Valve announces R8 nerf

Valve has announced that it will release an update to limit the impact of the R8 revolver.

This week's CS:GO update brought important gameplay changes, with the introduction of the R8 revolver being the one that caused widespread uproar as casual and professional players alike complained about the excessive stopping power of the new gun, which is priced at just $850.

According to Valve, the new update will bring the R8's values "to be more in line with other weapons", which means, among other things, that the damage has been lowered and the time it takes to fire has been increased.

"While it typically takes more time to generate enough data to drive an update (and gameplay updates are always a bit disruptive), in this case it’s clear that we got the damage wrong and can respond immediately," Valve wrote.

"As experience with other new weapons (e.g., CZ75a and M4A1-S) has shown us, it may require several iterations over a longer period to find the stable values that create interesting strategic choices for players. We’re committed to monitoring usage and adjusting the values as required."

Regarding the other gameplay changes brought by Tuesday's update, including the tweaks to the behavior of assault rifles and pistols, Valve stated that it is "still too early to determine their impact" and vowed to continue to monitor the new meta to ensure that "CS:GO remains fun, skillful, and balanced."

Impressive that they monitor situation. As they mention,they got "Experience" from the previously guns they put in(m4a1&Cz) Yet they make same mistake again? I am not that worried about the r8,since nerf was expected. The problem i see is that they change sensual things all the time. Like changing movement speed,nerfing weapons after Whole 2 years, then changing sound. After you got used to it they now changed spray impact. I am getting old,its hard to get used to it :) There are no need to change things all the time. Cs 1.6 was a great game,not thanks to the updates.

If R8 secondary requires 2-3shots instead of 1 to kill (+armor) I think it would be balanced. And for primary dmg should be around 60 imo. To balance this out one would increase bullet count OR increase price to smth like high end Smg and keep primary dmg. That way is has a high risk high reward nuance and can still be used in some specific situations with success - as it should be, a niche, fun pocket rocket as alt to .50 deagle.

I know this is partially oft topic but if volvo would do it like world Of tanks f.e., where there is a public TESTserver for every big patch wäre the community can TEST things and Wargaming has a chance to start balancing their stuff before it goes onto the real servers so if valve would implement the possiblity to either download a seperate client or go into "testserver mode" where you connect to special Servers there wouldnt be such outcries in the future because the community could actually tell Thema whats good or bad about a patch. I know that this needs work, money and time investet, but imo it would be totally worth it.

It was at the bottom before Skins came out and did somebody ask for it ? No, Valve saved their game, now it's big and they need to keep up with the other games - NEW CHAMPS always coming out for LoL, new champs/items for Dota2 - New Parts of CoD - New Cards for Hearthstone and Etc.. Every eSports game is constantly updated and if CS:GO stays in one place, people will get bored of it and leave soon after until a new case comes out.. if you are too stupid to realize simple things like these I won't even get into a serious debate with you because it's just not worth it. There was no skins on 1.6 yet still the player base was huge. And till this day theres still like 25k playing this game that doesn't have skins... A lot of people moved to source from 1.6. Still the game didn't have skins So it was inevitable for people to come from 1.6/source to go it was just a matter of time. What a bunch of greedy fucking bastard, they release a broken gun in their game, which no one asked for in the first place, and instantly starts to sell skins for it before even testing if the gun is viable in the current meta. What if your shit just ruined CSGO and has to be removed ? You can't fucking add a gun and force everyone to play with it if it's broken, for god sake, test it before and add skins after ?!! What about that pulling the trigger...That's an entirely new mechanic that just doesn't belong in CS and doesn't make sense compared to other weapons. Handle the delay between shots with the recoil as it's done for every other weapon as well...The trigger animation would still make sense..because if you release the trigger halfway it just fucks up your shot!

The weapon is so ridiculously OP they had to hardcode this limited fire rate. If it doesnt have that it would need to have even more unpredictable recoil than the deagle, and the right click fire mode already fills that role. Basically, there is no way it can have both fire modes without artificial restrictions on damage output. Its the worst game design Ive seen since I quit playing Starcraft.

It makes sense to me. They pretty much always introduce new guns overpowered so that pretty much everyone will use them. Then, when they have shit loads of data, they can determine how to optimally balance it. It always pisses people of, but I don't see people complaining about the CZ or the M4A1 now on the other hand. Just added some more diversity in the game. I don't think an alternative to the deagle necessarily have to be something bad.

i think i have a solution.. well clearly in 1.6 they didn't have so many weapons, they didnt release new either.. in go they tested and it worked.. people waren't so unhappy with the first gun released.. and gaben found himself with extra money in his pocket through more weapons and skins.. And as you see.. go is becoming more unbalanced for every year that comes.. they invent some new shit that destroys and takes away the feeling of CS game... Well if you have the chance to earn more and more money.. wouldn't you do the same ? he doesn't care anymore about people, the game is popular already.. Really I start to think that the whole Revolver stuff is just to cover up the big pile of crap which is the broken rifles, seriously, you can just throw off the window all that you've learnt about the spray patterns & the recoil mastering.
