PiTER have announced that Jan "wayLander" Rahkonen has left the team to serve for the Finnish army.

The 21-year-old talent will put his gaming career on hold for six months to complete his military service, which is compulsory in Finland.

Igor "⁠dERZKIY⁠" Radosavlevich, a 19-year-old Belarusian currently residing in St. Petersburg, has been offered a trial by the team after impressing during his time in GGWP, PiTER added.

wayLander will serve in the Finnish army

The Russian team will make their first LAN appearance with the new lineup at the offline qualifier for ESL One Cologne, which will take place on July 25-26.

With these changes, PiTER now have:

Basically they pay all your "essential" expenses. Often it's quite a bit more than 400 - 500 euros a month, that's just the base amount. There are limits to it, of course you can't have a really expensive apartment or something like that, but it's enough to cover your living expenses (which is pretty good).

Actually, I don't think it sucks. We had it in Germany for the longest time. The actual military service is a bit..meh...useless. BUT: it does teach you a bit of responsibility and discipline, which I think, for today's average teenager, is very, very necessary, more than ever, in fact. You wouldn't believe how colossally retarded many 17-18 year olds are around here, equipped with the ever lovely "fuck it" attitude, that's a lovely combination. :/

Could be. The army rules are not as strict in Denmark. I have a blood disease called haemophilia, and I can't join the army due to that. If you have glasses, there is an insanely big possibility for you to not be able to join the army either. You can actually refuse the offer, and instead work as an ambulance helper or something similar for I think about 6 months. Can't remember the exact rules, but you can at least reject the offer to join the army.

You get assigned (although you have some say in the decision) a "specialty", like combat engineer (me), artillery, anti-tank etc. and then you do shit related to that for 6-12 months. Everyone does camping (probably not the right term but whatever) and general discipline/army stuff, but a lot of your training is related to your specialty. Combat engineers set up mines and blow shit up and stuff like that. The artillery guys shoot their annoying fucking big guns all day and make a ton of noise.

Yup. Up to a certain age at least. With that said, our military is quite severely underfunded, at least from the point of view of a regular soldier. For example, the standard issue assault rifle we use was designed in 1962. And by "designed", I mean "copied" - it's basically an AK-47. While it's all reliable and stuff, it's starting to show it's age. Due to this, NATO discussions are quite frequent in Finland, as most people realise that we would be in no position to defend our country if someone like Russia were to attack. Joining NATO would also probably piss off Russia, with whom we currently have an OK relationship, so the majority of people think that it's not worth the risk.

He's a Finnish citizen, lives in Russia, represents Finland and therefore goes to the Finnish Army. Doesn't matter where he has lived. If you're Finnish, you will serve in the Finnish military. What would Finland do if he refuses to do his military service? I'm assuming this policy is to prevent people from leaving the country just to avoid military service. It doesn't seem right to me anyway. wayLander hasn't lived in Finland in 15+ years (I'd guess), so he hasn't relied on or contributed to Finland in any way. Why start now?

He's a citizen of Finland, so either he goes to army or non-military service (work in nursery, hospital, library etc for 1 year) or jail. That's our law. Obviously he wants to go to army as he chose that, its a good + teaching experience. Also, there's ways to get away with it (e.g. just saying you use drugs), but I guess he feels at least that much of a Finn that wants to finish it with pride.

the difference is that the name "Finnish Army" would suggest that they would be also used as an offensive army though the "Finnish Army" is called Finnish Defence Forces for a reason, it is only used for defending and it is not a real force, just a "threat" / "insurance".. also why would they change it into this article? cause the name of the "army" is Finnish Defence Forces.. thus the article is not accurate. Also the serving time is 6, 9 or 12 months.. not just 6 as this article suggests. wayLander pretty much has no say in how long he'll be serving.

same here and I server 12, and I dont regret it at all.. thats why I have "pretty much".. he has but close to none or so.. If they want they'll keep u for sure, especially if u dont behave. -edit- I had a friend with 1 month old daughter serving along my side and he wanted to get out in 6.. what happened? 12.

Flat/debts and electricity bills will be paid during your service. Also you get a lot less money for first 6 months.

Of course people living alone gets some help from the government, but a recruit in the Finnish Army gets paid 5.1euros a day. 71.4e / 2weeks. of course your rent will be payed by the government, and people just dont take debts before joining the army ;P
