shox wins HTC 1v1 invitational

The HTC 1v1 Invitational by PGL has concluded with Richard "shox" Papillon coming out on top over the rest of the competition. The tournament, which was a "first of its kind" featured a plethora of top tier players coupled with some of the most renown broadcast talent in CS:GO.

The first group stage of the tournament already treated us to some exciting upsets such as Julia "juliano" Kiran defeating Casper "cadiaN" Møller 2-1 in group A. Although the Secret fe player raised a few eyebrows following her great play she didn't end up advancing through her group, allowing Shahzeb "ShahZaM" Khan and Kenny "kennyS" Schrub through to the second group stage.

Group B saw a team kill situation, however, the Natus Vincere duo of Denis "seized" Kostin and Egor "flamie" Vasilyev were able to overcome their opponents to sweep their group for their team.

The tournament also featured legends of the Counter-Strike scene which was best shown in group C where Abdisamad "SpawN" Mohamed was competing. Although the Swede didn't manage to advance he surely allowed viewers to take a trip down memory lane to remember one of the all-time greats.

shox wins 1v1 Invitational over MICHU

In the final group we saw Zainab "zAAz" Turkie in action, however the Secret fe player would also end up being eliminated in place of Derek "desi" Branchen and Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom.

The second day saw the remaining eight players drawn into two groups and the upsets were set to continue. Of special note is Michał "MICHU" Müller's performance as he was able to take first place in group A after defeating Fabien "kioShiMa" Fiey and then flamie in the winner's match.

This group also saw Richard "shox" Papillon advance as the second place player into the semi-finals. Group B saw kennyS and seized advance in what was unsurprisingly the first batch of matches in the tournament to not feature an upset!

These results above set the stage for the first semi-finals out of which shox defeated seized while MICHU overcame kennyS respectively. In the final it was the French player that came out on top to secure the first place finish and $10,000.

HTC 1v1 Invitational by PGL final standings:

1. France Richard "shox" Papillon - $10,000

shox is a great player individually no doubt. But aim maps doesn't 100% prove how good aim a player has. You play the same small maps where u use the same kind of angles/peeks/plays over and over again. Being one of the best players is one thing, being one of the best 1v1 players really is another.

I agree aim maps definitely are not a good representation on how good a player is in a match, but they do show aim skills for sure, showing that although shox hasn't won much recently, he still is the same beast that we remember him as.

It's true, but tbh he is also probably the pro with the most experience on aim_map and that changes it all. Guy was literally 100-0 in 1on1 aim on ESL and he played it a fucking lot on CSS too.

That's not the point, just the fact that it doesn't show much about his form. I know about 5 randoms that would beat even shox in 1on1, let alone the rest of the pros. But well it's true that it shows that shox can still compete and that's not even debatable, if only he would stop trying to be an IGL so hard.

I understand your point about aim maps you are definitely right about that. I think shox being the IGL can work out really well if he can keep his form while being the IGL, but if he has to sacrifice some of his fragging ability to do it then it is not worth it.

Aim maps (especially aim lan cups) definetly prove aiming skillz. S1mple consistenly won them in ukraine and that was one of the reasons hr decided to try him out according to Dosia.

On that event s1mple won amateur lan cup, earned slot to play vs pros, then won it as well. Sure it doesn't mean he's very good aimer.. It was just one of the aim competition he won, there were many Friendly 1x1 dont prove much. Lan torneys with good prize money do.

it means he's good, it just doesn't mean his aim is better than some pros he beat, that's it. You know you can lose rounds in aim maps just because you didn't look at the right angle, or your opponent was slightly faster than you etc. a lot of factors that don't rely on skill or are just negligible

Concentration, reaction these factors show skill/natural ability. One game is not enough to judge. Final standing whre some player at the top and others at the bottom says it all. But series of such lan cups would be a better gauge.

With the 2nd place of the nations tournament, he made 5k$. With the rest of all tournaments, he made arround 8k$ on different teams. (when you divide each sum / 5)

Its only small mistake. Here, we talk about cs. People speak different Language. You're not here to judge me dude. You are on the wrong side. But , if only you trying to prove something, or just have such a need for it , then yes np enjoy. As you have something to say about this topic feel free to do it. If no , then give yourself peace because it does not even sounds serious.
