CLG qualify for major over Vexed

CLG have secured a place at the major following a nail-biting finish to a 2-1 series against Vexed (de_dust2 16-13, de_cbble 3-16, de_train 16-13).

Going into the next-to-last match at the MLG Columbus qualifier, Vexed picked de_dust2 to kick the series off. It paid off towards the start since they picked up the pistol round and two out of three gunrounds afterwards for a 6-1 lead as CT.

Opening kills in four of the following full-buy rounds helped CLG claw back and tie it up at 6-6, but in another one, where the Americans planted on A in a favorable situation, Vexed's full-defuse gamble paid off as Oskar "oskarish" Stenborowski defended his teammate successfully.

A great move by Karol "rallen" Rodowicz in a 1-on-2 gave Vexed a 9-6 half before Stephen "reltuC" Cutler showed up with a four-headshot highlight reel in the pistol round to make it even again at 9-9.

Three following rounds in a row went the Poles' way, but CLG refused to budge as they went on a streak of their own. Out of the following eight rounds, Vexed could only snatch one, as James "hazed" Cobb, reltuC and Tarik "tarik" Celik all played well to pick up a series lead at 16-13.

A streak-filled de_dust2 saw CLG take the series lead

The beginning of de_cbble looked very similar to the one on de_dust2. Damian "Furlan" Kislowski's team rallied to an 8-0 lead with none of the rounds being close, and not even a tactical timeout called out by CLG came to fruition right off the bat.

It took the struggling team 10 rounds to finally get on the board only to get "apEX'd" in round number 11 after reltuC couldn't prevail in a 1-on-2. A shoddy buy surprisingly resulted into a clean defence on the B bombsite, giving CLG a chance to get back on their feet.

That didn't happen however; three rounds on the CT side wasn't enough to afford a pistol round loss, which ultimately ended the second map at 16-3 for Vexed.

After the Poles followed map two with another pistol round win as CT on de_train, CLG came alive after a 2-on-3 victory in the first gunround, followed by a couple of scavenge rounds.

Everyone from Vexed played well in a decimation on de_cbble

Josh "jdm64" Marzano's triple and hazed's five kills in two more gunrounds furthered their team's lead to 7-3, but the streak was stopped by doubles from rallen and Furlan in a B bombsite retake.

After oskarish got a triple of his own, hazed's heroics didn't come to fruition, as Vexed tied the deciding map at 7-7 before it was CLG who took the closest lead possible at halftime.

The same team also managed to keep control due to tarik's three headshots in the second pistol, and the same man also saved his team opposing a scary deagle play from Karol "repo" Cybulski. After the pistol Vexed traded one round for five, including one where rallen and Dominik "GruBy" Swiderski combined for a 2-on-4 win at the B bombsite.

Thanks to that the Poles could take the lead at 13-12, but jdm64 stepped up with an AWP quad-kill, which included a double, to put it to a tie in an all-important round. The remaining three rounds went the Americans' way swiftly, as they qualified for the major after a very close series.

CLG more luck than skills .... They are on almost every Major, maybe even on each and never won, and will not do. Vexed par with top-tier teams, and they should go to major. Vexed have potential. CLG has not yet learned that they have no chance for win of Major ...
