DH Cluj to host next CS:GO major

DreamHack has announced that it has partnered with PGL and Valve to host the next CS:GO major in Cluj-Napoca, in late October.

After hosting two majors at its Winter events, DreamHack has announced another Valve-sponsored CS:GO tournament, this time to be held in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, from October 28 to November 1, in cooperation with PGL.

The venue selected for the event is the Polyvalent Hall, a state-of-the art multi-purpose indoor arena that opened last year and that can accommodate over 10,000 people.

DreamHack Cluj will span a total of five days, the first of which will be played at a closed studio. After this, the tournament will be moved to the Polyvalent Hall for a four-day stage show that will be produced by DreamHack together with PGL.

"We’re thrilled to bring a CS:GO Major to DreamHack Cluj-Napoca, as we’ll have the chance to create a 4-day stage show in front of the amazing Romanian eSports fans, as well as attract fans worldwide," Tomas Lyckedal, DreamHack’s Business Development Director, said in a statement.

"Together with our partner PGL, we have the possibility to create the most unique media production, and ultimately the most memorable event in CS:GO ever."

Despite requests from the community for the majors' prize fund to be increased, the Romanian event will offer $250,000 in prize money - the exact same figure of the previous six majors.

Half of the 16 participants have been determined by their performances at the previous major, ESL One Cologne. The remaining spots will be filled through a qualifying process that will start with an online phase leading up to an offline event in Stockholm.

The previously-announced DreamHack Open Stockholm has been restructured to act as the offline qualifier for the major. This event will take place from September 22-26 at two different locations: the Monster Energy DreamHack Studios and the Annexet Stockholm Globe Arenas, where a live audience of 2,000 people will watch the decider matches.

The bottom eight teams from ESL One Cologne will comprise half of the participants for DreamHack Cluj's offline qualifier, which will see 16 sides split into four groups. Details about how the remaining eight spots will be filled will be revealed soon.

The team list for this qualifier currently looks as follows:

The news is likely to spell trouble for ESWC as DreamHack Cluj falls on the exact same dates as the French company's Paris Games Week tournament, which will have $80,000 on offer.

Tickets to DreamHack Cluj are already on sale at esportshop.eu, with prices ranging from €5 (single day ticket) to €90 (VIP tickets).

depends where you were in Romania. In Cluj-Napoca, there are much less gypsies than in Bucharest, so i'll guess you will not see them there. Also, cluj napoca is a very nice city with lots of young people and a very good night life.

But the only thing that I found weird was that there were literally no teenagers around in the inner city. Don't know where they were. Think of Cluj as a MUCH better version of Ploiesti. The city is awesome, people are nice there, it has a very nice history, nice arhitecture(unlike Ploiesti who was ruined in the second world war by the americans, and after that by the earthquake, so basically in Ploiesti there's nothing old, all the arhitecture is communist) and damn, about 80000-100000 students.

Cheats in moba is extremely game changing in the higher lvl. Knowing when they push bot, gank mid and where they have wards etc can snowball the game so much. That's why riot have new devices for all the players so no mouse/keyboard have cheats in them.

This is nonsense. If you're by any means trying to say that Poland is a better place to host a major than Romania, you're dumb. It's the same thing. Actually, the news that a major will be hosted in Romania received much more positive criticism than the news regarding a major in Poland back in 2014. Remember how Thorin destroyed your country and said that it's a shit country and that no major should ever be hosted in the 3rd world Eastern-Europe and all that non-sense that got him suspended off the major. And he, together with other such ignorants, obviously proved to be wrong. The 2 majors in Katowice were absolutely amazing and there will be a 3rd because of the very supportive crowds over there. So Romania is not taking your major away. This is a major organized by Dreamhack and PGL while the one in Katowice is being organized by ESL. And I just told you that there a lot of people interested in teams like NiP (they have quite a big fan base in Romania), VP, Fnatic (this is one of the few countries in which people actually cheer for Fnatic), TSM, Envy and so on. It's true that there are close to no Romanian teams that ever made it big. Still, CS and the pro scene are really popular over here. It sucks that Major will be happening in Cluj instead of Bukarest or other city with bigger venue. Don't get me wrong it looks solid, but Katowice and Cologne set the pole so high and 5 k people in crowd won't be the same.

Im sure their will be another major between this one and Katowice, the Dubi tourney is basically a major but with 8 teams which = more money for all those teams. A NA major would be cool but it would be the most exspensive major for travel costs because EU makes up around 50% of major teams. Can someone tell me what is so amazing about PGL production?

Both CLG and cloud9 were the first teams to qualify for ESL Katowice, which was an international qualifier. CLG beat Titan and G2, cloud9 beat mouz and inshock CLG might not be top 10 and c9 might not be top 5, but they still can shit on tier 2/3 euros

They are using something similar to a septic tank. And yes there are 'hillbilly' villages in the U.S that are using those too. It's nothing unusual about that. What's the incentive, from Valve's side, to increase the prize money? Sticker sales and viewership have been growing steadily. Why spend more money? This major (it's in the title) it's too close from the last one. Not good. This can lead to some fatigue from public and even teams. The one if December would "sufficient".
