MIXCAT will attend DreamHack Open Stockholm without Joel "jOELZ" Aalto, Miikka "suNny" Kemppi has revealed.

The Finnish team claimed the final European spot at the Swedish event after edging out Reason Gaming 2-1 in the third-place decider of last weekend's online pre-qualifier.

Many looked at MIXCAT's attendance with anticipation to finally see Joel "⁠jOELZ⁠" Aalto on LAN. The 20-year-old is widely regarded as one of the hottest prospects in Europe but has earned a reputation for skipping offline events every time his teams qualify for them.

Miikka "⁠suNny⁠" Kemppi has now revealed via Twitter that the team will be fielding Niko "⁠naSu⁠" Kovanen in Stockholm as jOELZ has ruled himself out of the event, with the reasons remaining unclear.

MIXCAT have been drawn in Group A, alongside Cloud9, Immunity and dignitas, and will face the North American side in the first round of the tournament. The Finnish team will attend the event with:

This guy is a fucking joke, wow, he's pure disgrace to the Finnish CS scene. He should man up at least once in his life, stopping being a coward, and attend his first fucking lan. He's obviously cheating, that's why he can't play anywhere else, only on his own computer. If he ever decides to attend a lan he will have to play clean, and he will be exposed and will be even more ridiculed than he already is (and that's a lot)... that is why he will never attend any lan. So, his teams always gets unfairly 'boosted' by his suspicious performances, that's why I say he's stealing. But he's right, even with all his dodges to play offline, the organizers still able him to compete, he's smart to keep doing his thing, easy money, easy allowed money.

from my oppinion it should be like this: If you attend as a team, you should go to the lan with that roster what you have attended the online qualifiers. If naSu would have played from the beginning, what would the result be? Maybe they wouldn't even had qualified for the lans. I think there is something to think about for the future qualifiers, especially majors.

From my view, it seems that he is either a very competitive person who never wants to lose or has a disorder that limits his behavior in social situations. Of course, it would make sense for a competitive person to attend this qualifier, since it's the only way to have a chance at attending the next Major Tournament. On top of that, just getting to the Major Tournament itself is a big incentive, since the mysterious stickers give you a big amount of money. However, the other teams at this qualifier are tough and some of them have been at a Major Tournament before. Thus, a competitive person might want to avoid losses so much that he won't attend since the chance of winning the event or at least making it near the top is so small. On the other hand, jOELZ might face mental breakdowns or other issues when put under pressure or social situations where there are lots of people focusing on what he's doing. If I recall correctly, the Finnish player aslak had issues with working under pressure (e.g. while taking an important test at school), the effects of which he minimized with medical pills. Hence, it is not completely far-fetched to reckon jOELZ would have a social disorder of some sort. Now that his teammate suNny revealed something very intriguing on Twitter, the latter guesstimate seems more likely. suNny stated that jOELZ hasn't shared his reasons not to go to the LAN with anyone including the MIXCAT team. If he was just an overly competitive person not wanting to lose, he could probably admit it with no problem. However, it seems like he has reasons not to go that he is embarrassed of sharing, meaning that the social disorder of some sort (maybe a Social Anxiety Disorder) seems to fit his case very well. Either one of those, or he could just be the biggest Internet troll of all time and takes pride in that. Unless jOELZ comes up with a solid statement of his own, we can't draw valid conclusions, only steer towards an estimate that sounds more likely. How did he behave at Assembly Winter 2013? Can his teammates (shaker, ScurK, natu, allu) share anything? Was he overly quiet and shy or behaving normally?

Gotta feel bad for the finnish scene right here. It just sums up how deep of a slump it is. It's sad joelz decided to "dodge" yet another lan event. He is a great player and definitely not cheating. I just wonder why people decide to play with him even if they KNOW for sure he won't attend offline events. I just don't get the point. It's like taking one step forward and two steps back every single time. It's not right towards the other teams (for example SK), and it is putting finnish cs in a bad position overall. By now he is a wasted potential and people should move on and try to compete without him. On the other hand, banning him from attending these qualifers would be wrong. I guess he has the right to play just for the sake of having fun.

This is a real tough one, I do think that if a person continuously choose not to attend LAN that maybe they are just playing for fun, and may not like all the limelight that comes with public events. I don't for one minute think he was cheating, and I think that's stupid to even suggest that. It would be great for the chap if he did attend one LAN further down the line just to prove his own point. My team lost to MIXCATS, how ever I don't hold it against them as a team. that's my opinion any ways :)

Well to be honest no matter what the reason was this time to not attend DreamHack it is still pretty wrong against other players ( specially with JoelZ when we know his lan history), because in theory I could make my own team to qualifications and buy top pro players to play in that team and carry that to the main event. Then in that main event I would player with my friends instead. So there should be strict rules about players who can play in these teams and also strict deals that only these players are allowed to play in the main tournaments. Of course if something unexpected happens ( broken arms, serious family stuff etc..) that is different situation. But this was not unexpected...
