Major qualifier blow for Team YP

Two of Team YP's players have been ruled out of the MLG Columbus offline qualifier due to visa issues, Vladislav "arch" Svistov has revealed.

On his Twitter page, Vladyslav "⁠arch⁠" Svistov revealed that he, Anton "⁠tonyblack⁠" Kolesnikov and Vadim "⁠DavCost⁠" Vasilyev have secured a visa permit to enter the United States, while Dmitry "⁠S0tF1k⁠" Forostyanko and Dmitriy "⁠Dimaoneshot⁠" Bandurka have seen their applications declined. 

The Ukrainian player added that Team YP are currently in talks with both MLG and Valve to find a solution to the problem, with the qualifier due to start in just nine days.


Dima and S0tF1k ruled out of the MLG Columbus qualifier 

This is the second time this month that Russian teams have had to deal with visa issues. Two weeks ago, Method were forced to attend the Game Show Global eSports Cup Finals with two stand-ins after Ivan "⁠spaze⁠" Obrezhan and Dmitriy "⁠facecrack⁠" Alekseyev were denied visas to enter Lithuania.

Team YP qualified for the MLG Columbus offline qualifier via the Last Chance tournament for CIS and European teams, beating Markus "⁠pronax⁠" Wallsten's Ancient in the final round.

The reason their visas got declined could be that the lady declining their visas at the embassy did not have sex the night before probably,.....even though i made that sound jokingly, but back in the day you could have your visa rejected just because the embassy agent you spoke with was having a bad day...., nothing special, its just that the agent felt like: "Well, this kid probably has more money than I do, f**k him, since I cant go for a vacation, I wont give him that chance either!" and thats it, your visa would be declined...... so, pretty sad, but it existed..... The best ppl to give visas are men in my experience back in the day, but unfortunately almost always people who work there are more like grumpy middle aged women, not always, but still...

I'm not sure of the specifics, but an easy explanation for this would be that the staff are technically employees of MLG and are being paid in their country of origin. Whereas the players could be winning money directly while in the US.

Well a spaniard has an easier time getting a visa because they're part of that visa waiver program with the US Department of State. So Arnau_Sil can go to the US whenever he wants, without even getting a visa because his country is a part of it. Russia, for obvious reasons lol, is not a part of it so they must go through the usual channels to get one. Since they are currently somewhat of an enemy of the US, it's near impossible to get it unless you literally fit all the parameters or quite simply someone in the Embassy in Moscow is have a good day.

Spain is a part of the visa waiver program... you don't even need a visa to enter the US as a visitor. Russia is clearly not a part of the visa waiver program, and since it is Russia, it makes it even more difficult to get one.

Afaik, all players from Europe who couldn't attend a LAN in US because of visa issues were from CIS or Russia. I don't know if the problem comes from problems in the US or not, but the fact that it's always from the same parts of the world but not only one specific country makes me think that it's rather the US who are more "picky" as to who they let in for some countries and not for some others. Regardless, it's sad.

My problem is not that they're picky, my problem is that they're picky for some countries and not for some others. I don't recall seeing as many visa problems for any other countries than CIS ones and Russia so far when a LAN was hosted in the US. Now, it's very well possible that the fault lies, by chance, in the hands of the players or the country of origin for each of these visa problems, but the pattern doesn't seem really consistent with that hypothesis.

The reason their visas got declined could be that the lady declining their visas at the embassy did not have sex the night before probably,.....even though i made that sound jokingly, but back in the day you could have your visa rejected just because the embassy agent you spoke with was having a bad day...., nothing special, its just that the agent felt like: "Well, this kid probably has more money than I do, f**k him, since I cant go for a vacation, I wont give him that chance either!" and thats it, your visa would be declined...... so, pretty sad, but it existed..... The best ppl to give visas are men in my experience back in the day, but unfortunately almost always people who work there are more like grumpy middle aged women, not always, but still...
