Format for DH Open Cluj revealed

DreamHack has announced the format and schedule for the upcoming CS:GO major, in Cluj-Napoca.

From October 28 to November 1, the Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca will play host to what is likely to be the last CS:GO major tournament of the year, where 16 teams from all over the world will duke it out for their share of a $250,000 prize pool.

The tournament will kick off with a double-elimination group stage in which every match will be played in a best-of-one format except the decider game, which will be a best-of-three clash. The biggest difference from the format used at ESL One Cologne is the fact that the Lower Bracket teams will no longer be drawn into new groups after day one.

Cluj major will be played at the Polyvalent Hall

At the end of the group stage, the top two teams from each group will advance to the best-of-three, single-elimination playoffs.

1st or 2nd place is irrelevant though. If any single group stage match should be bo3, it should be the elimination match because that one is actually important.

Its not irrelevant, it has a big difference in seeding, but then again, there are most probably some upsets in the BO1's and the randomizing the pairs after the seeds.

IMO there's no better format than this one. Bo1 in groups is always random because of either maps or current players' form. And if you lose match you still have a chance to reach playoffs but you have to win bo3 that isn't so random like bo1. Team simply has to confirm that they deserve for slot. Personally i think the best option is when all games are in bo3 format and in addition there is looser bracket, but it's never happened because the major'll last too long. This DH's going to be great!

You dont always have that chance after losing your match. If you lose your first two Bo1's you're still OUT.

Yes, thats true but if u are not able to win at least one bo1 in group it means that u don't deserve for playoffs, u are too weak to go through the group and its quite fair. But I have to admit that this format isn't perfect .Grand final should be bo5 anyway. It will be better for audience and teams as well.

You could still have bad luck. IMO the first lower bracket match should also be Bo3. Then it would be perfect. Because after that Bo1 one team goes home. It could be a good team with 2 unlucky Bo1 that goes home.

For the people saying it should be the elim match that's bo3: even if it was that way you can still be eliminated playing bo1's. Imo it would be worse if you could lose with a 1-2 record in bo1s, while some teams that lost their first matches earn the chance to bo3 for who goes home. Doesn't really make any more sense. Ideally it would all be bo3, but bo3 decider > bo3 elim since it's more likely the bad teams will be in the elim matches. You still need to lose 2 maps to get eliminated; so win at least one map and you guarantee you'll play a bo3.

IMO grandfinal should be BO5 and add BO3 to the elimination matches if needed give us more days of majors, like maybe a whole week... but nonetheless, Best cast crew, all games live(no games played the same time), decider match BO3 and all matches played on stage = best major "ever" so far can't wait for the pick'em, for teams and for signatures... hope it isn't shit like last dreamhack
