navi, so what? EU scene is just the next level. Of course an underdog can win against a strong team, but it'll happen like 1 time out of 10. EU teams consistently win against NA & OCE with usually less than 10 rounds given away. It's not even interesting to watch, imo.

Considering the only thing you have to go off of is that T2 euro teams lost to vox, why isn't it the other way around? When these teams consistently beat vox/iM is a Bo3 then you can concede that they are better :)

dude just fuckin give up. there is no legitimate reason Aus teams deserve two spots when other teams (not just EU teams) miss out. For example, KeyD. I understand your patriotism but you're completely blind to the fact that Australia can't yet compete at the highest level. I assure you that c9 would beat Vox/immunity. After the NA shuffle settles down there's probably another 2-3 teams that would also beat them. You can't use the excuse that more exposure -> better results in time. KeyD had zero exposure and still took a map off a t1 team and placed top8.

2 spots is reasonable as long as it doesn't detract from another region.

Well it does already tbh. both NA and AUS take away x amount of spots for the EU teams who really are 10 times better than them.

Maybe in 1 tournament in a year, otherwise they should ALWAYS have to qualify first. Being from an exotic place should not give any privileges.

Why would you want to lower the average quality of the teams in the tournament? I like to see new teams play, but the skill difference is 2 huge to be enjoyable imo. Imo there should be no spots determined by geographic location but rather mixed qualifiers (katowice 2015 qualifiers style).

If people really wanted the scene to improve globally, they'd understand that teams from AUS need either two spots, or more international tournaments. As things are at the moment with just one team going, that one team learns a lot whilst the rest of AUS stays behind. That said I do think that other regions and countries also deserve more spots so they can develop. A larger team pool would be more realistic for this to happen. Though it would be interesting to hold a tier 2/3 tournament to give other teams recognition and an opportunity to develop in the game.

The only reason I watch tournaments is when an Aus team plays in it. I'm way too bored watching the same times play against each other over and over, I'm sure there are a lot of viewers like me as well. Also look at the ESL qualifiers and look how many NA teams are playing vs Oceanic teams (yep 0). If oceanic teams had more exposure overseas, they could start to learn to adapt to the eu meta and we could start seeing some results. They chances we have are only a couple times a year max, which isn't enough. NA scene however have multiple chances all year round.

NA scene however have multiple chances all year round. No they dont. NA teams only come to EU for majors, and the immediate next tournament. Tournament organisers would be happy if Vox/any Aussie team wants to attend events at their cost. Its just too far.

Maybe a year ago, but not necessarily anymore. As of now, results on LAN are 2-1 to iM. Whilst Vox are a good team and can perform, nationally in Australia they've had a lot of competition this past year and everyone has finally caught up. With the addition of yam its hard to tell at the moment how well he will fit into the team and their current playstyle as they haven't attended any events. From what we've seen of Ustilo and the 10 days they've had to prac with him in the team, immunity have picked up someone that fits in quite well. So saying Vox is a lot better than iM currently is completely wrong until we see LAN results.

If AU/OCE Teams had the same conditions and same development of the game and eSports in general they would compete with the euros easily. VoxE went to Katowice with pure skill, they have full-time jobs outside of the game. If you sent them to EU for 6 months with a salary they would easily be able to compete with the best.

Only the top 5-6 teams' players play cs full team, rest of the teams have university and school and jobs etc. And just FYI, VoX did good, but stop overhyping them. We will soon know how good vox is,katowice was just 3 games. I want to see more of vox,but you really are overhyping them, and no they wont come close to any of the top teams. If all countries had the same conditions and development of the game and eSports in general, they all would compete with the Euros easily.

I think both NA and OCE should remain at 1 slot and EU teams should get an additional slot. So many good teams get fucked over just because they're from EU.

I would rather to see 1 spot to Asia than 2 to Australia. Ok, Australia has rly good teams, but being good can't tell you how many spots you gonna have. Because by this logic EU should get all slots.
