EnVyUs survive G2 scare

EnVyUs came from behind to beat G2 2-1 and advance to the grand final of DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca (10-16 on de_dust2, 25-21 on de_inferno and 16-7 on de_cache).

The opening map of the series, de_dust2, began with G2 taking the lead after pushing long in the pistol round and holding down the site really well. However, just like in previous games, they fell short in an anti-eco round, giving EnVyUs the opportunity to bring the scoreline to 3-1 in their favor.

A push on short in the following round put G2 back in the game and put them on a winning run that saw them overturn the deficit to 4-3. EnVyUs then displayed some great defensive work in A, keeping G2's players at bay, but the Frenchmen were unable to build on that win, which resulted in an economic reset. G2 picked up two rounds in a row, bringing the scoreline to 6-4, but then EnVyUs came in charging with the Desert Eagles to reduce the deficit to just one round. G2 then took two rounds in a row to make it 8-5 but they were unable to go all the way as Kenny "kennyS" Schrub put his AWP to work.

An aggressive push from Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad in the pistol round as CT earned him two frags in the middle area and handed G2 the round in a silver platter. The former Kinguin team would remain in the driving seat, with the scoreline blooming to 14-7, when a triple kill from Nathan "NBK-" Schmitt gave EnVyUs some much-needed breathing room.

EnVyUs strung a few rounds together, reducing the gap to 10-14, but G2's timely defense in B, coupled with an ace from Dennis "dennis" Edman, gave the Scandinavia-based side a convincing 16-10 victory.

jkaem was on fire on dust2

The map that followed was de_inferno, where G2 once again started off the game in great fashion, picking up a 3-0 lead. EnVyUs then picked themselves up and began a fantastic run that saw them take seven rounds in a row, but G2 refused to throw in the towel and the brought the scoreline to 9-6 thanks to some crucial actions from dennis and Håvard "rain" Nygaard.

The second half began with G2 taking yet another pistol round, but they were caught off-guard in the first anti-eco by NBK-'s Five-Seven. EnVyUs then stretched their lead to 11-7, only to see G2 pull back once again following an incredible 1vs4 clutch in the A site. G2 went on to win five of the next six rounds, forcing EnVyUs to call a tactical pause. The strategy paid off perfectly as EnVyUs took a 15-13 lead, but G2 won the final two rounds to take the game to overtime.

The first overtime ended with 2-1 halves going each way. G2 then started the second overtime on the CT side and took a 3-0 lead thanks to some impressive AWP work by Ricardo "fox" Pacheco. With three match points in their hands, G2 were unable to close out the game, with EnVyUs levelling the score at 21-21 before picking up four consecutive rounds in the third overtime.

NBK picked up the auto-sniper in overtime and wreaked havoc

NBK picked up the auto-sniper in overtime and wreaked havoc

The final map of the series was de_cache, where EnVyUs got off to a great start, picking up the first two rounds. The French team were then caught off-guard by a force buy, but G2 got a taste of their own medicine as EnVyUs won the following round on eco.

The game continued to follow the same trend, as every time G2 managed to win a round they lost the following one, with disastrous results for their economy. Powered by a great display from Dan "apEX" Madesclaire, EnVyUs secured a 10-4 lead, but an impressive 1vs5 clutch by rain gave G2 some momentum going into the second half.

G2 won the pistol round on the CT side quite easily but they were unable to build on that win, being taken down once again in a second-round force-buy by EnVyUs, who would go on to win all the gun rounds to seal a 2-1 victory that puts them in the grand final of the major.

Blame maikelele for dying in front of boiler and made his team lost a 5v3 advantage to 2v3 by not telling his mates that the TS were going to CT arch. It was the first match point for G2 and that damn round lost them all. Also, that stupid molo suicide lol..

I was rooting for G2 but don't mind. This is just the aftermath of such an emotional match. Don't take it into heart :) I felt nV deserved Inferno because it primarily was 15-15 with G2 winning both pistols. So yeap...They won it fairly. Well, I really enjoyed fnatic's era as a fnatic fan :) Now it's your turn :) Remember that eras don't last forever. Enjoy it while it's there :)

Why do you care? Don't care about what other people think. fnatic didn't give a fuck so neither should you.

You have to take into account that g2 was starved on money as CT almost every round. They won one and then lost giving them less weapon rounds in that match than envyus. So I would say those pistol wins justified themselves, especially since they lost both(?) second rounds to envy. I feel g2 was the better team on that inferno game. Sadly they've had 1-2 months to prepare with this lineup with only maikelele with experience in a major out of groupstage. I really look forward to what they can achieve in the next couple of tournaments :)

Don't get me wrong. G2 played insane and I was really wanting them to win but they made it full default 3-0 for both pistols if I am not mistaken. It is a little bit of luck in CS sometimes. Sometimes you lose the money swinging rounds and suddenly you have to double eco...and then win one lose one then another 2 rounds. It can be really rough but whatever it is....the fact is G2 lost and nV won :(

Well, as CT g2 got 3 consecutive rounds to start with, then it was back and forth untill change of half pretty much, and as T they won pistol, lost next 3 rounds, won 4, lost 2, won 2. So the envyus economy as CT was far better than what g2 had. And in overtimes they lamed with autosnipers. So I don't really agree with the fact that nV was the deserving victors of the map, although, I do think this is a good thing for G2. Starting of this lineup with a major final wouldn't really help them in the long run. I think they will need to check up on teams to have consistant results in the future.

You may be right :/ Come to think of it, I think G2's T Inferno pushes were more lethal and they won more full buys versus nV and that's impressive. If G2 keeps this up at this rate, they may even beat fnatic regularly( not TSM since they are their kryptonite ). But what I fear is that G2 will become like C9...you know...a one off thing. That is a high possibility that that may happen.

G2 played amazingly and I really wantedt hem to win. These guys deserved it for what they did so far. Then again, team with the most rounds wins, so CG to EnVy. Hope they will win the title at least since they crushed G2 dream :) Btw, MvP of this tournament - jkaem !!!

I did not expect that in 2015 would see a major final between Envyus (ex-Verygamers) vs NiP (GTR&F0rest) , This game reminds all finals between the two teams in 2012~2013 , BEST MAJOR EVER

I hope after this tournament all haters of Fox will finally shut up and admit he is still an amazing player and I think that G2 guys proved that communication in English is no problem for them at all. Current lineup is great by my opinion and there is no need to drop Fox for some Scandinavian player.

fox is not a bad player, but he usually "off" during games and make mistakes that professional players can not make, as in eco 17th round of Cache they lost eco after that no sense movement. I believe that today in the world there are people better than fox to do your function , but I can not deny that he played very well this major

Do not forget that team chemistry plays a great role in how a team performs, you can't get 5 equal players to play 5 different roles. However I do get your point, but I think that for now things are going fine for G2, especially those site holds by fox and jkaem. That duo is fire.

the chemistry of this team is very good indeed, Fallen said that during the bootcamp the only teams they failed to win was the G2 and NiP, I believe the G2 may not have the best players in the world, but are playing very good , is a new team Tier1 , I would not change anything on this team

Yes agree. Fox is in my opinion a player with great abilities mainly with the awp, but his game sense and movement is so stupid and retard, sometimes he plays like a bot and that's what he has worst. I dont know if he even look at the map but it looks like not.

Yeah because a boost allowing to see all of Overpass is totally comparable with a weapon that is in the game and costs $5000 to buy. You're completly retarded my good friend.

lol, it's very easy to take down an auto-noob, it may have a surprise effect and win a round, but after that it takes just as much as an other AWP to take down. Plus the gun costs $5000, so when it's dropped, it's dropped. It made G2 tilt and lose the psychological advantage, it was everything Envy needed. Flusha plays P90 a good 20% of the time, it's the same shit, it's a rage weapon, and it works. Nothing to complain about, if you can't take it down, you can't win the match. They were in semis, Envy weren't going to make them gifts. Analysts said it, what makes the difference between two teams can often be their ability to use the diverse powerful weapons the game puts at their disposal. Envyus know to do that. Used to be the CZ, then it was the Tec9, and this time it was the auto-noob. Nothing to be sad about, it's amazing how they didn't let go and even found a way to comeback, it was a great match. Those complaining about the use of the auto-sniper like it was cheating have to be fucking guardian master at best. And I was told G2 used it the day before against VP, so yeah, just drop the whining already. It's a weapon, it's in the game.

It's an excellent comparison, they are both rage weapons, they make the ennemy team tilt. Again, G2 used the auto against VP the day before. There is absolutely nothing to complain about, it's the game.
