G2 astound Virtus.pro, to semis
G2 become the second team to make the semifinals of DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca after defeating Virtus.pro in an immense upset, 2-0 (16-10 on de_cache and 19-17 on de_train).
The second playoff match of day four of DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca was a slightly deceiving one, with many projecting the dominant Virtus.pro side to sweep G2.
However, on de_cache many still remembered the old Kinguin's lineup commanding display of force on that map against Virtus.pro back during the FACEIT Stage 2 finals in Valencia, and the words of those calling for a quick 2-0 came back to haunt them.
VP kicked off the CT half of the map with a pistol round win and began to gather steam, which included Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski getting 4 ludicrous TEC-9 kills against an ecoing G2 side rushing out mid.

jkaem was the Terminator on map one
However, the G2 engine, powered chiefly by Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad Inc., soon kicked into full gear as the European team began exploding out onto bombsites and winning aim duels left and right. Aside from a crowd-favourite knife kill from Jarosław "pashaBiceps" Jarząbkowski onto a scoped-in Ricardo "fox" Pacheco, the half generally marched to this tone as G2 finished up 8-7.
The second half was even more lopsided in G2's favour, and despite Snax getting many successful entries, it was jkaem who seemed to pull multi-kill rounds out of the hat like a magician, a performance which had a huge role in G2's 16-10 victory on the first map of de_cache.

VP's antics were not enough on de_train
de_train saw G2 start on the CT half and pick up a much needed pistol round. The team almost lost an anti-eco, but jkaem once again saved the day with a P90 spraydown.
Despite picking up the first gunround, Virtus found themselves facing a tenacious G2 defense, which kicked off in earnest in the next round afer Håvard "rain" Nygaard won a one-versus-three. The score then rocketed up to 9-2 in G2's favour with VP unable to find a tactical answer on their T side.
The Poles recovered and salvaged the final four rounds of their T side, bringing the score to 9-6 for G2. Mikail "Maikelele" Bill and his men won a chaotic second half pistol with the odds stacked against them and began to pull ahead, going up 12-6 before VP took another round.
Big stages require big brass, and Virtus.pro somehow (certainly somewhat due to Filip "NEO" Kubski's AWPing and pashaBiceps rifling) began to claw their way back into the game, until the score stood at 15-13.
However, G2 continued to show resilient and skill-precise Counter-Strike, taking back the final two rounds to move the game to overtime and then picking up the required overtime rounds in order to win de_train 19-17 and shock Virtus.pro.
