fnatic breeze past dignitas, top group

fnatic win their remaining two round robin Group D matches at ELEAGUE against dignitas (16-9 on Cobblestone and 16-6 on Dust2) and top the group thanks to a better head-to-head against FaZe.

The second set of matches on the second day of ELEAGUE's Group D was between fnatic and Dignitas with the Swedish team looking to secure two wins in order to tie FaZe at the top of the group while the Danish-Norwegian dignitas were looking to desperately secure their first win in the group.

The first map was Cobblestone and Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer continued displaying post-injury recovery form with a bizarre quad kill on fnatic's CT pistolround that saw dignitas' players unable to kill him on the A site of the map.

fnatic immediately jumped into tour de force mode and began to shut down subsequent dignitas takes, including on the sixth round where a triple kill from olofmeister allowed his partner-in-crime Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson to win a masterful one-versus-two.

olofmeister was a formidable force on Cobblestone

After a pause in the first half, dignitas were finally able to secure their first T-side round win on the ninth round via a force buy, with Jesper "TENZKI" Plougmann picking up two kills in an afterplant situation. The Danish-Norwegian team's economy was reset however on the next round thanks to a one-versus-two from Jesper "JW" Wecksell.

This fact did not faze Ruben "RUBINO" Villarroel, who secured some Tec-9 kills to win the force buy for dignitas, but fnatic continued to look relatively carefree, with JW buying a R8 revolver in the next round. Eventually, KRIMZ won another one-versus-two on the final round of the half, with fnatic finishing 11-4 up.

The Swedish superteam started to lose some steam coming into the second half as a disciplined dignitas pistolround suddenly turned the one-sided momentum of the match. A triple kill from JW as the fnatic player came down drop gave fnatic the first gunround however.

Despite dignitas managing to rally two more rounds on the second half which briefly dented fnatic's economy, it was the Swedish team who blithely plowed onwards and took the map 16-9 in the end.

Dust2 was the second map of play and the first pistolround saw dignitas patiently dismantle fnatic's players as they tried to come out mid at first and then failed to execute in general. After the anti-ecos however, a fourth round ace from Robin "flusha" Rönnquist got the ball rolling for fnatic and began a mostly one-sided half.

Up until the fourteenth round, fnatic looked completely unstoppable on their T-side and continued accumulating economy and rounds, but Norwegian RUBINO finally chipped in for his team with a double kill that slowed fnatic down and the next round RUBINO won a one-versus-three to end the half 10-5 for fnatic.

A number of clutches from RUBINO were not enough to save dignitas on Dust2

fnatic won the CT pistolround but a pistolround plant by dignitas allowed the team to buy after one save round and despite a fnatic retake that looked as if it were working, RUBINO again stepped up with a one-versus-three victory from long pit while defending the bomb.

fnatic promptly said "Not on our watch" and KRIMZ picked up two CZ75 kills to open the nineteenth round and the Swedes cleared out the rest of dignitas to reset their economy afterwards.

Deflated and unable to answer back, dignitas were shut down on the rest of their T-side and the map closed 16-6 in fnatic's favour.

MSL 12 kills over 2 maps. Beast Fnatic looked amazing, can't see anyone stopping them in that kind of form and I love the out and out aggression. Scary to play against. Dignitas/SK roster swapping incoming

hmm... let's think about this could it have anything to do with fnatic having over 2 times better round differential (fnatic's 41 to FaZe's 20)

I don't know, you tell me. I was assuming they'd decide the top teams of the group based on points from won and lost games.

Yeah I think they said something about it yesterday. :) When two teams are tied they will count the round difference when those two teams faced each other. If they would be tied in h2h round difference they would probably look at the overall round difference.

First h2h rd and then overall rd AFAIK (i am only 99% sure so don't quote me on this) I think they said something about this yesterday after the matches between fnatic and faze. So when fnatic won 16-0 the only way for faze to get top seed would be if fnatic dropped a map to dignitas.

True, and they both will have fairly easy semi finals anyways tbh. Dignitas looking weaker than ever and TSM shouldn't have any chance at all in a BO3.

indeed, although FaZe's games against TSM weren't convincing at all and I honestly think TSM had a really good chance on both maps but literally threw away guaranteed rounds with terrible positioning and unnecessary aggression/peeks so I think there's a slight chance of either team upsetting FaZe

I guess, they had one great showing against fnatic as well. But getting close and actually winning a map is very different tbh. Seems like the pressure gets too much for them when they actually have a shot at winning and they make those stupid plays.

How is that... even losing all the maps in the group stage they can still win the group... lawl TSM and Dignitas lost all maps against fnatic and faze but still can win the group... This is a bad format no doubt First of the group should be the winner and get a ticket to the finals playoffs without playing group playoffs All the others should play against each other in the group playoffs ((3rd vs 4th)vs(2nd)) to get 1 ticket for the last chance qualifier
