NiP edge FlipSid3 in Columbus

MLG Columbus 2016 kicked off as Ninjas in Pyjamas defeated FlipSid3 19-17 on de_cache.

The first ever $1,000,000 CS:GO Major began with a best-of-one game between the 9th team on our rankings, Ninjas in Pyjamas and the 16th one, FlipSid3. Björn "THREAT" Pers, who is Ninjas in Pyjamas's coach, replaced Jacob "pyth" Mourujärvi in the lineup as the latter had visa issues and could not enter USA

The CT-sided FlipSid3 defused the bomb on the A-site as Vladyslav "bondik" Nechyporchuk got the first knife-kill of the tournament in the first round to kick off the first major in North America. Ninjas in Pyjamas had an early weapon buy on the third round but FlipSid3 stopped the ninjas and went on to win the subsequent round to extend the lead (4-0).

Ninjas in Pyjamas answered with a force-buy round win and Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg's 1v2 ensured the Swedes' second round (4-2). f0rest continued with triple opening kills as Ninjas in Pyjamas's B-site heavy play paid off (4-4). FlipSid3 chose to go for a double-AWP setup after struggling but that didn't help as THREAT & co. took their sixth consecutive round.

Adam "friberg" Friberg & f0rest almost managed to pull off a 2v5 but bondik survived with 8 HP to get his team their fifth round (8-5). At halftime, the score was 9-6 in favor of Ninjas in Pyjamas.

f0rest with a throwback performance

friberg showed up once again, this time on the CT-side pistol round as he got two kills on a 2v2 retake situation (10-6). The CIS-team's third round weapon buy paid off, bringing it to 11-7 and giving themselves a chance to come back.

The stand-in THREAT showed up in the 22nd round in a 2v3, grabbing up three kills and making it 12-9 but FlipSid3 answered right back and tied it at 12-12. It came down to the wire on the 25th round as f0rest prevailed over Yegor "markeloff" Markelov and Ninjas in Pyjamas took the lead once again (13-12).

Ninjas in Pyjamas were able to hold off FlipSid3 two more times and attained three match points (15-12). The force buy worked for Andrey "B1ad3" Gorodenskiy & company and forced Ninjas in Pyjamas to eco, leading to a 15-14 score as FlipSid3 pulled it back to take it to overtime (15-15).

Despite losing the first round of the MR3 overtime, first f0rest's quad-kill and then Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund's triple meant Ninjas in Pyjamas finished the CT-side 17-16 ahead. GeT_RiGhT stepped up again, this time on a 1v2 to get two match points for his team (18-16). The Swedes closed it out 19-17.

He hasn't been playing at that level for almost half a year... I think you are a little to hard on him :) He didn't look well one round, indeed, but had a couple of rounds, where his performance was critical to NiP. I think he showed great performance, overall, given the circumstances.

Both of them are star players since 2006 but at 2005 f0rest already had several good international tournaments with begrip, while neo was playing only domesticly.Afterwards neo won more majors, but f0rest attended more lans and won more price money.

But didint Neo play even earlier in old mousesports and Pentagram etc? Those were way before begrip was even heard of. Or is that some other Neo then?

Neo from mousesports is a different one.Neo played in Pentagram after 2006.I am 100% that f0rest has 1 more year as a cs pro/semi-pro at Begrip, where he played with other very popular names from sweden.

After little googling around I found first "major" lan attended by Pentagram with Neo was in 2004 GameGune. Edit: After googling for f0rest found out that he indeed started playing in 2005--> with Begrip. Guess you were not 100% sure after all. :P

Neo never had a single good game before WCG 2006 and his team never made a slightly deeper run. They were not a proffesional team untill 2006.In the same time f0rest was already a pro at 2005 with several good results.Learn 2 read.

Seems like NiP don't really have GeT_RiGhT left to clutch that much anymore, he was in two clutch-situations if I remember correctly on t-side. One he lost in a 1v2 with too little time to play with, so was forced to plant the bomb and got killed while planting. And the other 1vs2 he won. GeT_RiGhT seems like the first/second man running into a site nowadays, he does it good. Like in 1.6 GeT_RiGhT was never a lurker, except for his time in SK. GT still lurks but when they are attacking a site he seems to be the first one in or second which imo is odd, but seems to work. Why I think it is odd is because GT is so good at clutch-sitatuions. f0rest MVP the game though, daaamn bro! But one thing I don't like is to see GeT_RiGhT always being the one with "worse" weapons, like ump etc in weapon rounds. For an example, friberg had around 4,4k and he got the drop from a teammate while GeT_RiGhT had like 3.8k or something and bought ump with all nades.. Like why???? friberg have not been a stable player for a long time, better to let GeT_RiGhT get the weapon and friberg buys himself. Holding A with a ump is really hard, also so when they leave him alone so much like they did. You could see that pyth was missing on cache as CT, because he used to have perfect teamwork with GeT_RiGhT on A but this game GT was kinda alone on A all the time, even when they attacked.

Nope, this have been taken up in a interview over at fragbite when they started the SK-team. It was RobbaN that made GeT_RiGhT start lurking in 1.6, when he joined SK. Because RobbaN knew how smart GT really is and how he could read the game perfectly how the others was going to play. fnatic didn't really have a "lurker" when GeT_RiGhT played there. If someone was the lurker it was more often f0rest, because he was the one that often did play alone as t.

'fnatic didn't really have a lurker'.This setence made me laugh.Do you even know that carn was the one who invented the 'default setups',which are used from nearly 90% of the teams nowadays?Do you the default setup allowed players to play a lurker role?Yes get right was not the lurker we know from 2013 but he defenetely played that role at fnatic. You can check some demos, especially on dust2 and inferno ;).

He was doing really good on t side, being an actual entry fragger instead of an entry frag. On ct side he mostly held b solo so that's why he got killed, being in 1v3/1v4/1v5 situations

+101. Notice how much better is nip now entering sites. Proper flashes, smokes & mollies are making it way easier for him to take a head or two.

They finally realised that it's not 2013 anymore and they can't just enter a site with brute force.

Yeah I remember him being shot through the wall and he nearly died and he called in Xizt for assistance so he doesn't die. Sure, he might not be very effective (although he was) but his tactics were smart to the point where him being effective was not really necessary. Oh, and flipside was bad. He was mostly collecting information and not peeking too much!

Friberg's kills had a higher impact on the game though. It's very hard for threat to play at this level without proper training. Friberg was not that good this game but maybe next game he will be top fragging while threat will still struggle.

Xizt and Friberg were more on TILT , than threat. Right now Forest played amazing the entire game, GTR played very well in the T-Side. Threat had his impact both negative and positive but he played smart in gathering info in Mid Why were Xizt and Friberg soo much on Tilt , Friberg had two rounds USP and Eco where he sprayed down two , Need much better performance from these two. And Threat needs to do some death match practice. All DAY LONG TODAY
