The next Intel Extreme Masters stop for CS:GO in San Jose, California has had its first two teams announced for the $100,000 tournament, as well as the official format.

IEM San Jose will take place inside the SAP Center Arena, or "The Shark Tank," from November 21-22 in San Jose, California and offer $100,000 via its CS:GO tournament.

The format has now been officially announced by ESL for the event: eight teams will play a single elimination, best-of-three bracket across the two days of the event.

The first two teams to attend the event have also been announced and they are:

Vincent "⁠Happy⁠" Schopenhauer's EnVyUs and Finn "⁠karrigan⁠" Andersen's TSM will therefore be the first two announced teams to attend IEM San Jose. The two teams are something of rivals following recent offline clashes, such as nV's tense 2-0 victory at DreamHack Open London.

The event will also play a key role in determining the attendance of teams for the final stop of the Intel Extreme Masters circuit, at the IEM World Championship in Katowice.

Eight teams, two days, ALL BO3 matches, already better than the major's, pretty sad. The only "downside" is the single elim, outside of that it's better.

It's only 2 days, anything other than single elimination would require BO1 or a longer tournament. I live an hour's drive away from the venue but its 16+ and I'm 14.75 RIP I'll still try to get in I guess

I believe it was 16+ Why? is that low or high? Edit: its 17 actually. No way i'll pass for 17. I swear to got it was 16 before, because I thought i may have a chance to pass. Edit2: I can actually go with a parent!!! The hard part is going to be finding an adult to go with me or my friends though

why would you have age limit on e-sport event? It doesn't make sense. Same with NA restriction laws for 21 to drink alcohol. No sense, what so ever.

Yeah I wasn't saying you're stupid or wrong, just that it's impossible to not do that. I agree that it's better than the major, and I actually heard valve was considering this vs dreamhack as the major. It came out of an unreliable friend who claimed there would be a CS tourney at twitchcon though so I doubt it.

it is 17+ but you can go with your parents, your parents must sign a waiver that is on the website. From the official iem website: The minimum age to attend IEM San Jose is 17 years. All attendees under 17 will have to be in the physical presence of a guardian and will have to bring a waiver.
